Drake DragonsoulTopic: Lay of the Land Just ask any questions about the planet my fic takes place on and the local wildlife. The hive's territory is firmly fixed within the Sojourn Valley. The Valley is very large and possess several cave systems, rivers, and swamps as well as canyons. The area is covered in dense rainforest, like most of the planet. The Komosloth is the cheif predator and justly so, but became mere prey for the xenomorphs when they arrived. The Komoslothes are brown and scaley. They are also acid resistant and thus a dangerous threat to the xenomorphs. They have a pack grouping and are about as intelligent as most earth pack animals. A large unnamed flower also inhabits the valley. This flower is capable of spraying a deadly stream of acid to prevent itself from being eaten, or trampled. It also absorbs nutrients from the animals it dissolves. This flower has led several species to develop an immunity to acid. The fire wyrms are newcomers to the valley and are a credible threat. The snakes are silver colored and aquetic. The snake's main method of killing is to drag its victim into the water and then drown or constrict it. If that fails, the snakes is capable of breathing a jet of blue flames. The fire wyrm is also acid-resistant. The cacherin is a large shrimplike crustecean. The cacherin captures prey by launching barbed cables at its prey and then shocking the creature with large amounts of electricity. The cacherin are known to travel in groups, but are not acid resistant and thus not much of a threat to the xenomorphs. The farthin is a cat sized lizard after maturing from its tadpole-like form it will spend the rest of its life in the trees. The farthin mates at the begining of the rainy season. Female farthins then become extremely dangerous. The mother spews its young in an eggpouch and the pouch attaches to another animal. The pouch burrows through the host's skin and any bone that gets in its way and releases thousands of tiny larva into its host's blood stream. The larva eats the host from the inside out. The unfortunate victim dies slowly and painfully. The larva emerge as tadpoles and spend the rest of their childhood in the floodwater that the rainy season brings. The tadpoles have matured into adult farthins by the end of the rainy season. The fathin is not acid proof and is thus unable to use xenomorphs as a host species. The farthin's parasitic lifestyle and quick growth rate has earned it the nickname of "the xenomorph's little brother" among the human settlers. | #1 Mar 12th 2007, 4:35pm .
