ArcBusTopic: DoC Spoilers - Vincent's Relationship With Lucrecia Okay, I've just been watching some memoirs of Vincent - The past in Nibelheim. I can tell you that before the events in Nibelheim Lucrecia was ALREADY married to Hojo. Vincent was sent to Nibelheim as a Turk to guard the Scientist group there (Gast, Hojo and Lucrecia). When he arrived he went to the Shinra mansion and met Lucrecia in there. Vincent's trail of thoughts says 'She is so beautiful that I forgot she was married to someone else'. However, after that there is a moment between them in the woods where Lucrecia asks him if he wants a drink and whips out a bottle of wine from nowhere (quite amusing, actually!)When Vincent is later in a test tube being experimented on, Lucrecia is telling him that she is sorry things ended that way and that she is glad he's still alive. Hojo, who by the way has the most ridiculous voice actor and manic laugh EVER, asks her if she loves him, and says 'You're my wife but you've been with him all the time'. Instantly, Lucrecia says no. What had happened was Vincent was arguing with Hojo saying 'Why experiments on humans? She's your wife, why do you want to do this to her?' Lucrecia walks in and tells him that it's okay. Hojo says 'As long as she agrees and she is my wife I can do whatever I want to her'... ... Eeeps... O.o Then he asks Vincent why he cares so much for her, and asks him if he has a relationship with her. Vincent reluctantly says 'No'. Then Lucrecia breaks out that she's pregnant and the experiment will be done on the unborn baby (Sephiroth). She says that Vincent can't stop the experiment. And then in the basement I think Vincent argues AGAIN with Hojo, and then gets shot. Lucrecia walks in on Hojo laughing like a maniac with Vincent lying on the floor, pretty much dying. She yells 'What have you done!?' And then, again, in a very stupid and hilarious way, Hojo laughs like a complete and utter maniac. After which, Vincent's thoughts say that she looked after him day after day without caring for herself. Lucrecia is back at the test tube, telling Vincent that she will get him out, no matter the costs. But then he changes into Chaos, and she screams in terror 'GET OFF ME! GET OFF ME!'. Then she stops and sees something glowing on the floor - Materia, and Vincent turns back to normal. Then it is stated that Chaos was a monster born from Hojo's insanity, and that he never thought such a thing would exist. After that, the day comes when Lucreica and Sephiroth are exprimented on. Sephiroth was born not much later and Lucrecia then disappeared. To summarise: Vincent was experimented on by Hojo, and turned into a creature he never imagined would exist. He should have died, but Lucrecia was the only one who felt guilt for him, and tried to save his life by putting Chaos inside him with G Substance. However, the materia, which is 'The Ancient Materia', quite possibly Aeris's Holy Materia, cause Chaos to be more controllable. Vincent then fell into his sleep. Not much more on it. This was to explain some of the questions that have been floating around about DoC. Any comments, people? | #1 Aug 20th 2006, 10:46am

motchiWhat is this Ancient Materia attached to? A weapon? |
ArcBusNo, it just appeared randomly. It fell to the floor next to Lucrecia. I didn't really understand that part much. |
motchiAnd I suppose we never find out what weapon he attaches it to. Nice, Square. Way to love the plot holes. *claps sarcastically* |
ArcBusI don't think it was attached at all, I think it was created then through the substances in the lab. Gast may have found it and given it to Ifalna who gave it to Aeris, or something like that. I dunno. I'll have to go watch it again. |
motchiWhat the hell were they doing with it? I assumed Vincent ended up with it since Chaos wasn't constantly ripping everyone to shreds.I've about had it with this game and its convoluted plot. |
ArcBusChaos was in the test tube. He couldn't hurt anyone. I very much doubt he could have gotten out of it. And Lucrecia was the only one there with him. |
ArcBusOh, damn, I'm confused too, now! I'm not gonna buy DoC after all... O.o |
motchiI don't think Square can be trusted to set foot anywhere near a decent plot. |
ArcBusUnless it's one of the original FF series. I've seen an FFXIII trailer. It looks pretty good. I sure hope they don't wreck that.| #10 Aug 25th 2006, 12:18pm

RendArcBus.....your original post is so flawed in so many placed I don't know where to begin.Alright let me start the corrections, Hojo was NEVER married to Lucrecia, I have the script right in front of me and no where does it ever make a mention of of they ever being married, you want proof: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/dirge_of_cerberus_script.txt As for vincent's and Lucrecia's relationship let me start everything from the beginning. Vincent was only there to serve as Lucrecia's bodyguard not Gast's or Hojo's. Now in the beginning Lucrecia was an assistant to Grimore Valentine, Vincent's father, Lucrecia has her thesis about Omega and chaos from what she read from Ancient tablets, but it was widely rebuked, now Grimore found the place where Chaos would awaken, and showed Lucrecia the place, Lucreica now get's all excited and started showing her enthusiam, but there's an accident with the stagnant mako and Grimore dies protecting her. Lucrecia feels responsable for his death. Vincent is sent by Shin-ra to become Lucrecia's bodyguard when he tells her his name she quickly becomes stunned asking why they would send his son. Lucreica tries to keep her distance from him but it doesn help they both spend thime together and vincent soon falls for her. But eventually vincent finds something about his father in her records. Lucrecia walks in on him, she gasps, she didn't want him to find out about it, So thinking he now blames her for his father's death she runs to Hojo, but it's later revealed that Vincent never blamed her and as long as she was happy that was all that mattered, so he left her with Hojo, but later Lucrecia get's pregnant by hojo, Vincent finds out and also finds out the plan on experimenting on the unborn child, he confronts Hojo and Lucrecia, he doesn't stop her but ask her if it what she truly wants, she stubbornly replies yes, but actually she still unsure, she just wants to push Vincent away for his own good. The experiment is carried out, Vincent confronts Hojo by himself this time, and is shot, Lucrecia finds him, she starts weeping apparently she's unsure of her feelings. Hojo uses vincent for his experiments but gives it up, Lucrecia then takes Vincent's body, in an attempt to keep him alive and his body from decomposing (remember he was shot by Hojo and presumably killed), she puts him in the tank with the stagnant mako, and it fuses into his body, giving birth to Chaos, Omega's herald. but Vincent cannot control Chaos and ocassionaly has his fits, so Lucrecia returned to the cave where her and Grimore found Chaos, it is there she finds the protomateria, the key to controlling Chaos presumably made by stagnant mako also. She puts it into his body and Chaos is sealed within him. Now for Lucrecia she is pregnant with Seph but Jenova is also changing her body, she gave brith to her son but Hojo snapped him away and the Jenova substance changed her, while vincent is in the tube during a flashback, there's a scence where's she pleading to see Seph but Hojo denies. Lucrecia is exhaused and is on the verge of giving up, it's only her wish to keep vincent alive that's she able to keep going, so after Vincent is sucessfully fused with Chaos. Lucrecia tries to give up, the Jenova substance changed her body and no longer allows her to die, that's why she's encaced in crystal in DoC, she sealed herself away. As for teh materia it's not Aerith's holy materia, Aerith had that her whole life and her mother before that, and even after it's at the bottom of a pool where it fell in the game, but Vincent clearly has his protomateria in his chest in DoC. The protomateria was created for the specific purpose of controlling Chaos, it's not Aerith's materia, I don't know where you that idea from. There the whole story, thee's a bit more scenes with Vince and Lu but nothing major. If you have any questions you wish to ask, you can ask here or e-mail me. And that like I provided with the script, is proof of everything I summoned up here. | #11 Oct 26th 2006, 6:19pm

Rendyeah you're right they were married, my bad, I kinda got mixed up between Vince and Hojo. For some odd reason I often confuse both characters, I can only remember Vince from his red cape.| #13 Oct 26th 2006, 11:33pm

KysicI sorry to say that Lucrecia and Hojo weren't married before Vincent started bodyguarding them. First off, in DOC there's a scene where Lucrecia leaves Vincent for Hojo (the backround if only black). Hojo says, "So you finally choose me then?" It may not be exactly what he said, but it's close enough. If they were already married, why would Hojo say finally? She had to of been involved with Vincent for a while. Second, Vincent was pretty upset about Lucrecia hugging Hojo even if he let her go. If they were already married, I doubt Vincent would of been so emotional over the whole thing. He would of seen it coming if they were married. Just because he let her go on his own will doesn't mean he can't be at least a little sad over the whole thing. There's nothing in DOC that says they were already married. I think the company would of mentioned someting about them already being married in a interview or something. I don't know how to state the facts on this one becaues it's a tricky subject, but I know they weren't already married. I'm just trying to point out a few things. I'm trying not to sound mean about it. | #19 Jul 28th 2007, 11:36am

motchiOnce more, with feeling:The Ultimania Omega guide, which is the closest thing FF7 has to the Bible, confirms that they were married. Anything else, unless backed up by canon sources, is conjecture and speculation, not fact. | #20 Jul 28th 2007, 11:50am

KysicAre you guys sure it states they were married before Vincent came along and not after his arrival? I know they got married at some point but I'm not sure if they got married before it all started with Vincent bodyguarding her (I can't spell it). I remember reading the omega guide somewhere, but I don't remember it stating Lucrecia and Hojo were married before the whole love triangle thing happened. For all we know DOC could of changed a few things in the time line. Take Crisis Core for example. Instead of Cloud throwing Sephiroth into the life stream, Sephirothed jumped in their himself. Unless you don't consider DOC canon, it doesn't make sense how they can be married before it all happened. In my opinon, all spinoffs are canon. If a spinoff changes how something happened, I go along with it. It seems you guys don't consider DOC canon. I'm fine with that. Maybe I should of thought about that before replying to a statement. It doesn't make sense in DOC how Lucrecia can be around Vincent then suddenly push him away to be with Hojo if she was already married. Yes, I know she pushed him away after something happened in DOC (I don't wanna spoil anything). There are fans who don't go with spinoffs. They stick to the orginal game. I guess you guys can think what you want about it. It depends on what you consider canon, but the company probably didn't expect to add some things in DOC back when they made the guide. | #21 Jul 28th 2007, 12:07pm

VinCon01The UOG doesn't say that they were married before Vincent's arrival. Simply that they were, in fact, married. Meaning that based on evidence within the games, it's highly unlikely they were married before Vincent got there. The 10th Anniversary UOG's timeline even says that Vincent proposed to her before her rejection. Not likely if she was already married to Hojo. |
KysicVin, thank you for making that post. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks there's no official proof of them already being married before Vincent started bodyguarding them.About Vincent proposing to Lucrecia, I sort of already of half knew that. There has been heavy debates whether he was proposing to her or grabbing her hand and asking about his father (you'll see him doing this in DOC), so I couldn't decide which he was doing. Do you know where I can find The 10th Anniversary UOG? | #23 Jan 20th, 6:19pm . Edited Jan 20th, 6:25pm

The Jack of SpadesAccording to Tetsuya Nomura, who directed Advent Children, that movie was a representation of one of the many possibilities of FFVII's ending. In other words, it's a canon, not the canon. Nomura likely made this distinction to avoid offending fans like myself who are opposed to sequels, prequels and the like. And if AC isn't the canon, then neither is Dirge of Cerberus, or any other FFVII spinoff. That said, you may abide by their canon, or you may choose to ignore it. Unlike, say, FFX-2, one can make the argument of ignoring AC, DoC, and etc. So the question of Hojo and Lucrecia being married has multiple answers. (a) It is answered in the original FFVII Ultimania Omega if, like me, you disregard all FFVII spinoffs, or (b) It is answered in such FFVII spinoffs as Dirge of Cerberus, if you abide by such spinoffs. We all would do well to remember that originally, Square Enix had no intention of making sequels to their games. Whenever a creator suddenly decides to add storyline to one that was previously considered complete unto itself, that creator naturally finds that they must make changes involving the original storyline's canon, especially if the new storyline dredges up unclear elements of an old character's past. Take George Lucas' second Star Wars trilogy as an example. Characters like Qui-Gon Jinn (my favorite movie character, hehe) and concepts like the whole midichlorian thing did not exist in the first trilogy, but were added in the second. Perhaps in the future, when we discuss any aspect of FFVII and/or its spinoffs, we should label the threads as "FFVII only" or "DoC only" or something like that? Does that sound like a good idea? Otherwise, all discussions will be moot, especially those involving such a mysterious character as Vincent, whose ambiguous history will become more and more defined as the spinoffs continue. For the record, even though I'm against all these add-ons, I do like hearing what goes on in them, so thanks to everyone who posts in that regard! (Incidentally, if Hojo and Lucrecia were married, why would Vincent bother to propose to Lucrecia? Wouldn't he already know she was spoken for?) | #24 Jan 26th, 7:47pm . Edited Jan 26th, 7:50pm

VinCon01And where/when did Nomura say this? |
The Jack of SpadesWhen: Before AC was released in the US, very early in the flow of news, on I believe.Where: AdventChildren.Net. I don't have the specific URL, but it's among the interviews/articles they have regarding Nomura and the making of AC. I believe my sister (that is, Erse) found it originally. I regret not having the URL offhand, but it's definitely on that website. Nomura was trying to ease a situation that was destined to be very polarizing. Of course, that's an impossibility, given the attitudes of a lot of fans. For some reason, FFVII attracted a very hostile group of people. Topics like where the Promised Land is, what the ending of the game meant, and even such frivolous things as Cloud's love triangle get unusually heated debates. Many people don't just disagree; they take the heads off anyone who dares to inject another viewpoint. I've seen more hostility and general rudeness in this fandom than in any other FF fandom I work with. It wouldn't surprise me if there are plenty of arguments out there between the people who love the spinoffs and people who don't. But here is not the place for that. Edit: Um, I just realized how off-topic this is getting...or rather was from the start. And me being guilty of furthering it, no less. (I'm setting a bad example for you guys. :P) Hence its lockage. | #26 Jan 26th, 8:39pm . Edited Jan 26th, 9:07pm
