I'm looking for everyone's opinions on dantes new look, I don't think it's half bad. When I saw it in GameInformer all i wanted to do was get the series to play the game, I'm a n00b to DMC so I cant wait to get the game and write some FF for it just because THE LOOK is so amazing. But i've been getting the impression that alot of fans are actually dissapointed in it.

So anyone got any tips to give me--certain history only hardcore fans would know?

Actually, yes. I haven't been a fan of the series long but it was before the trailer for the reboot, I fell hard for this series after I started watching my best friend playing Devil May Cry 4. I myself have played DMC3 (multiple times *cough*) and the beginning of DMC(It's freaking hard!) So I consider myself a fan of the series, I have like 10 stories here and everything and I try to keep up with what's going on.

Moving on to your actual question ^_^; There are certain things about the reboot (Well, almost everything actually) that make the older fans go crazy. Mostly it's the character design, if they just wanted to put Dante in the background they have created I don't think people would throw such a fit. Now, a few things I've read and considered about the new design is Dante's hair for starters. I know there's a supposedly a white tuft in the back, but whatever. In Japan Dante's hair was made white to show that he's supernatural, his hair is white because he has demon blood running through his veins (Think Inyuyasha. He has white hair because he's a demon). Next is the eyes, I have no idea why they would choose to make his eyes red when both Eva and Sparda had blue-just doesn't really make sense, and finally the red coat-his coat I know is kind of red but it's not bright like it's suppose to be. Dante wears red in the series to symbolize the blood spilled by his mother on the night she was killed. Also, in Japan red is the traditional color for a hero. So that's me nitpicking the character design.

For a more in depth and concrete explanation of why people are freaking out over the reboot go here: http://www.destructoid.com/so-i-ve-let-the-dmc-reveal-sink-in--185315.phtml

He basically explains that they have changed the character, storyline, and setting...so what's left that's actually Devil May Cry? Short answer: nothing-except the names, which they are stamping on what is basically a new IP and trying to cash in on Dante and the title of Devil May Cry.

Hopefully this helps you better understand us older fans and know we're upset because DMC is a franchise we love and this new game has nothing to do with DMC, passing it off as a DMC game is just wrong. If you still don't understand, that's okay, my roommate has asked me to explain a few times, but every time I do, she just rolls her eyes and asks what the big deal is.

So it's like what every Naruto fan would feel if they completely messed with the series. and How they made the Full-metal Alchemist Manga into an Anime~which wasn't bad but it screwed with some heads at first.

I suppose it's like messing with any big game or TV series or whatever that has a big following and all of a sudden the writers or developers just decide to change EVERYTHING and call it the same game/show. It just doesn't seem like it's going to work. I'm sure 'DmC' will be a good game, I just don't know whether or not it will be a good Devil May Cry game.

I mean, I'm not a huge fan of his black hair and red eyes, but other than that, Dante looks.....skinny. XP

Is skinny good or bad? 0.o

Really? I kinda liked him in 4 where he was all muscly and handsome XD but I guess that is a matter totally of opinion.

HI!!! I'm new here and I want in on the convo!

*Ahem* Sorry but that! I agree with bitbyboth. I loved him in part 1,2&3 but even more in 4!His new look just doesnt sit right with me. The black hair, bursied up and stuff...and he's so pale and skinny!

bitbyboth

YAY! someone agrees with me XD I really do like him the best in 4, but he looks good in 3 and 1 and I like his clothes in 2, but with any of them at least you can tell that it IS Dante unlike the new one where everyone thought he was a new character at first.

7/28/2011 #11
PimpNinjaVannah

I thought he was...But when I continued reading in the gameinfomer they said it was Dante.I got so upset and called six of my friend and complained! I also agree about his clothes in part 2 and yeah he looks awesome in part 4! =)

OMG, open-minded people!!!!!

I don't care how Dante looks like, as long as he's in the game, then that's fine with me. I'm tired of people saying, "Oh, that's not Dante! He doesn't have white hair, or his blue eyes, and his clothes are ugly." Honestly they need to shut up. Either way, it's still him.

PimpNinjaVannah

It's not that we'er not opened minded. Personally I dont give a crap about how he looks as long as I get to continue the DMC series. But I'd pefer him as old Dante.

Chill out ZoMg1010, it's not just that his appearance has changed-that is part of it of course but not all-it's the fact it doesn't even SEEM to be Dante anymore.

I would guess that about 99% of people who saw the trailer for the reboot never thought that person was Dante the first time they saw it. As for why I don't believe it to be our Dante anymore the playful attitude is totally gone, that is a HUGE part of Dante's character, he barely even cracked a smirk in any of the trailers so far, that's one of the things that makes him the Son of Sparda in my opinion. Secondly, he smokes, which Dante is just not suppose to do, even his original creator said that Dante would think that he's too cool to smoke.

Believe me, I've been all over the internet I've read tons of blogs, forums and articles on this 'reboot' and it's just not Dante in my opinion. Don't think I'm personally attacking you-because I'm certainly not, I'm just trying to make a valid point on my own behalf as to why I don't like the changes. I'd be more than willing to debate points with you as long as we can act in a civilized manner and not just start calling each other nasty names XD If you'd rather not, that's fine too. I'm just saying. I hate the changes and I don't think that this will be a very good DMC game, if you're looking forward to it, then by all means go out and buy it and have fun, no one is going to stop you :3

ZoMg1010

@ bitbyboth: No, I understand those reasons, but apparently the reboot is actually Dante's past (at least I think so). I mean, it's obvious that he's awfully young, and young people do some stupid things, like smoking. Some are even brooding **, like "new" Dante. I mean, I won't blame him; he's homeless, lost his father, mother, and brother (at least he thought he did). I wouldn't blame anyone if they become some sociopath jerk.

By the way, I have a theory; I don't really think Dante is actually Dante.

8/02/2011 #17
PimpNinjaVannah

How so?

8/02/2011 #18
bitbyboth

Yes, I know that the reboot has been called also a prequel or a re-imagining, the developers won't really give a straight answer as to what this really IS, so I don't feel like it's easy to gauge the storyline or what it's about that way. I personally don't think that he looks THAT young I wouldn't believe he was younger than the one in DMC3 unless we've been told so. I'm honestly just kind of over the whole 'teenage angst, broody' bull that dominates literature, movies and lots of video games, that's what I originally liked about Dante was his unusual flair, so it's disappointing to me to see this new look.

I mean, I do understand the idea of him losing his family and being homeless would be hard but...I'm just not sure if we really need to see this part of his life, DMC3 was a good prequel, it explained what we need to know so...I dunno, like I said, this whole thing just isn't my style :(

I would love to hear your theory though on why you think that Dante isn't actually Dante.

8/02/2011 #19
ZoMg1010

Well, we all that during the first trailer, Dante was in a mental ward. Doesn't that seem a bit odd? Also, the guy who was interviewing him kept on asking his name, either because he wouldn't answer or "Dante" just didn't know. You see, I think "Dante" is actually Vergil. The past we know most about is Dante's, we never learned much about Vergil (I don't remember.....long time since I played the series). Of course, that still leaves the weapons used in the trialer. The guns that "Dante" used may not actually be Ivory and Ebony, don't they seem different to you? Vergil COULD have thought that he was Dante, cause maybe the death of his younger was a little too much to bear. I know that sounds kinda stupid, but I just can't help but think that "Dante" is Vergil. Hey, when the game comes and it proves that I'm wrong, you can all give me a virtual slap on the hand. ^_^

And if something I said doesn't make sense, please tell me so I can explain more clearly.

Well, I do think that Capcom has come out and said that it really is Dante in the trailer (though I prefer to call him Dino or Donte) though it's an interesting thought I don't even think that the guys at Ninja Theory know who Vergil is. When they were asked if Dante would see any of his old enemies in the new game they kind of got this blank look on their faces because I don't think they even know who any of his old enemies are...which seems sad. :( I agree that Ebony and Ivory definitely seem off, but that's because they were so slow, and I think in the game they're suppose to 'overheat' which to me says that they really aren't Ebony and Ivory, because Art Warks made those guns for Dante so they wouldn't overheat (if you go by the novel). Mental ward definitely seems odd too. I have no clue how they captured him or anything, but apparently there is a rap sheet in the back of one of the shots in the first trailer that says he's in for vandalism. So I wonder what he did exactly.

i don't particularly care for the new dante's look, but i will play the game just to see what it is all about. i personally think they should have continued with either nero opening a branch of DMC or go to when Vergil was defeated in DMC1 and see what 'really'happened to him. in my opinion, if yamato was fixed then that means vergil must be alive out there somewhere and wants to reclaim it otherwise i don't think it would have worked, even is nero is vergil's son. and if so, then not that well.

wow i was kinda ranting. as ofr dante's looks i like 4 and 1, would like to fuse them somehow. 2 was ok, but didn't care for hte collar being so high. 3 to me is classic dante (that could be b/c i discovered 3 first then found the others.) this new one i watched and my first thought, who the f*** is this? Dante?! No freakin' way!! but alas, it's dante.

slight problem with you thinking vergil is dante, vergil hates guns. just f.y.i. to him they are not the weapons of a warrior.

I would like to see some more of Nero as well. In my personal opinion I think that the fact that Yamato was broken in the first place is not a good indication of Vergil's well being as I saw somewhere that Rebellion and Yamato are the incarnation of Dante and Vergil's souls respectively.

I know I won't be buying this game though, after all the junk Ninja Theory has said about fans and about the old games...I just can't support them. I don't care if the game is great or it bombs, I know I won't buy it.

Also, you're definitely right about Vergil not liking guns. He doesn't think they're an honorable weapon, though he does borrow Ebony in DMC3 :3 That's only for a moment. He definitely has a samurai mentality. Which I think is interesting considering the link of Yamato between Nero and Vergil...Vergil thinks guns are dishonorable and Nero likes them enough that he made Blue Rose and is the only member of the Order of the Sword who uses one...sorry if I ramble, I've just realized this myself XD

3/15/2012 #23
megagirlonline21

totally understandable. it jsut sux that they killed one of the most enigmatic characters in the game and just about everyone loves him as much or more than both dante and nero. i'm a vergil girl (kinda obvious, n/m) and i'm like having withdrawals because i play 3 so much and now it's like he's never coming back. i say we get a bunch og game designers and make our own DMC series with what we think should actually happen. and we already have three angles to go off of. Vergil. Nero. Sparda&Eva. BOOM. THAT'S 3 new games right there. it's kinda esasy to ramble, srry XD

3/16/2012 #24

No, I get what you mean. :3 I personally think that a Sparda and Eva game would be freaking awesome!

3/16/2012 #25

totally and we finally get to see what kind of person Eva was and what she looked like, aside from the pic in 1 and trish's appearance.

I played the series and I will only say this; the story is interesting and has a lot of potential. I hate the new look. It looks terrible. And I am not losing my head being ** off at the new look for one reason: it is a reboot and no connection to the real original story. So I am satifised about that. I also think the series wouldn't need a reboot if they planned it out correctly, like Devil May Cry 2 could have been way better and followed into a new game to continue the series. Devil May Cry 3 I'm pefectly fine with, along with Devil May Cry 1 and Devil May Cry 4. They just screwed up with DMC2. And the manga I only consider certain parts of the manga(s) canon. Anyway, those are my opinions, and sorry if U got a bit off topic.

Venna Conqueso-Macarte
Oh and further explain why I feel I hate the new look, it's not sexy. In fact, not even his weapon is sexy or not even (spoilers from trailers) new Vergil. He basically is an epic disappointment compared to how the original Dante was designed. Even DMC2 was a somewhat tolerated game because of Dante's look, (they screwed up his personality) but that is just my personal opinion put I. The nicest way possible.
