Flame Rising
Topic: **Forum Disclaimer, Announcements and Updates**
After reading some of the posts here, I thought I would address a few issues about the forum.

⇒ Forum Disclaimer ⇐

(because shit, I was in the mood to write an essay anyway, and I used pretty, pretty bullets to break it up…):

¤ The purpose of this forum is not to serve as a type of headquarters for an “army of flamers”. Everyone here acts of his/her own volition and not under my direction. Furthermore, a large portion of the membership is comprised of people who do not flame in any way, shape, or form. I created this forum as a means for people who were unhappy with their reviews to communicate as such since I do not have the time to read the inordinate number of private messages/replies sent to me. In addition, I also created it for entertainment purposes. Since its inception a few months ago, the forum has grown beyond anything I had ever imagined, and emerged as a gathering place for a wide variety of FFnet members.

¤ I am asking that anyone who posts here be careful of the language you use in your posts. I’m not speaking of profanity, but rather talking in a manner that could be construed as threatening to others. Even in jest, speaking of guns, killing, etc, can lead to some negative consequences and put this forum at risk of being shut down.

¤ Also, while I appreciate the fervor of those of you who do flame, I do hope you have a set of standards by which you judge stories. While I flame on a large scale, the stories I hit are not chosen randomly. As an assistant editor and published author myself, I am able to identify poorly written stories quickly (and I do not say that to be an egotistical ass, I say it so people can understand that I have the experience to make the judgments I do). I do not flame based solely on pairings, slash, fandom, or because someone asks me to. I flame as a wake-up call to the author that the story needs major work or does not belong here in the first place (i.e. is an original or real person fic).

¤ I am trying to move away from the idea that this forum is a cult or army of flamers that I send out onto poor, unsuspecting writers on the site. It has never been and will never be such. I do not ask anyone to flame anything, nor am I a “flame-for-hire”. While people will believe what they want in order to negate the message that their writing may not be perfect, I do not want to perpetuate the myth that we are an army of flamers out to incinerate every story on the site.

¤ Lastly, as the forum creator and moderator, I reserve the right to delete and edit posts as well as block users. Simply put, I do not have to have a reason to; however, I have made clear the fact that I do not exercise these options unless I feel it necessary. The forum is a place for people to express their opinions. I have no issue with people not liking me, and do not delete, edit, or block based on that. I do have issue with people spamming, trying to cause problems with other users, speaking in a threatening manner, or stirring up unnecessary drama amongst the users of the forum.

I will post any important notices, updates, etc. on this thread so if you are a member or regular user, please be mindful of it.

Thanks much and enjoy the forum.

Flame Rising
I appreciate the suggestion of the “How to Flame” thread; however, I am trying really hard to steer this forum away from the assumption that we are an army of flamers here to incinerate every story on the site. If Xing perceives us as that, then we’re in jeopardy of having this forum taken down.

With that said, over the past few days I’ve noticed from posts here and on stories I’ve read that there are a few people who are either using one of my old flames entirely or copying bits and pieces from the old ones to make a new one. While I’m flattered that people find my flames worthy enough to copy, I am asking to please steer clear of that for a couple of reasons. One: they are my trademark so to speak. I created them to be unique to me as part of my flaming persona. Half the fun of flaming is to make your own mark, your own stamp, with your own words. Two: Having people who are forum members/users use my flames does make it look as if I am sending people out to burn everything here. It does make it look like we are an “army”, and once again, I am trying to get away from that myth.

I have really stopped adding stories to my C2s because people were going to them and flaming them after I did, which is a bit of an overkill (especially when the people flaming after me used one of my flames). The other fun part of flaming is finding the story yourself and figuring out if it is indeed flame-worthy by your standards.

I’m not asking these things to be an egotistical asshole. I’m asking them because I’m trying to make sure this forum stays here for a long time. If we’re perceived as an army with me sending you guys out to flame all the fandoms for the hell of it, then it won’t be here much longer.

Much thanks,

F/R
