It is the Bakumatsu, the great cival war between the Bakufu and the Ishin Shishi. Battles are waging all over the place. Spying, deciete and betrayal runs wild across the streets of Kyoto, and not all is what it seems. In Rurouni Kenshin: Bakumatsu, you play either on the side of the Ishin Shishi or on the side of the Bakufu as Ronin/Samurai, or as Onmitsu and must survive through the blooded streets of Kyoto, pr even as someone who is not a member of either drawn into the chaos that is the Bakumatsu.

Rules:

1) Please dont overpower your character. Also post your character in the Character Profiles topic for this RP topic. Please be realistic. a character cannot be shot at with a macine gun or a dousen swords and come out unscathed.

2) Don't RP another person's character unless they say you may. Also dont kill off another person's OC unless you have their permission. give the other RPer a chance to respond. If attacked, likewise, allow yourself to be hit occationally.

3) If you are unsure about anything, dont hesitate to ask.

Ryu sat down at the bar table, he was wearing a thick straw hat, that was tilted downwards to cover his features.

The bartender didn't even look up at him "what can I serve you?" he asked grudgingly as he wiped the table with a cloth.

"One sake" Ryu replied, pulling out a coin and slamming it on the table.

The bartender took the coin quickly and pulled out a small glass, pouring a small shot of sake into it.

Ryu took the glass and glopped it down.

Seishiro streached his hands above his head, yawning. He wasn't on duty right now and apparently Saito-san was buiey with some meeting with Hijikata so he wasn't needed to be in uniform. Instead he wore a simple mans kimono, his swords at his hip as usual and he stroled down the streets. It was always so much more plesent in the day time than at nights. Mind you at night the Hitokiri and the imperialists usually struck and Seishiro and his unit were on duty.

Shaking his head to push out the images, he ducked into one of the bar areas, seeing the bartender whom he knew and smiled. "Yo, Hiroshi-ojiichan! Great to see you again!"

The bartender gave Seishiro a lopsided smile "Same to you Seishiro-kun, the usual right?" he said as he poured Seishiro a drink "how's it been with the Shinsengumi?"

Ryu glanced at Seishiro from the corner of his straw hat 'Shinsengumi huh' "you must be putting those imperialists in there place right?" Ryu murmured, hiding the irony of the sentence.

Seishiro felt like smacking his head on the table. He should know not to go blabbering that around, I really dont want to fight when I'm not on duty, Its Okita-san's team's duty today..... He blinked when he heard "you must be putting those imperialists in there place right?" coming from behind and glanced out of the corner of his eye at the man with the straw hat, just catching a glimmer of his eyes. That man has dangerous eyes. He has eyes like Saito-san.... "I'm not on duty today," he said lightly. "So the only think I want 'in its place' right now is a drink, so, usual do you mind, Hiroshi-san?" He turned his attention back to the bar keep, though he kept his sences trained on the man who spoke before.

Ryu sat beside Seishiro "your senses must still be sharp even of duty though"

Hiroshi looked between the two but just handed Seishiro his drink.

Seishiro was on guard, despite his relaxed deminour. "Maybe," he said with a smile, taking the drink from the barman with a thanks. "I could say the same thing for yourself though, Samurai-san."

Ryu gave a ghostly smile from his straw hat "am I that obvious?"

Seishiro leaned back on his chair. "Its hard not to notice with a ki that high."

(Ki is like a figher energy. Aka 'Chi' depending on where you get the translation from)

(Ok)

"Tch, I was always rushy when trying to hid it" Ryu muttered his hand edging to his blade.

Seishiro noticed this. "I wouldn't do that in here," Seishiro said, sipping his drink. "I'd rather not get into a fight off duty, And it's stricktly against Shinsengumi code to start fights for personal reasons, punishment being seppuku. But if we must fight, then I'd rather do it where we wont cause mass property damage."

Ryu shrugged "I don't want to fight right now, I just get twitching near men of the shogun, why don't we go for a walk?"

Seishiro opened one eye as he looked at the other. "'Men of the shogun'? More like.....Wolves of Mibu, to use the 'insulting' term. I think 'Miburo' is quite catchy, however." He finished his drink. "Well, if you want. But dont blame me if the 'Wolf pack' come around."

Ryu grinned "I'm not as weak as you assume"

Seishiro grinned. "I'd be insulted if you were as weak as you seem to think I think," He said finally.

Ryu chuckled "come then, a walk awaits us"

Seishiro nodded, slipping his swords back into his obi again. "Of course. Lets walk then."

Ryu stood up and walked out of the bar.

Seemingly unconcerned by the fact he had a potential enemy beside him (although there was a chance he was just from a preficture around here not involved with either side, although he doubted it, Seishiro waled with his hands in his sleaves. "So, Samurai-san, what did you want to talk to me about that we would 'go for a walk?' " He asked, unconcerned.

Ryu shrugged "can't two men go for walk without a reason?"

"There's usually a reason when you concider the fact that our country is currently at war and concidering the alliances of said individuals," Seishiro said, eyes closed, but opened one eye to glance at the other to see his reaction.

Ryuu smiled "how do you know that I'm not from a preficture?"

"Your accent, for one," Seishiro ticked off. "For another, you deminour. You're far too skittish around me to be just your average Ronin either. Your accent sounds like one of the Tosa,"

(I can change it to another clan, but the Tosa were Ishin Shishi, just not as....well....extereme as the Choshu. Plus if you were choshu, Seishiro would have tried to kill you by now.)

(Ok, what other clans were there? I just wanna know)

Ryu clucked his tongue "hmm you got me, I really need to work on my covering skills"

(Ok, History lesson. Acording to my RK manga, the revolutinaries (the Ishin Shishi) were devided into five charagories acording to origens. Satsuma and Choshu (they were the most prominent and extreme apparently) then there's Tosa, Hizen and other smaller clans like Mito and Fukuoka etc. Kyoto was the capital at that time (thus why we're fighting in Kyoto) and the Shinsengumi - or the original members all came from Edo the other main city which later bacame the capital and renamed Tokyo. They are nicknamed 'Wolves of Mibu' or 'Miburo' because the Ronin made Shinsengumi in the village of Mibu.)

Seishiro snorted. "And Edo for myself. Then again, that's where most of the original members of the Shinsengumi came from."

Ryu came to a halt when they reached some abandoned streets "well I believe its time to get this over with"

Seishiro snorted. "Ah, so we are going to fight then? Wish you hadn't chosen my day off. Hope this isn't classed as a personal fight either. I'd hate to have to commit Seppuku," he said as he turned to look at him.

Ryu shook his head "we have known each other long enough for this to be personal, but I think you'll be surprised at who I am"

(since he is a part of Hitokiri he'll be famous right?)

(depends. Only ones that last more than a few months become famous)

"I'm going to take a guess your a Hitokiri," Seishiro said. "One of the ones who actually survived for over a month if yu seem to think I would know who you are. You're definitely not the Battosai. I've seen him and Saito-san fight before, and your not him. So why dont you go ahead and surprise me."

(Well I was thinking that he had been one for quite a while like 10 months)

Ryu sighed "nah I'm not the Battosai, but you maybe quiet surprised" he mumbled pulling of his straw hat and tossing it on the ground "names Hataka Ryu"

(I'm going to the pool, see ya)

"Ah, so your one of the four then. Well this'll be interesting," Seishiro said lightly, though inwardly he cursed. crap! If he's really one of the four ones then I could be in trouble. Just hope this doesn't cost me my life. However, he let none of this show either in his ki, nor in his expression or deminour. "I might as well introduce myself too. Eikura Seishiro of the third Shinsengumi unit."

"Nice to meet you Seishiro-san" he pulled out his blade, smiling lightly "lets begin ne?"

Seishiro pulled out his blade, getting into stance, his eyes watchful, body tense, yet relaxed at the same time, awaiting his move.

Ryu didn't even get into stance, his sword simply by his side "hmm I have to attack first do I?" with that he walked up to Seishiro and slashed down at him "if your wondering why I'm not running and getting into stance, is because its a waste of energy, what the point of wasting all the energy when you can save it for later" he said smiling as he did another powerful slash.

Seishiro dodged the first strike, then blocked the second one. "Maybe, but I'm not a governement official that doesn't know you're there. This is little better than a spar. Please dont bore me." And with that he sovered the blade away and thrust with a Hirazuki (Its similar to Saito's gatosu) at his chest.

(Seishiro uses Tennen Rishin Ryu but that move was one taught to all Shinsengumi members, you see according to wikipedia)

(Hirazuki is when you hold the hilt of your sword in both hands near the right shoulder parallel to the ground. You then thrust, stab, or slash downwards right?)

Ryu shiftily sidestepped out of the way and slashed at Seishiro'scollar bone "don't be in a rush, I'm just warming up"

(What techiques would Ryu know?)

(Um.....I dunno...How about Jigen-ryu? Its anagressive swordsman style characterised by one-handed draws/cuts and the use of turning?)

Seishiro's move switched directions quickly and became a block, skidding away slightly before lightly hopping back. "Who said that I was going all out?"

(Ok sure, one problem, I know squat about it..XD)

Ryu shrugged "I meant don't rush me, I like to take my time when fighting, call it lazy if you will" with that he turned clockwise, slowing bringing his sword upwards before aiming for Seishiro's elbow.

(Its just all one handed sword strikes and an agressive style. You dont have to be specific about it. I dont know much aout Sei's sword style either.....)

Seishiro quickly drew his wakazashi and blocked the blow, using a scizzor action between his katana and wakazashi to hold Ryu's blade in place. He smiled. "Oh good. If I'm going to fight a Hitokiri, I'd rather it be an interesting match."

Ryu smirked, flipping his sword so it was flat and pulling it out of the scissor between Seishiro's katana and wakazashi and jumping back "same"

((2-person RP? I'd like to join, but I haven't followed Samurai X/RuroKen since I was in grade school O.O I already told Chosha that. So I guess I'll keep out to avoid confusing you guys XD))

Seishiro smirked faintly, shifting slightly almost like a wolf prowling its prey, swords held ready, eyes watchful before he shifted forwards, then moved quicklly, parrying Ryu's sword away with the wakazashi as he thrust with the katana.

((XD I wanna join now!! Um...maybe if it helps I'll see if I can find the manga/anime on the net. I remember some of it O.O except for some reason I remember the part about that lady with the opium the most... ^///^ well, need to make a charrie anyway, so until I get that done I might not join for a while!))

Ryu stayed calm and pulled out his own wakazashi and blocking Seishiro's katana, then shifted the right bring his katana up to Seishiro's armpit.

Seishiro pushed away quickly, skidding back to avoid the sword slicking his arm off and took a step back so as to dig his heal in, then pushed forwards again, slashing at Ryu's legs to unballence him, either by shifting him out of stance or cutting his legs depending on how fast he moved before launching a kick to his stomache to knock him off even more. Finally he darted forwards again with a powerful thrust.

(Hm....Maybe I should have a Shinsengumi or maybe the mirawaragumi appear...... Just so they avoid killing each other, ne?)

(Yeah, good idea)

Ryu blocked the slash at his legs one handed, allowing him to use his other hand to block the kick, now Seishiro had removed his sword from his leg area, he too brought his sword back up and blocked the thrust "nice try..."

Suddenly there was the noise of men coming and Ryu grabbed his straw hat "it seems I have to leave.."

Seishiro jumped back too, Glancing out of the corner of his eye. "First units coming. Maybe we'll finish this some other time. Next time though....I wont lose. My pride as a Miburo on that."
