I'm kind of in need of a Beta but it's not completely essential to me. I'm reallly, reeaaaalllyy new to the site and I just posted my first story here what, 14 days ago. *sigh My n00bness must be an insult to you all. Fortunatly I have had some other writing experience on other sites but I'm still figuring out how things work here. I mean I didn't even know how to make a post on one of these forums so I just clicked the reply button on the last person who posted...

Anyway I sort of need a beta but I'll also be a beta for someone who needs one. I probably wouldn't be that good for anyone who has a story that is not in one of these catagories:

Inuyasha

Naruto

Fushigi Yuugi

Yugioh

FMA

Fruits Basket.

I have also read the Harry Potter series, Eragon and well a lot more. I guess I could work with one of them if someone asked me to but I'm much more into anime.

Don't ask me if your not a fan of constructive criticism.

You got it! Only way to post is to reply. The post you reply to only matters if you want to quote them or for some other reason be able to see their post while you type.

Btw, n00biness is not an insult unless you've been here for a year. In which case, I'd suggest consulting a physician before operating heavy machinery, because only brain damage can make you that stupid.

Never appologize for n00biness, only idiocy.

Hurrah! I can actually post on the forums now! Thanks for the tip and I'm glad that you don't mind how amatuer I am. Smiles.

We were all there once. *wink*

Read through the help topic and you ought to be as seasoned as the rest of us. It has lots of great tips and whatnot; I even got answers to questions I didn't know to ask yet when I was new.

Actually, I'm still kinda new, I just don't have too many already-answered-questions left.

Thanks again. I'm going to have a look. Although right now I kind of feel like bowing up and down and singing "I have seen the light!" but... I guess that's just me. XD

Nice avvie, SilverStar.

Do betas sometimes cowrite if the author gets stuck?

I suppose if you ask them, but I haven't heard of that as being a common thing.

That's Alice Cooper, right? It does look cool. You should get it rated in the 'Rate that Avatar' thread.

Again Darkwinter999, I am awed by your kindness ;)

I'm already beta-ing for someone right now, but when I'm done, I'll be available again. Silver, welcome to the site! I've been posting here for years, and I've been reading on here for even longer, and I still get confused by things as simple as internet jargon. I just learned what tl;dr means. XoX

#109 Feb 24th, 1:31pm
Darkwinter999
Kindness? I'm just being truthful!

Btw, I get just as confused, pray share with us the knowlege you have learned, for I too am ignorant of this 'tl;dr'.:)

#110 Feb 24th, 1:37pm
Kanarah J
Ah, but your truth has tact!

tl;dr stands for "too long; didn't read" It's used when someone posts something really long, and it's too long to bother reading. I think it's rather funny.

Darkwinter999
Lol, me too. And thanks for the compliment, I used to insult people all the time with tactless remarks, so I learned to craft my words much more carefully.

Has everyone seen the new Beta Reader thing on their log in?

I can't sign up, unfortunatly, because I don't meet the qualifications. I'm still too much of a newbie and I haven't written enough stories. Anyway I was wondering how you could tell if someone was a Beta. My friend signed up and I only know she is because she wrote it herself on her profile page.

Does anyone else know how you find out without someone acutally telling you?

#114 Feb 27th, 9:02am
Darkwinter999
It is likely going to show up in the profile, but this is really a question for the help topic. Please do not post in the wrong thread like this, it clutters up the thread so that people really don't want to check previous pages for useful information.
#115 Feb 27th, 2:54pm
Celebee O'Tefeld
Well, now that the beta readers system is up, I think we can look into our respective fandoms if we need betas under the Beta Readers button. Moreover, hopefully the people who do post as betas would be more experienced than the run on-the-mill-volunteers. I'll probably be looking for betas as well from there.

I think the new feature is great. It'll really make a difference to get a good beta than just someone who volunteers for you. Actually, I've looked through some of the profiles already? Lol, you can tell the 'reals' from the 'weeds' just by reading... [no offense but some people just aren't cut out to be betas]

The person I was beta-ing for previously seems to have abandoned me so I'm free for beta-ing. Just a couple of questions though: what fandom do you write in, how would you rate your spelling/grammar and do you write yaoi/yuri/lemon?

hey there

i'd like a beta, please! I'm fine with spelling mistakes and stuff (as far as i know) i just need suggestions for improvements, and plot ideas and stuff.

My spelling/grammar is good, i write in Hairspray/Twilight/Harry Potter and no yaoi, yuri or lemon. sound good?

Same here! That way, you get to see the whole list before making a proper selection on which beta suits you the best. The only problem is that some of the sections have a huge amount of betas, and some of them don't even write for the section they are betaring for, which is a huge pre-requisite of mine. Hopefully, I can find one soon because I desperately need one for the Eragon section, since my stories there do tend to be not very successful. Does anyone have any recommendations for betas in that particular area?

Teaching, like anything else, is a skill that takes talent and practice.

I completely agree. Most teachers do start out rather shy and wary, but they tend to blossom out due to experience. In my opinion, the best teachers seem to come from the thirties to forties range, though I have come across teachers who are either older or younger who are really very good as well.

Dude...is that supposed to be a Draco-chibi!? OMG...that's hilarious!!! it's making me think of Powerpuff girls...and I'm like...Draco-Powerpuff...draco-powerpuff...lmao!!

#123 Mar 19th, 6:42pm

Well, it does have the lable "Firewisky" on it, which automatically points to him being a Harry Potter character, and how many blond Slytherins do we actually know?

Oh. But since when did Malfoy were pigtails and look like a g- wait, he always looked like a girl. Still, he doesn't do pigtails.

The picture is from Potterpuffs, from a really talented artist on Livejournalm who draws the characters similarly to the Powerpuff girls. Hence the extreme cuteness.

Oh. But since when did Malfoy were pigtails and look like a g- wait, he always looked like a girl. Still, he doesn't do pigtails.

That's strange, I didn't see any pigtails in the picture. I don't actually think he looks like a girl, but I do admit to having a problem with his appearance as well; I didn't like the blond hair and the black eyebrows. The least they could do was dye his eyebrows as well.

I see, thanks! I want a Draco Malfoy icon as well, but I would prefer a Southpark one too. Oh, and an Obama one as well. Does anyone know where I can find them?

Darkwinter999

Sorry, by the time I replied again the avatar had been changed, and I thought I remembered pigtails. Maybe that's because I thought it was Bubbles. They actually tried dying his eybrows, but the effect was that he suddenly looked as though he didn't have any, so they left them black. What they should have done is what normal blonds have. A shade or two darker than the hair on their heads.

#128 Mar 27th, 9:36am
Celebee O'Tefeld

What they should have done is what normal blonds have. A shade or two darker than the hair on their heads.

If that's the case, the I wonder why they didn't even do that. Even looking like he has no eyebrows would be much better than making it so obvious that his hair is dyed. Those eyebrows really do look out of place. Now, I can't even look at pictures of Malfoy and not go, "Gah, that's ugly!"

In the first movie, at least his eyebrows looked normal. Now . . .

#129 Mar 29th, 2:50am
Darkwinter999

They wanted him to look evil. He looks less evil with no eyebrows. Effect is trumped by practicality and apparently reality. It's a cheap knockoff of the book, what do you expect? The whole thing is mostly just a special effects show; the story and sscript are really only to get you from one mythical creature to the next spell.

For all you nitpickers and literalists out there, I am exaggerating to vent about the shortcomings.

#130 Mar 29th, 9:45am
Duke Wisetalker

I bet even the the nitpickers/literalists agree. The whole movie is only limited to that.

#131 Mar 29th, 9:49am
Irindiglo2Parodise

Psfh the story is only there because it's called Harry Potter. The script writers give in to the audience who haven't read Harry Potter and thus they don't want to bore them...

#132 Mar 29th, 9:50am
Darkwinter999

Not one of those books was short enough to be any less than a two part movie. They cut too much for the story to be any less than a one dimentional story all about Harry.

I think we should move this to the chat thread.

Hi.

If anyone at all needs a Beta for Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto or xxxHolic, I'll give it a go.

I have one single condition though- no lemon. Yaoi/yuri I'll tollerate, but lemon makes me gag.

.....Imma gonna advertise myself too then....:D

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ginban Kaleidoscope, Harry Potter if you want a really hard piece of crit....hm....and generally quite a few anime except for Bleach, Naruto and a few you'd expect someone of my caliber to watch ;)

Conditions: No lemons, no yaoi/yuri, and no whiners. N00bs who seek help I will help - after all the first step to proness is realisation ;)

Exuberant Lemon

umm..i don't really need a Beta. well, i guess i sorta do. i just wanna know what people think of the following and if it's upload-worthy. i posted it on my fictionpress, but idk if i should remove it.

I was asleep like bricks fall into a well,

was having a dream about angels in hell.

good kids, bad place.

those parents, a disgrace.

I was appalled, look at their faces.

they yell and scream and that chases,

chases, chases away their little loves.

chase away their true hugs.

but no worries, of life, that is a part,

love awakens behind the poking pain...in your heart.

speak of the devil,

but fuck it, I'm past that level...

Well, since there are no minimum quality requiredments, I would say to leave it. I'm pretty sure I already posted what I think about this poem which is:

I don't really get it, but I don't quite get poems anyway. It sounds like it's probably pretty good and meaningful, but I just don't have the skills to rate it.

I beta for:

Naruto

InuYasha

Xiaolin Showdown and anything else I might now.

And by the way, NO M-rated stories. Or at least no lemons.

Which is why I love the new beta system. People seem to need betas, half the stories in the fandoms I visit make me want to hurl chunks. Sadly, the new system does not seem to be working . . .

I became a beta so I can try to lessen that.

Same here, I just did up my beta profile. However, I'm more interested in finding a beta reader more than advertising my services. I'll probably put in my request in my author's notes and wait for what people have to say.

I seriously need a beta, I keep feeling that my work is not up to standard and that I would like someone to go over it. I'll see if I can request a beta in the author's note in a story that I would soon be updating, hopefully some people would be able to recommend some. At least I know if someone is recommended, there is a higher chance of them being a success.
