![]() I think they might be updating it or something. It might have to do with the year changing. 1/02/2012 #181 |
![]() New question (and I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but the forums here are SO labyrinthine, it took me forever to find this forum!) Do I have to make a new account on FictionPress or can I use my Fanfiction.net account to post a story? I keep trying to log in on FictionPress with my FF email and password and get a message saying invalid email/password. I've cleared out my cookies but it's still not working. I thought you could use the same account on both FF and FP? Is that not true? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. 1/07/2012 #182 |
![]() Interesting. I see you do have an account there with the same name and ID number probably because your account is old whereas I only joined here about July and I see I don't have an account there. I'm guessing that years ago perhaps they were combined then they changed it and split accounts. Possibly you got an email long ago informing you of the new password but if you didn't use that site at all at the time perhaps you didn't take much notice. Apart from searching back through your emails I don't know what you can do. Or is it perhaps your email address changed during that time and you updated your account here but not there? If so, see if you can find your old email address. 1/07/2012 #183 |
![]() Thanks for replying. Actually, you're right: my email address did change (my old email address got hacked by spambots so I had to cancel that account), for some reason I completely forgot to mention that. I guess I didn't think it was important. So then, you're saying logging in using my old email address would work? Once I do that, I'll have to change it to use my new email address, right? Thanks again, you've been hugely helpful. 1/07/2012 #184 |
![]() Okay, I just followed your suggestion and tried using my old email address and it worked! I'll now have to change it on FP. Thanks so much for your help! 1/07/2012 #185 |
![]() Glad to hear that helped. :) 1/07/2012 #186 |
![]() One weird thing though: I edited the email address for FP to my new email address and it's been changed successfully, but my FP profile is still showing the old email address. It's odd because once I changed the email on FF, the new email was showing on my FF profile. Or does it just take a while for the change to kick in on the profile page? 1/08/2012 #187 |
![]() Definitely worth waiting a day to see if it changes. Also you might try disabling it then re-enabling its display (if still allowed) in the setting. It will likely be a button marked display email or something. However, here at fanfiction that option is not there anymore so it might be the same there. 1/08/2012 #188 |
![]() Thanks for the tip. Will give it a try. 1/08/2012 #189 |
![]() Updating times can be uneven based on the load at the time. I think waiting is worth a try, but if it still hasn't changed yet, you should definitely send a help ticket. Sometimes they miss stuff. For several months, I wasn't even searchable by username on this site. 1/11/2012 #190 |
![]() Thanks for your reply, but it got updated to the new email a few days ago. That's why I haven't posted about it again. :) I actually have a new problem now. I wanted to post a story on Fiction Press but the obnoxious thing keeps telling me the document I've uploaded is invalid or some idiot message like that. I've tried both story and docx formats but neither works, and I can't find any forums there to ask for help. Argh! 1/11/2012 #191 |
![]() I've heard that if you use Word docX format then you should still make sure you select story format when uploading in Document Manager. Otherwise. I can only suggest you save in html format and upload. 1/11/2012 #192 |
![]() Hippothestrowl, .docx is a file type used by Word 2007 and newer. It's like the .doc file type, but the document itself is compatible with Word 2007 and 2010's individual special features and not with older versions of Word and some other word processing programs. DocX is a document sharing program designed and used by FFN. They are entirely different. It sounds like your file is either corrupted or saved in a file type that is incompatible with FictionPress' document manager system. Try resaving the document as a different file type (.rtf, .html, .txt, .odt, etc.) and maybe that will solve the problem. 1/11/2012 . Edited 1/11/2012 #193 |
![]() Thanks again for the tips, I'll give them a try. 1/11/2012 #194 |
![]() I'm wondering, how do you change your password on fanfiction? It's kinda urgent, I accidentally left my password somewhere and my sis got it and I'm not sure what she's going to do.... T^T 1/11/2012 #195 |
![]() You're welcome~ I'm wondering, how do you change your password on fanfiction? It's kinda urgent, I accidentally left my password somewhere and my sis got it and I'm not sure what she's going to do.... T^T Go to the Account tab when you log in, go to Settings, find Password in the table, and press edit. I believe you have to type in your current password once and your new password twice. Passwords should be something that is easy for you to remember but hard for people to figure out. You should also NEVER write your passwords down or give them out to anyone. 1/11/2012 . ![]() The weird thing about my problem is, even when I do manage to submit the document on Fiction Press (and I've tried several Word formats by now, I've also tried the LibreOffice format) the uploaded document's text looks funny. Normally on FF it looks just like the plain text in my Word file. On Fiction Press, it's doing a really annoying thing by bunching all the text together but having b or p or whatever to indicate where there's a new paragraph or bold or italicized word in there. I'd submit the story like that but I have no way of previewing it to see if it'll look like my plain regular text file, or if it'll actually have those bold and italic and paragraph tags in there with all the text bunched in together. Very frustrating. I'm thinking I could submit the story anyway and if it comes out looking peculiar I'll just delete it but I'd rather figure out what the trouble is first. 1/13/2012 #197 |
![]() Just a wild guess but try refreshing the web page in your web browser after it is displaying like that. Not sure if it's the same thing but we had problems here where some users said the text was all bunched up. I saw it myself and refresh cleared it so it might be a timing out script on an overloaded server. 1/13/2012 #198 |
![]() @Cresmoon, Fictionpress has been having problems for over a month, so it's not something you're doing or not doing. The regulars say it happens sometimes and all we can do is wait it out. The traffic isn't working right, you can only edit in html, and I'm told the profiles are working the same way. It's a mess over there. When I posted my last chapter, I did all my editing on my computer before I uploaded it since I'm not very familiar with html, and that tiny window bugs me. It did come out alright, but the readership is barely ten percent what it used to be. I'm hoping they'll get things fixed, but I'm not a patient person, and I'm looking for other places to post my story. BTW I like The Globe forum there, since the folks are fairly helpful and familiar with the site; though not as much as they are here. 1/13/2012 #199 |
![]() Thanks again for the replies. I think I tried refreshing the page but it didn't do anything. But it does sound like an FP problem and not something I'm doing wrong. 1/13/2012 #200 |
![]() Oh yeah, that's happened on FFN before. At least a couple times since I've been here. You can report it if you want, but likely as not everyone has already told the site admins, so mostly you just need to wait. 1/13/2012 #201 |
![]() Um, can someone help me with my page, every time I go to traffic stats and look at the Legacy User Page it only shows I have 2 favorites and 1 alert, but when I got to my actual email, I see a lot more than that. Why won't the site update? Thanks. :) 1/31/2012 #202 |
![]() When they set an alert you get an email but maybe if they later cancel you don't. 1/31/2012 #203 |
![]() I figured out the problem now and I'm able to see the favorites and alerts. Thank you for your help! 1/31/2012 #204 |
![]() Sorry guys, please ignore this post. I'm only making it to uncheck the "email me when there are replies to this topic" box and I don't know how to do it otherwise. Sorry. As you were. 1/31/2012 #205 |
![]() Cresmoon, unfortunately, that doesn't work to unsubscribe you from threads--it's just there so you have the option to prevent it from happening in the first place. You'll have to click on the Topic Subscription button, which should be on the right hand side near the top of the page. 1/31/2012 #206 |
![]() Oh, okay. Thanks for the tip! 2/01/2012 #207 |
![]() but some people want their email addresses removed from fanfiction, plus what if someone died and their email address and account is still on there. 2/01/2012 #208 |
![]() What? BluJet The MacawHawk, I have no idea what you're referencing in your post. FFN does not display emails anymore, even if you had the option enabled before. If someone died, well, then their account would just go inactive, that's all. 2/01/2012 #209 |
![]() It's certainly happened. There are authors that I know of who have passed away, whose stories are still up. People still leave reviews on Kielle's stories, for example. 2/01/2012 #210 |
