I doubt I'll have much of an opportunity to use t'internet much while I'm away, so I'd appreciate regular contributors holding the fort for me, if necessary.

This means encouraging others to pay heed to my "No profanities" rule when posting here. Some of my favourite contributors don't like it, you see, and I want to encourage them to keep posting here. I won't make a big deal of it because I'm not particularly prudish, but I do like to be considerate to my friends. Anyway, I'd be grateful if everyone was kind enough to remember that. Have decided to start another forum, The X Box. This is a forum where there is more freedom to discuss your views on certain subjects than there is here. This new forum will have threads in which some very controversial, and occasionally over-18's material will be discussed fully and vigourously. Swearing will be permitted on this new forum, and so will talk about stuff that I don't permit discussion of here. This is to cater for those who want to talk to friends they have met here about those things. There will also be a thread for people to vent about stuff - no topic is forbidden. As on this forum, you will be allowed to start your own threads if you want to.

Am starting The X Box now, so will be busy for a while setting it up.

Sorry I haven't been around for a while, I haven't abandoned this place. I'm just very very busy - to busy even to visit The Fireplace all that often :-/ But I have oodles of time at the moment so I'm trying to get around XD

Had a glance at a certain forum, and it seems they are planning a spam raid here, so I have locked all the topics that aren't regularly used for the moment. The chat thread remains, as does this and a few others. Normal service will resume when the spammers have realized I keep a close eye on people who spam others; use offensive racist, sexist and homophobic language and symbols; and generally behave badly. There won't be many "lulz" here for them, since there are only a few topics for them to spam, some of which were created when we all got along.

Please don't worry about it, it's just a minor inconvenience which will see all of the sock puppet accounts blocked and every single spam post sent to the admins of this site. Depending on how many I get, I guess their inbox is going to get pretty full, since I intend to make my problem Xing's problem until he deals with it once and for all.

If anyone has any questions, or receives any funny PMs, please PM me and let me know. Thanks.

This stuff is usually sporadic so it won't be for long.

Have unlocked a few of the helpful topics while I am on. Since they plan to do the spam thing later on today, I may have to lock them again. Please ask if you want a particular thread unlocked, and I will do so. I know it's annoying, but certain people don't understand the meaning of "Shove off," and I want them kept out. This situation will probably be over in a couple of days.

I see we had visitors last night.

The mess has been cleaned up. My email provider allows piccies to be sent in the body of the text, so the nice avatars have gone in my report to Xing along with the spam. Since I sent each individual post as part of the report, Xing got about thirty copies of each of the affected threads in my forum as it looks, pics and all.

With the advent of the Spring Half Term Break has come an outbreak of Utter Stupidity. Do not approach the Stupid people, and do not try to tackle them.

All incidents of harassment, including PMs from a certain douchebag to my friends; and some determined spammers hitting the Fireplace, have been reported to the FBI's anti-stalking website. If they keep it up, they will go to jail. Not my problem.

Behave or be imprisoned!

It has come to my attention that some people, who are so addicted to drama it's like they're on crack or something, are continuing to stir up trouble by bringing up old stuff. They are sending PMs to people and encouraging them to harass my friends, since they know what will happen if they harass me.

Bad News!!

The FBI anti-stalking website permits me to report stuff done to third parties, i.e. my friends, and because this is part of a wider pattern of ongoing harassment, this IS my business! With that in mind, if anyone receives spam PMs, reviews or posts in their forums, please let me know so I can add to my already extensive reports. This nonsense is going to stop, and that is final.

Do not try to reason with these people - you can't. They don't want to reason, they want to cause trouble. These people are best advised to watch soap operas or something if they like drama so much, and leave US out of it!!

My announcement might sound a bit weird to some of you younger people but here it goes - I got my own office! After spending five years in graduate student squalor, fighting for a seat in the lab room, I have officially graduated to the big kid's table. Now for the really fun part - the office they gave me is one of the best locations in the building. It's in the center hallway overlooking the butterfly garden and pond in the inner courtyard. My advisor's office looks at the parking lot! I think she's kind of jealous. I may end up having to share the office with another visiting scientist, but that's fine. I'm just so excited. I have an office at a major university! I think I may be a grown up now :)
