I don't really mind yaoi/yuri couples, but I have a hard time seeing the m/m pairings in FFXII working out. On the other hand, mmm... I don't think there's much chance there either, but maybe its possible. It's okay to write them for fun, but to make a serious pairing would probably take a lot of work in a fairly lengthy fic.

Het couples that just don't work for me:

Ashe x Larsa/Al Cid - Some people write these in fics as political pairings, and outside of a mostly superficial relationship, I can't see either of them actually working. I mean, Al-Cid's interesting... but I kind of got this smarmy feeling from him, and I think Ashe didn't 'fall' for his little show either. So Al Cid/Ashe fics really bother me since I don't imagine a terribly happy relationship. Larsa... well, maybe in 10 years he'll grow and change enough, not anytime soon though.

Fran x Vaan/Larsa ~ Just not going to happen without a LOT of development.

Penelo x ... mmm. Somehow, I can imagine most of the pairings being possible, if not ideal or all that perfect.

i think Vayne and ANYONE (especially Larsa) is just weird. as is Fran and Vaan...or Vaan and anyone.

Basch i actually quite like with Fran or Penelo.

how about dr Cid and Larsa?? anyone see that happening??

Even eight years down the line, if Larsa was 18 and fully grown, Cid would be in his 60's. Weird.

Some of it may be funny but it can get REALLY annoying after awhile, take KH for example YES Sora/Riku ha ha ha we get it YES Axel/ Roxas can you think of something else?

But my least fave paring would have to be Vann x Ashe.

I know this is rather vague but I'll read pretty much anything assuming it's well-written. I don't discriminate between yaoi/yuri pairings either. If the author's talented enough to make it work without the characters appearing OOC then hey, I'm willing.

@ TheAngel'sLover: I don't have a problem with KH yaoi per say, but it is irritating that there's a serious lack of het fics in that section. Variety is the spice of life. I wish more talented authors would tackle some unconventional pairings, or even just try for a general, theme or friendship fic.

As for FFXII pairings, there's something about Balthier x Fran that just doesn't feel right. Fran's like a patient mother/older sister figure, indulging the showy sky pirate and reigning him in when he goes too far. Just can't see the potential for romance there. Being a Viera that's been around for a while I'd think she's above romance. (Come to think of it, I can't picture Fran with anyone...)

I don't think Fran is above dating. And I don't think she acts all wise. I think she is just quiet. And knows alot, because she is so aged.

Fran does have much knowledge, but so does Balthier, he just presents it in a more outspoken way. Fran is, like Yasminesoul said, just quiet. she speaks when no one else has the answer.

i think she deserves a lovely guy, age is of no consequence~

Agreed.Fran looks wise but sometimes she seems to me too solemn.Maybe it's due to her age but i barely see her smile. i remember her once smiling amused when balthier sighed ,in frustration ,for al-cid's "interest" to ashe.

indeed. she often smiles at things Balthier says, and about once at a comment from Penelo i think. i've never heard her laugh though. i think she and Ashe looks really pretty when they smile. and Penelo~

i can't think one person who don't smile at things balthier says ^_^. i believe that vaan and penelo are the "entertainers"of the party.if they weren't there,it would be far too solemn.i mean they're the only kids, a bit simplicity in this war-political story.

As far as the game goes, it's said that Fran is 50+, right? Official sources state that Bal is 22.

For Gab, it's common sense that he is 36. As for Drace, let's not go there. (no sources state her age. bummer.)

(So that's what they're called, huh? Incest? Oh! I see now!) Incest aint bad. Depends on the age, though. If it's FatherXSon, that's gross. BrotherXBrother is fine by me, since I like VayneXLarsa myself. (I just like it, I don't support it.)

i believe that Fran is about 80 or more.Balthier is for sure 23.some people say that the age isn't a problem.but it's kinda weird if you pair ashe with basch or balthier with fran knowing the age gap.especially in balxfran pairing.

about incest pairings try to imagine balxcid..0_0..THAT'S SICK!

eh about larsa and vayne it's hard to imagine that too...

About Fran's age: I hear some people aging her around 50-100. That always seemed a little low to me... She left her village 50 years before the game. She probably left the Wood when she was in her rebellious years (probably around 18-22 in human years). During the game, she seems VERY wise and sure of herself; thats something that you don't see in people under the age of 35, so... I'd say about she's about 35-40 in Hume years. So I'd place her at about 150-200 years old.

To incest pairings: I couldn't care less. I'm not going to search out and read about incest pairings or write a fic about one, but I don't care if people write about them.

Well, I think Basch and Fran would be cute together! I mean,

hey they're both old... Basch is 36 and Fran is... unknown ^o^

And i kinda support the Basch x Ashe pairing! I like it a lot!

Plus, i think Ashe developed a liking for Basch in the game!

You know, since Penelo said in the letter that

'though she would never admit it... I think she misses him...' ^o^ how sweet!

FranxVaan isn't very likely at all. Fran with balthier is another story. i believe that they're partners and had a past together.

as for ashe and basch i think that in the game they had no interaction and only in the end SE showed that ashe maybe felt something about him.i mean only in the end it seemed that ashe felt something for balthier and basch.

I think Basch/Ashe would be a much more likely pairing than Balthier/Ashe, afterall, at the end of the game, Balthier returns Ashe's ring via a letter to Vaan and not to Ashe. This is a bit of a let-down after Ashe shrieked his name in the Bahamut scene. So maybe he's just being a charmer and she's just another girl to fall for it, whereas Basch is more dedicated. The only reason he stayed with Larsa at the end is because he had no choice but to claim his dead brother's identity, so that can't be held against him!

Ashe DEF fell for Balthier's charms. And why wouldn't she? Who wouldn't? Big bad pirate spills his deepest, darkest secrets to her- and seemingly (other than fran, of course) her only. Poor girl probably thought that it was her second chance at love.

I think at the end she knew he really didn't want her. As much as I wish he did (sigh, I love BalxAshe!), he probably didn't. He would have found a way to see her at least ONCE over the past year- even if he didn't see her, to leave her a clue that he lived.

or MAYBE--> he kept away and didn't give the ring to her personally because he DID want her. He's not stupid- he can never BE with her. And the easiest thing for him to do is what he did in the past: Run Away. At least until he can get over her.

I like that last one. Much more romantic. I'm hoping Balthier and Ashe boinked several times during the game. Then Ashe boinks Basch after the game ends. :)
