This is a list of criteria I use to determine whether or not an OC (original character) is a Sue or Stu:

Does your character

i. come from your world

ii. talk and act like a girl from your world, even if she has landed in a male body

iii. do things you would ideally do or have things you would ideally have, such as special powers/remarkable beauty/attractiveness or appeal to canon characters/accident prone/tragic past or victim experience/possession of desirable object/relationship to or with canon characters/join the fellowship or other canon group and affect their lives. Sometimes these are inverted as Evil Sues

iv. do things (usually sexual) to or receive sexual or other things/experiences from canon characters according to your personal desires or fantasies (this can be perverse e.g abuse fics)

v. have an attitude that mirrors your own regarding politics, morality, religion, sociology, etc.

The challenge: to write a story with these attributes in it that either PWNs the list or proves that there are exceptions to the rule (list).

Points are given for:

*Spelling, grammar and punctuation, format and presentation

*Knowledge of canon (the "universe" in which your story is set)

Summary: There are 15 Reasons why I should hate him, and yet no way to explain why I don't.

An AU story that has been a challenge for me to write, in this Danny and Sam hate each other, with Sam being relatively the same and Danny being a bit...insane. It's been hard for me because I changed all the characters in at least ONE way, and no one seems to be reading the part where I said "AU" and they're on my case. I have made some mistakes though, continuity and shit.

Hi there.

I'm still a newbie to FFic and have no qualms in shamelessly plugging my first fic. :) It's based on the novel by Dianne Wynne Jones and the Hayao Miyazaki animated masterpiece 'Howl's Moving Castle' (HMC).

I refer to it as 'The Dusk', and the score from the movie was what inspired join FFic and write the story.

There are only three chapters left before I complete the fic, that was and still is a labour of love. It's a dark look at Howls return from death and I've used a little Greek mythology in the fic. I wanted to try something darker for the HMC Fandom, even though there are some beautifully written and sweet stories posted a while back.

Ok. I'll shut up now. If you should read it, I especially appreciate concrits.

I do have a story that is my pride and joy, because

a) it was a very difficult project: A Vetinari/OC romance and at the same time a Discworld/Jane Austen crossover. Making this credible and doing justice to both authors was no mean feat.

b) it is 40000+ words long and has now been revised, edited and expanded at least four times, so I have spent a lot of time and effort on it.

c) I felt obliged to make it at least marginally humourous, and since that doesn't come easy to me, I am rather proud of the few good jokes I managed to spawn.

d) I have woven into it a lot of cross references, leitmotifs and other little subtleties that probably not many readers will notice, but that delight me.

e) it was the first piece of fiction I've written in English; I felt that was an achievement for me.

If you want a constructive critique of your story, we have a thread for that purpose, you should ask there. Understand that we will be constructive, which means you may not like all that is said, but it will not be a flame. You should write and post stories because you wish to tell a story and receive feedback about what worked and what didn't work with your effort, not because you simply want nice reviews. I'm sure you didn't mean "entitled to finish", everyone who writes is entitled to finish. You are looking for the word "motivated", receiving reviews will make you feel more motivated to finish your story.
