Topic: Can we still post our reviews? Careful, the response can be very rude!
Hey,

Some people are just lucky we cannot see the response to our reviews on this site because I just received the rudest one of them all!

In a personal message, none of the less! I throw out her first response because it was too mean but I kept this one because I couldn't believe my eyes.

Here it is:

I've been giving your comment to my story a lot of thought

and I just feel I need to add a little extra comment to what I've already said

to you.

There's a code of conduct among fan-fic authors and readers that -- if upheld

-- preserves the peace and makes sure nobody's feelings get stomped on. I

don't have any particular feelings about your comment other than that I

thought it was rude of you to basically try to threaten me into writing the

story in a specific manner.

In general I couldn't care less if you don't like the story, but there is

such a little thing as common decency you might want to look into. Don't be

negative when you comment on a story. It's not productive and it most

definitely is not constructive critisism. If you have issues with the way

someone writes a story, it's of course okay to state that opinion, but do it

in a way that doesn't hurt the other person's feelings.

That said, if you feel you don't want to read my story any further because

I'm not writing it the way you want or you're ticked off with me for this

message, fine. Don't. I have plenty of readers and I wouldn't know the

difference anyway.

I'm just trying to give you a bit of friendly advice here.

I just like the part "could care less if you don't like my story (sure looks like it!) and I have plenty of readers so I wouldn't know the difference (very nice of you!)". Why do you write on this site if you don't want our opinions?

She's very lucky I won't post her name but if there is any way to block her so she couldn't do this to someone else, please tell me now!

A reviewer still in shock,

alwaysateen

P.S.: I could post my review if you like to make an opinion for yourself but that would maybe give away the story and author. Trying to be civil and nice here. But I could tell you that I wasn't mean or rude, I'm never been in my whole life, I swear.

Oh wow. That hasn't happened to me yet *knock on wood*

Okay, I'm confused. Did you flame or give con-crit?

Still, I wouldn't worry about that idiot. If (s)he can't take a little con-crit or helpful tips, then (s)he is not worth your time.

Ugh, I hate those people! Childish writers who freak out at concrit. I LOVE it. That's why I've improved INCREDIBLY since joining. But honestly; if you can't accept comments about your work, don't post on ff.net. It's as simple as that.

I KNOW! If you aren't prepared to take the risk, then just don't post!

I concritted an author using a review that wasn't sickeningly sweet, but honest enough to get my point across. And the reply?

Well, it wasn't pretty. Not that it was like, crammed full of cuss words and caps, but it was basically all, "Whatever. I'm high and mighty, and I don't care what you say. I WAS going to rant about it in my next chapter, but then I decided not to."

Er, what exactly is wrong with her message? I didn't see anything rude or insulting about it

I've left reviews which to which I've received PMs where the author is swearing and spouting vitriol such as "my charictor is NOT a MaRy Sue, I'll write how I dam well pleeze you ****ing flamer b***h"

Could you post the review you left the author?

Ah, sorry, it's too long. But she was seriously being an ass. Other people were giving her tactful, nice reviews to STOP with the script format and her character was a Mary Sue, and she wrote a long, swear word filled Author's Note that told people to shut up.

My review was harsher than the ones I usually write, because I wanted to drive everyone's points into her thick skull. But she sent another PM telling me that she hoped my mother got shot. Nice. xD

Sounds like the best place for her is a padded cell.

Script format AND a Mary Sue, sounds like bad fic heaven. I bet she has teh baad spelilngz two

I hate script format and Mary Sue's bore me, unless they're deliberately written as Mary Sue's as they can sometimes be hilarious.

Actually, her spelling wasn't that bad. Which, in a way, made the whole situation worse, because if she can spell, she has no excuse for everything else. The whole thing was basically script, OOCness, and long-winded paragraphs describing every minute detail of all her many OCs.

Ah, Mary-Sues. I have two Sue parodies, and quite miraculously, I've only been flamed once! But then she went back and said that her OC WAS a Sue...

hell yeah. So far, I have recived no really vicious replies to any reviews I've written, but generally if I don't like the story I won't bother reviewing. Call me a wuss, but reviews just encourage the authors, even if they are bad. Perhaps if they see a metaphorical desert on their reviews they'll realise that they're not very good. Okay, that was really hypocritical of me coz I don't get a huge amount of reviews, but that's probably coz im not writing cheezy highschool AUs or yaoi.

Ok, look. No offense intended, but if they can't accept constructive criticism then why'd they waste time posting in the first place? Are they trying to cyber bully others who tried to help them improve? That's extremely stupid and idiotic.

Although I must admit, my stories don't always get a lot of reviews because I don't write what the fandom wants me to write. Come on now! Since when was it against the rules to write something you like, something that'll make you happy?

I used to get flames because my fandom (let alone this site) has sexist issues. I'm not saying this is true, but ever since I started out here it's all about mediocrity. That's why I revert to writing slash and I took off one of my college AUs, which was *shoot me now*, het.

Some girl put up a review of the movie that the fandom was based on. She was rating it and giving us a plot summary and talking about how she hated the female lead but loved the male lead. I did not flame. I went through the whole thing, pointed out some things, and finally politely told her that as it was not a fanfic, it did not belong on the site. Of course she blew up and called me a flamer. She did take down the review, though.

Well, some people deserve to be flamed. Too bad if it hurts them so much; they need to grow up and respect the TOS for once.

I have come down on a few people and one got super sensitive. I told her if she planned on being a good writer, she needed to learn to take constructive criticism. I told her in the working world, her comments would get her in trouble or fired! I know as a fiction writer and a legal writer, you either take constructive criticism or drown!

Yes like for example here: http://www.fanfiction.net/r/4276795/ the top review is legit. The one below is a flame (the second one from the top)

I've never gotten a response like that before on all my time here on Fanfiction. People who can't take constructive criticism should either scrap it or keep their stories to themselves.
