Hi, I'm new here, and I just wanted to get writers' opinions on this. Personally I don't like the Batman universe as it exists in the comics today. As far as Hush and stuff like that goes, I can't stand it. Bruce revealing his identity to Catwoman ruins a carefully balanced relationship, and Thomas Wayne being alive and part of a criminal conspiracy? Ridiculous. Etc. I'm all for people taking Batman in weird directions, but I feel like making that the official state of the Batman universe is stupid. Bruce Wayne is Batman, his parents are dead, in my opinion. No one else belongs under the cowl. End rant for now.
I grew up on TAS and still watch it; most of those stories probably aren't canon. My favorite Batman graphic novels are DKR and Brian Azzarello's Joker, which aren't canon. I also liked Batman Begins, and the plot of the Arkham Asylum video game, which I'm assuming aren't canon. I even liked Broken City, which I guess caused a stir for not having Robin? That's my background. I love the concepts and the intricacies of Batman's relationship with Gordon, Robin and the villains, but I like them in their simple form.
The people in charge of Batman right now (and even since the 80s) don't make decisions about the characters etc. that I like. I will accept Robin in the picture, but having a lot of heroes (Nightwing, Huntress) in Gotham City just seems to dilute the Batman mythos. For me the whole point is that Batman stands alone in a messed up city trying to make things right, not helped out by a team of people.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Those are my opinions and I doubt they will change, and this stripped down, non-canon version is what I write, but I'd like to know what other people think. I am a Batman fan, and write Batman stories, but I am disgusted by the state of Batman.2/21/2011 #1
I get what you're saying and I don't follow the comics much anyhow considering the clustered mess that has been going on the past few years.5/25/2011 #2
