Topic: Hiya!
The name is Scorch and Vin/Tif is one of the three pairings I adore from FFVII. I'm currently writing Wild Night and a few others. I'm not sure if I joined this forum ages ago cus I had a nasty accident which gave me with a nasty bang on the head which left me with selective amnesia. Enough of that.

I adore Vin/Tifa! I love Vin/Tifa! There isn't enough Vin/Tifa!

Anyhoo, it's nice to be back and all that jazz. You can bet your ass I'll be dishing out challenges.

Many Hugs and Much Love,

S xxxx

welcome; this forum's currently dead, but welcome anyhow. I think the whole pairing is dead, actually. I've been checking VxT nearly every day for the past few months and maybe two worthwhile stories have updated in recent weeks. The fascination for the couple is wearing off for most authors, much like the best members of Ender's command burning out in the final bugger battle. (Fellow sci-fi fans will recognize this as an allusion to Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.)

The profanity filter is almost as ineffective as the TOS.

I have not been a member of this site for as long as you have, Erse, but I feel as if I am a veteran of a war. (Perhaps the war on illiteracy? I fear it's one we're losing - many of the best and brightest authors have given up on FF.net. I must say I cannot blame them, but I mourn their loss all the same.)

it's a losing battle, i'm afraid. for every one good author there are plenty more lousy ones. it almost seems as if the majority of veteran authors are getting tired of fanfiction altogether (or perhaps have moved on to other subjects?). i used to think that if we helped the poorer writers, they'd improve. sadly, most of those kids just become defensive and belligerent when you try.

it's not just this site, either. i'd also say that it's time to move onto better fanfiction sites, but then those sites get clogged and invaded by the horrible writers.

[jesus. i remember when i'd read some wonderful FF4 fanfiction here, years ago. most of those writers disappeared and never returned. how depressing.]

The profanity filter is almost as ineffective as the TOS.

off topic, but an interesting side note about their TOS: did you know that some guy plagiarized a good deal of stories and yet he still hasn't had any of them removed? i emailed the site about it plenty of times--and i was actually pretty mellow about it. i did their job for them, practically. i hunted down all of the original authors and their works and even supplied links to both the original fanfictions and the plagiarized works (not to mention a link to the kid's penname and the pennames of all the people he copied from...). nothing ever came of it. i think those plagiarized stories are still up. great job, fanfiction.net. update the search engine with useless crap for the umpteenth time? check. ban plagiarizers? plagiarizers? what plagiarizers?

I read through their TOS and the "10. DOMESTIC COPYRIGHTS" portion and have done exactly what it says one should do when someone else copies stories on the site. yet, nothing has come of it. i particularly like this: "FanFiction.Net respects the intellectual property of others, and we ask our users to do the same." yeah. wonderful job, fanfiction.net.

that's why i really don't want to post anything here anymore. they don't seem to give a damn about their users.

that's why i really don't want to post anything here anymore. they don't seem to give a damn about their users. It's a sellout, really. We placed faith in this site and submitted stories with the understanding that we would retain the basic rights of authorship. These conditions have been blatantly disregarded time and time again, and will most likely continue to do so until FF.net finally degenerates into a subhuman existence.

Personally, I would like to see a site moderated by a dedicated and nitpicky team of erudite authors. True, the community would be smaller and the number of submitted works would decrease proportionally, but I seek quality not quantity, and would be willing to suffer the minor drawbacks. There would be chatspeak bans (the violators of which would be deleted in a timely and efficient manner), and only tales with acceptable grammar and formatting would be eligible for submission.

Alas, it is little more than a silly dream meant only for perfect worlds.

well, i know of a few places, if you're interested. there is one fairly nice moderated archive that's still around: http://www.lunaescence.com/

and, of course, icybrian (albeit, a bit slower): http://icybrian.com/fanfiction; chat-speak and script format free.

also, there's a great little livejournal community: http://community.livejournal.com/ff_fanlisting. it's an archive for people who write/draw/create fanworks for any final fantasy game. you should join; it needs more members. it also lets you easily find your favorite authors/artists/whatever and where they post their fanworks (and it could allow your own fans to track where you post, too). if you're interested, you can join here: http://community.livejournal.com/ff_fanlisting/profile. you don't need a livejournal account to join, either.

i'd make my own archive, but i don't have the patience nor the skill to create it. heh.

Um... hmm... well... I'm in a Web Design class right now... and since I'm going to have a lot of free time to make new sites and stuff, and I have to have a final project anyway...

Does anyone want to work with me to make a Final Fantasy Fan Fiction site? Or something? We could call it FFFF.net XD After it gets started, we could expand it to cover more games, then all the other categories ^^ If anyone wants, I could probably get some basic layout stuff worked out and posted on Geocities or something... And we could all submit things, advertise, handpick the stories we'd like to post... just to make sure they weren't all n00bish with bad grammer and all...

So... what does everyone think?

hm? sounds like a great idea, but i'm afraid that i wouldn't be much help. like i said, i lack the patience for that sort of thing (and at the moment i lack the time). but please don't let that stop you--if you have an idea, run with it.

when i get back into the swing of things, i'll see if i can help by reading stuff (or whatever it is that fanfiction mods do).
