lasweetieTopic: Trash Can or Bin?
Hello again! So I have another question and now it's about your garbage receptacles over there in G B. What do you call a can that you put trash in that is collected by a garbageman? Thanks in advance! |

vulturesDustbin or wheelie bin. So called because they have wheels. They're basically rectangular and made of some sort of plastic, different colours depending on what you put in them. Brown is garden waste, I think some places get small orange bins specifically for kitchen waste. Round my way general waste wheelie bins are usually dark green. I thought I'd mention that as all 'trash cans' I've seen on telly seem to be cylandrical and made of metal. Some places don't have bins at all - they just have to put their rubbish out in bags. 'Bin' is normally used to mean a bin inside the house. The ones that get collected by garbagemen (we usually call them dustbinmen or just 'binmen') are dustbins or wheeliebins. Also I've never met anyone here who uses the words trash or garbage. I think 'rubbish' is much more commonly used. |

lasweetieSo is a cylindrical, metal can a dustbin? Or is that just not even a thing? Thanks for the answers, they really help! |

MallorysgirlWhere i live in Britain our dustbin's are black plastic rectangles on wheels. They take the general waste. We also have a green dustbin that collects the garden waste. We also have three blue plastic boxes that has the recycling in, one for tins and bottles, one for paper and one for cardboard and they are collected every two weeks. Hope that helps:) |

lasweetieOh wow, that's very complicated. Here we just have a big green can for all of our trash and a blue one for our recycle. Our garden waste is picked up every once in a blue moon. Thanks for the help! |
