Topic: School Sports
Is it just me or are they a waste of time? (Y'know, like, athletic competitions and stuff. Oh, and rugby/football, etc)

It definitely isn't just you who thinks that, if that's what you're wondering.

Well I was hoping that I'd start a bigger discussion, but yeah, that was what I was thinking. Hmm

Not really. If you play a sport it's good for:

(a)getting out of having to take a P.E. class

(b)looks good for applications cuz colleges like 'well rounded' students

(c)physical activity instead of sitting on your butt at school and online all the time

(d)it's something that revs up most students and they can actually cheer about something related to school.

Dude, I jog for 2 hours every morning. I think I get enough excersise.

And I feel sorry for you guys; I'm homeschooled, so I don't have to worry about that sort of thing.

CC, that's true but I already do loads of cycling, running, and walking in the hills around here so I don't see the point in it.

I suppose they could benifit some people...

But I say, if you want excersise; get off your lazy butt and do something.

Which knocks off my third point, but not the others.

But meaning is relative. I personally prefer teams that are more academic/community service.

here i'll knock off your points, for me at least...

1. I dance full on three hoirs a day run alot and walk the dog every day.

2. I am so smart im already in tafe, and i am still in yr 11, and i live in aus so we dont have collages, lol.

3. i cheer for Naruto and stuff, why should i scream myself hjoarse for people who pick on me?

Are there other points???

you missed getting out of P.E.

I'd be in a school sport if there were any I liked. However the schools don't even consider the kind of sport I would participate in.

For some reason a student rifle team scares them.

awww, in australia that would be impossible!! such a shame they dont have a rifle team, but there is other things... boxing maybe? id love to be able to hit someone and not worry about getting in trouble

the closest thing at our school is wrestling, but I respect myself to much to wear one of the leotards (sp?) that they use as uniforms. Maybe i'll take up fencing on the side.

I was involved in Karate until the instructer quit. It was cool. I like to watch figure skateing. But, other than that, I hate sports.

Wish I could get involved into a sport like Karate. I don't have the time though.

What part of 'I don't have the time' did you not get?

Thank you, Selenia. You filled in the snappy, oh so bitchy remark were I was too lazy to.

Yeah, I'll call you Selenia now I guess.

Meh, I couldn't resist. It was one of those 'duh' moments I just can't seem to pass up.

You know what? 'Rose' is better than 'Roseydarka', which is what some stalker dude has taken to calling me. -_-

Hah, even I wouldn't be lame enough to call you that. Eh, well.

Hopefully I'm going to convince Mecha to come back. I think he's done with the forum here for good.

Oh yeah. Nearly forgot about him. How long has it been since he's posted? *Checks*

Wow. It's been a long time.

Too long, in fact. He was easy to troll but his replies were awesome.

Well this seems to be going nowhere.

a) Karate is not a sport

b) You know they have a word for people who are homeschooled in the US... well not a word really, more like a phrase. You know how on a CD a band will have like some good songs and then bad songs that are "filler?" Well home schooled people are basically the filler in colonies for the mentally retarded. There aren't usually enough retarded people to justify the creation of a whole colony so they just kind of recruit the stupidest non-retarded members of the population and make them live there with their natural brethren.

c) School sports = meh I could care less gym isn't that bad

I would just like to say that Karate is indeed a sport as most versions of it can't actually be used for self defense. That shit is showy, nothing else.

#26 Jul 17th, 4:23pm
Mecha Scorpion

I took karate and it was pretty useful... it's fairly fine for self-defense purposes

I'd like to see you up against a well trained grappler.

Wouldn't we all?

I'm going to be gone for a week. I know you will all miss me terribly, but I'm sure you can manage.

#29 Jul 18th, 12:16pm
Mecha Scorpion

Well I wasn't well trained in karate... grappling sounds gay

#30 Jul 18th, 2:16pm

Yeah, but it works and is known to work well.

Okay, new here but I noticed this topic and I have a few things to say:

To me school sports are a waste of time and money and attention. People pay more attention to them than to the school's actual preformance and achedemic education. In other countries if you want to play a sport, you have to do it via some communtiy or private orginazation. I am glad my school didn't have sports. We focused on achedmics and learning a trade that can be applied to real life skills. And I am proud of that. If I had gone to the regualr high school instead of mine I would be the one ruining the fun and yelling "Go the other guys!" at the pep rallies and such.
