Coruscate CorruptionTopic: What Are You Currently Listening To? Every forum has one of these, so I though I might as well make one for here. Mecha ScorpionHahahahahahaha, Coruscate listens to shitty mainstream music. Just kidding. What I've Done is the only song of those that I like at all, and I don't like it that much. I wasn't listening to anything when I read this, but let me check my 25 Last Played songs on iTunes.Um... I rarely listen to individual songs, I listen to albums. Let's just condense it to 8 Metallica songs, 9 Dead Kennedys songs, 2 A Perfect Circle songs, and 6 Mastodon songs. I've listened to 168 songs in 2 weeks. | #8 Jun 29th 2007, 12:48pm
BriiiingI'm listening to Spellbound, by Siouxsie and The Banshees. Previously, I was listening to the Exodus record by Bob Marley and the Wailers, and even earlier, a couple tracks from Demon Days, the most recent album from the Gorillaz.| #9 Jun 29th 2007, 6:34pm . Edited Jun 29th 2007, 6:37pm

Mecha ScorpionHahahahaha, this is the best topic ever, if only because it holds people's tastes up for public ridicule. I thought Kelly Clarkson and Natasha Bedingfield were bad, but the Gorillaz? Then again I liked Feel Good Inc... Gorillaz are basically a better version of Gym Class Heroes anyway. Did anybody know that GCH are from my home city?I was just listening to some Chevelle. "To Return" is such a great song. | #10 Jun 29th 2007, 7:13pm
BriiiingThe Gorillaz are much better than GCH. Plus, they're animated. Who can resist? Okay, fine. If you like Feel Good Inc, what don't you like?Seriously. You have absolutely no variety in musical taste. | #11 Jun 29th 2007, 10:24pm . Edited Jun 29th 2007, 10:24pm

Mecha ScorpionThe Gorillaz are just so trendy. We've got the edgy anime angle here, the rap here, the alternative here... it's like Linkin Park redux, but even more commercial. Sure the songs themselves are decent, but the ideology behind them is sinister.I have plenty of variety in music taste. I have no BALANCE in that variety, but I do enjoy artists of many different genres. Of course, most of what I like is rock-metal-anything with a guitar, but I do appreciate other stuff as well. Maybe not quite as much as you, but still some. And to stay on-topic, I was just listening to Taproot, Faith No More, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold and Breaking Benjamin. | #12 Jun 29th 2007, 10:29pm
BriiiingOh yah? Do you really think it's worth shunning something that one likes just because everyone else likes it? Isn't that rather goth of you? And please explain this sinister ideology, I'm fascinated.By the way, as they were created by the same guy who did Tankgirl, it's hardly animé. | #13 Jun 29th 2007, 10:39pm
Mecha ScorpionYeah, well, they look very anime. I don't shun Gorillaz just because everybody likes them, I shun them because they were so obviously designed to make everybody like them. Look at, say, Green Day, everybody likes them and they weren't created simply for mass consumption. And I like Green Day.| #14 Jun 29th 2007, 10:50pm
BriiiingThey were totally not designed to make everybody like them, what ARE you talking about, man? Just because they're a freaking cartoon doesn't mean that they were designed for the masses. Besides, if you've even listened to the rest of the music, it's not exactly the most mainstream thing there is. It's pretty mainstream, but not enough to warrant that accusation.| #15 Jun 29th 2007, 10:56pm
Mecha ScorpionTheir music is immensely commercial. It's got a little techno-electronica here and there, some rap-sampled elements, poppy hooks, straightforward alternative singing... MTV circa 2004.| #16 Jun 29th 2007, 11:00pm
BriiiingO rly? I'm still totally unconvinced.| #17 Jun 29th 2007, 11:03pm

Mecha ScorpionYou don't have to be convinced, I'm just telling you what I think of them. You know who kicks unholy amounts of ass? Mastodon.| #18 Jun 29th 2007, 11:05pm

Mecha ScorpionWell, it's fucking true. Check them out. In the interest of preserving this topic, the last thing I listened to was the soundtrack of Ratatouille. That movie is awesome. | #20 Jun 30th 2007, 5:53pm

Rusty-KnivesMastodon aren't that great, but the drummer is awesome. The rest of the band is just a bunch of Metallica wannabes.Anyway, I am currently listening to Such Great Heights by The Postal Service. Yeah, it's emo, but not in the same way as The Used. | #21 Jun 30th 2007, 9:43pm
Mecha ScorpionFuck you, Rusty, you turncoat. Mastodon is amazing. They sound very little like Metallica. Name one typical 4/4 thrash riff that Mastodon uses. I can only think of maybe one song that has any riffs that sound like Metallica, and that song sounds different anyway.| #22 Jul 01st 2007, 8:35am

Rusty-KnivesHah, you think I'm talking music-wise? Fuck off. They have the same look as Metallica.| #23 Jul 01st 2007, 8:54am

Mecha ScorpionHow the fuck else do you judge a band but by their music? Just cause the guys in the band bear a resemblance to 'Tallica doesn't mean they're rip-offs.EDIT: And I'm listening to Iron Maiden. | #24 Jul 01st 2007, 9:51am . Edited Jul 01st 2007, 9:53am

Mecha ScorpionKsE, generic? Hell no. Their songs all sound similar but I can't think of any other bands they sound much like. Not that they don't share superficial elements of sound, but come on. And Violence Fetish is the worst Disturbed song ever made. The Game kicks ass, however.Anyway, I think it's funny how the regulars of this boards are all from different countries, yet we're all Caucasian. It's like the ultimate Friends complaint: "You don't have any multiculturality on your show!" "Yes we do! See, he's American, she's Scottish, he's New Zealandese, she's Canadian..." | #35 Jul 10th 2007, 7:32am

Mecha ScorpionThe Package- A Perfect CircleAlthough I listened to more Primus, Slipknot and Chevelle... Chevelle is my new Breaking Benjamin. They're not very good and they're pretty damn generic, but they're so sleek and well-produced that it's really easy to just listen to them without concentrating on it. It relieves the stress of trying to keep track of some complex and abrasive band like Mastodon. | #43 Jul 11th 2007, 4:13pm

Mecha ScorpionNice, Rusty. "You can't see California without Marlon Brando's EYES!" Old Slipknot is kind of retarded mallcore Hot Topic but it's kind of enjoyable anyway. They only got famous for being "the heaviest band EVAH" among mainstream kids, but their third album is fantastic.Anyway, in further Corey Taylor news...
