Drake DragonsoulTopic: Attention, please. This forum is to be used for discussion of alien related material mainly, though deviating from the topic is perfectly acceptable. (Go nuts.)In addition to the normal forum rules, I would also like to impose a no bashing or flaming rule. Just cause you don't like a person's opinion, or something is no reason to have a fit. Finally, this forum is also going to be used as the official forum for the set of stories I've written which I'm collectively calling the Scar saga. |
Reef-SharkAre you going to start the subjects, or how does this work out? |
Drake DragonsoulGive me some time to type them up. |
Xeno the HedgehogWhere do you draw the line between Disagreement and flaming/bashing? I don't want to cause a repeat of the incident with that other guy, what was his name? Supreme Vegemite overlord or something like that?| #4 Mar 09th 2007, 10:24am

Drake DragonsoulI would say that disagreement would be something like stating that you don't agree with someone just by saying it nicely and trying not to sound critical or offensive, maybe state your reason for disagreeing. Flaming/bashing would probably be more like being critical and saying that you simply don't like somebody's ideas for no reason and being mean or offensive, such as "you noob, you suck," kind of thing. | #5 Mar 09th 2007, 11:42am . Reef-SharkI t means don't do what they do on most of the IMDB message boards.| #6 Mar 09th 2007, 12:58pm

Xeno the HedgehogI've never been on the IMDB forums. If I were to express disapproval about something, and then give a detailed explanation for said disapproval, would that be considered flaming? |
Reef-SharkAh, well I'm your man for IMDB. no, they only consider you a flamer if you state how much you hate it without stating a good reason. Like don't say this: "I hate it because it sucks!"Now if you give constructive criticism on why you don't like it that's fine. |

Xenomorph HistorianUmm excuse me. Does anyone ever check these forums out? well ill go to the punch quickly then:Currently, im composing a...analysis of sorts that compiles on all known accepted Xenomorph attributes due to my hate of people almost always screwing something up that makes Alien Alien. I've read both Reef-Shark's and Drake's assorted fics and i wanted to ask if i could use a few of the major ideas that you own from those fics in said analysis without getting burned too bad by the original writers. Im kinda new here so i only guessed that asking you directly would be the right course of action. |
Drake DragonsoulI'm not sure. Could you be more specific as to which ideas? |
Xenomorph HistorianHURRAY HES STILL ALIVE*ahem* as to which ideas well... The simple fact of (gah forgot the company) some company getting a hold of this "Devils Light", and maybe the inner workings of how you portray a Hive in your stories (i.e. they know that Scar is a human-alien hybrid, has to prove himself, yadah yadah yadah), and possibly the mutations in the Alien chemistry that occurs with human/alien hybridization when a human is forcibly transformed. p.s. do you know if Reef-Shark is still here? Dang i really got inspired from both him and you to write something of a "truth" to the Alien's workings. And the current name for the said "Xeno-analysis" is "The Essence of Time", if you havent seen it already. edit: hmmm, now as i think about it, who owns the "Jailbreak-esque" idea of Aliens always escaping their "prison cells". I also have an idea of spinning off a story from said analysis... | #11 Feb 02nd, 2:02pm . Edited Feb 02nd, 2:09pm

Reef-SharkI still live? I've always been hanging around this here forum, just been waiting for a good discussion to rear its head. Hello new person I haven't met in the past :3 I will get back to my previous stories in due time, for now I have a new fic my girlfriend urges to be continued so...sorry man x3| #12 Feb 02nd, 2:13pm . Drake DragonsoulYou mean actually having it take place in the universe of my fanfic, or are you just using that as an example? I'm really not sure I want to let people use my actual fanfic world. I don't mind you use the whole human has to prove himself thing because I think that would be logical in any hive and the human/alien hybridization... Well, I never really did too much with that, other then giving the transformees human intelligence and then later praetorian mutations with the flesh colored markings. Jailbreak-esque? Hmm, dunno, though I think that's something from the movies. |
Xenomorph HistorianOkay let me clarify:The main subject as it is is that i want to use your universe and include it's information, not as my own i swear, in my own writings as a sort of example, as you have put before. I dont want to "use your fanfic world" but i want to include it's events in my own fanfic universe/world but i will, of course, clarify to all readers that "Some content may not belong to me, due to the fact that i am using other author's writings. p.s. to Reef Shark, gah read e-mail b4 i came to forums :_:. |
Reef-SharkHello, I am very much alive...just was taking a long writing break. Working on my new fic, and will probably add to Gene5K7 in the near future |
Drake DragonsoulOkay, that sounds acceptable. |
Xenomorph HistorianHmm... maybe not including your events due to the fact that our time lines may be different...The analysis is set right here, right now (actually the current date in it is Jan 2008, when i first posted the story). And, I'm pretty sure that your story is a wee bit older than mine, although I'll include something to bridge the gap of human techs so they can finally get out 'n' colonize worlds. Although I think that the inclusion of Scar's exploits in my story might be a kind of a pinch in the neck, supposedly I can still make the subtle references to your theorems in it for the Analysis parts of the story. I'm not sure if anyone has actually debated this but from what I've seen, Xenomorphs "age" when in the absence of a Hive for too long (say more than 3-4 months) or it is possible that the exoskeleton of the Xenomorph requires (I'm saying completely theoretically, but from another's fanfic idea) small amounts of sunlight similar to what humans need, but still smaller nonetheless. "Queen of the Red Skittle" made a story including something of this caliber, where a praetorian that had been separated from it's hive and kept in a building without sunlight began to have "skin troubles" which included a "unhealthy coloring" and peeling exoskeleton, and of course the expected effect of dulled claws and tail-blade. Though, with the right ministrations a Xenomorph could possibly live forever. The point I'm trying to get across is that it would be very hard to create a story where two characters from 2 different time periods meet and when conditions are poor, the older one could possibly not be able to reach the other one. Wait, not that's not it... Ooookay I think I just lost my train of thought here. And now, as I write this I'm pretty sure I don't want to use Devil's Light, but something more similar to it of my own design. How it shows up? You'll probably wait a year to hear that (considering the pace I'm going at). Oh wow I just thought of the 4 analysis parts (finally...): History, Physical Attributes, Behavior/Intelligence, and (gee, no wonder, look at what happened to the guys in Scar's prison) Immediate Possible Dangers. Now I just have to plan for a 1 analysis/1 part of main story alteration, and of course force myself to write the darn thing down. p.s. My mind wandered a little with the last main topic of "human mutations occurring in hybridization"... all I can say for now is that a kink in the Serum turns out to be very deadly, to whom you'll have to wait and see... | #17 Feb 06th, 7:08am . |
Drake DragonsoulYeah, my story is set sometime after Aliens I would say. Maybe they could live for a very long time under optimal conditions. It's never really elaborated in the movies, because by the end the aliens no longer have optimal conditions. XD Sounds interesting, but a little confusing. |

Xenomorph HistorianGah! I'm stopping on cold turkey with my gaming life, to which the outcome might be mind-blowing (literally).I think I'm going to start and try to see if the story is going to get written up, well mostly. I think I might update with another chapter during the weekend. Must...resist...playing...games... Dang, I really think the computer is a drug of sorts after you use it frequently ("Free Crack, look at monitor screen please!" seems kinda plastered all over the screen if you've had a computer for awhile). I learned a few days ago that computer monitors give off light similar to what is in the mornings, causing the brain to freak out and takes awhile to settle down causing much unrest, which leads to having a large trouble with sleeping. Wonder if there's something that can shake me off of this addiction and get me focused on writing! *considers blowing the thought of games out altogether with a very big mind gun* p.s. No homework tomorrow! Will try and focus only on writing the fiction! |
Xenomorph HistorianGood news!!! I got over half of second chapter done for my fic. Sadly, it turns out that I have some homework over the weekend so I have to do that before I can do anything else :_: (thank god no math homework). p.s. What is the fine line between T and M rating? or K,K+ and T? |
Drake DragonsoulCool. We should probably move this to the discussion topic. I'm not entirely sure. I just rate all of my fics T to be safe. |
Xenomorph HistorianGood news! Second chapter is done, checked over, and UPLOADED!I finally convinced myself to just sit down and write (after doing a little over half my homework), and while doing some other things, for some odd reason I got rid of all my games on my computer. Seems to me my sub-conscious wants me to write without competition :_:. |
Reef-SharkAs for rating what I decided it it ALL has to do with atmosphere. That's the difference when it comes to literature for T and M ratings. An M rating I believe is sexualy explicit OR incredibly violent or having and incredbly dark setting. Setting and general story plot is what makes my current fic rated 'M'...and the more I write the second chapter of that the more it deserves it. |
Xenomorph HistorianGah, I can't write a story alongside my Analysis. The cogs in my head aren't turning for a good plot to come up in a time line where the story is happening today... I think I'll just make the Analysis a really long one-shot with no regard of trying to make a story within it, although I might try to write some stories just using the one-shot analysis.I wonder why my head can't come up with any good summaries! Titles, Names, trying to begin with a Back Story/History, and Summaries are the main things in writing that I always have to wrestle with. Other than dealing with someones feedback on a story... | #24 Feb 11th, 6:53pm . Edited Feb 11th, 6:56pm
Reef-SharkA real summary would be like a paragraph or longer. FF.net needs asystem where it has a short summary, but then click a button for the complete summary. And since no one's reviewed my latest fic I may aswell do the next chapter so it gets back at the top of the recent submissions |
Xenomorph HistorianI'd give you lots of reviews if you updated Gene 5k7 >:(.Then again I might check out the new fic you got Reef. Isn't it the M-Rated one? |
Reef-SharkYeah I know you want new Gene5K7, it'll be updated soon, just trying to fit in my new writing style in with it, because mine really has changed quite a bit.Yes, it is the one rated M for dark themes, often having people tell me it reminds them of thew novels. |
Xenomorph HistorianYay more Debra Quint! *coughs*(Novels, as in the published ones?) I think someone said that I thought the novels were Canon? No, I don't think that. I disagree with some of what I've read, but since I haven't been able to get my hands on the serial novels I can't really say much more. I wish I'd just do my homework and get to re-writing my Analysis. Eh? What's this cloud forming around me? *POOF!* |
Reef-SharkMy work isn't much based on novels, I disregard most points brought forth in the novels. I am me me me, my ideas, not the novel adaptations of the comics ideas. I meant novel by my writing style improving |
Xenomorph HistorianAh, that kind of "novel". Thanks for clearing that up then, Reef.Hummm why is Weyland/Yutani always painted as evil? Oh wait thats a dumb question with a simple answer: They want power... |
Reef-SharkEvil or are they really that different from modern ddays corporations if you really think about it |
Xenomorph HistorianHeh, yes now that I think about it... Well, I think I have been silent in my writings for a bit too long. I retreated from the remains of the "analysis" that hasn't been updated in sooo long, with a feelling of shame, mainly on the fact on how poorly I tried to change it from what I had originally intended. Ah, yes I remember the shame even now. But, I have decided to break my silence. Very soon. I feel like I made a mistake with the previous "analysis", so that has been removed from my vision, but that won't mean that I am not still considering something still like it. Then, there is what I said about doing a "spin-off" from the analysis... Ohhhh yes I have the perfect idea to intertwine the two... Cogs are turning in my head again. I feel a new vigor to finish what I had started, which has been represented by stocking up information and re-reading many of the fictions I had planned to use as an unsaid "bibliography" of sorts... I feel like I over-stepped the word-count on this... "reply", so I will cut it off here before I ramble on too much, and write a whole book. |
alvsprOk, Xenomorph Historian (thanks again for your review) I'd like to show you a website which was done by a fan and I think is still kind a work in progress which is like a scientific exploration into the aliens (not predators). It's very very well written. - http://www.anchorpointessays.com/ It's like a scientific analysis of the aliens. |
Xenomorph HistorianYes, thank you very much for that, alvspr. Unfortunately, I think I won't be reading it until after my own Xeno Document is finished. I think that I planned to only use logic, some of the information I learned that I consider usable from the AvP2 game and the novels based on aliens, and then a whole lotta things I came across when reading fan-fictions to create my document. Of course, with many disclaimers in it and acknowledging which fictions I used ideas from, and their respective authors. I thank you for the thought of referring that website to me, but after skimming a few parts of it, I decided against actually reading it, because I want to create my document first. I wouldn't want to read someone else's opinion/"scientific inquiry", and then try to incorporate those ideas in them with my own document. That would be soemthing I would consider "stealing", because if I did do the aforementioned, I would be stealing ideas from a fellow writer who spent and is spending many days to create that analysis. I would consider the analysis that you referred to me as someone else's original "research". I think my own reasons for creating this document have changed drastically from when I first had the first thoughts that led me to where I am now, and where I am trying to get to. But, still I thank you for the thought, alvspr. |
alvsprThat website is very logical in its assumptions. Very well thought out. And extremely well presented. I can understand if you want to do it yourself though. Good luck. |
Reef-SharkHuh? What? I'm sleepy right now and finally got around to this |
