Lol.

Did you guys win? Or come second?

Well I am guessing most of you will be busy reading Breaking Dawn, *coughloser*. No, no, I would be reading it too, if I wanted to buy it.

Anyways,

I HAVE HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE KEEPING DOWN VOMIT READING IT. IT IS SERIOUSLY DISGUSTING- IN WAYS UNFATHOMANABLE TO YOU UNLESS YOU'VE READ IT. YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS ABSOLUTE SHIT! FUCKING SHIT! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT.

I CAN'T WAIT TO BURN IT AND TRIBAL DANCE AROUND IT.

Excellent! I am so glad you think it is shit, Lucy.

Oh, how I hate thee. I will join you with the burning and such.

I can't wait till I read it. It'll be so entertaining. It'll cheer me up tremendously with it's crap.

Page 360.

The most hilarious moment of my life.

Thanks, JB, for making me piss myself.

#2509 Aug 04th, 4:45am
RhiannonD

But seriously, what Lucinda's saying is true. It's not like the first three books, because I laughed at them with their corniness.

This one is just ... disturbing, and depressing and lame. I'm not even enjoying the experience of reading it. With Twilight, I was actually curious to see what happened and was caught up in the chase a bit.

With BD ... not so much. I'm forcing my way through it. It's horribly dull and stupid and vomit-worthy and karma sutra like. In the sense that I want to scream with agony at the crapness.

UNTIL - you reach page 360.

Fucking Hilarious.

Ha, I am looking forward to 360, I hope it's when Jacob Dies.

I have contracted some sort of stomach bug, makes me want to heave (quite literally). So I didn't come to school today, however, Duff can you bring Breaking Dawn for me tomorrow? Thanks.

Sarah, i do hope that you are not plaining to burn my book. because i will not give it to you, if this is your intention.

lol @ page 360. I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN! so i wasnt surprised at all. i'm proud of myself that i knew it was gunna happen, i am usually not like that. but then, that just shows how simple it is to guess what will happen, as i did with lots of things in this book.

*rolls eyes*

by the way, i finished it. it feels good that i'll be getting back to Locke Lamora now.

First, let me appologize for being a n00b.

That said, I recently discovered the FanFiction website, and am enjoying it a lot.

I have, however, been having problems with some of the acronyms that are being used. I am sure that new people are always asking for info on stuff that is obvious to you regulars, so if you could just post the link to to place where all of my n00b questions can be answered, I would appriciate it.

P. S. I am a Huge Buffy fan, as well as a Harry Potter fan!

#2514 Aug 05th, 3:11am
RhiannonD

Hello fellow (haha, nvm) Buffy/HP fan and user of the term 'n00b'.

Of what acronyms do you speak? Because, we could probably help you ... I don't know.

Do you mean words like 'ship', 'canon', 'AU', 'lemon' (lol), 'OC', 'OOC', 'J/L', 'oneshot', 'D/H', 'R/Hr', 'drabble', 'slash', 'femslash' (ew) and other things like this? Like, fanfiction terms? Because I'm pretty sure I know all of those. If I can't figure them out, that's pretty n00by of me.

Also, if you enjoy fanfictions and have read the abomination that is "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer (worst crap ever written ... in some peoples' opinions) - you should check out this guys work: http://www.fanfiction.net/~Belts - he's a genius.

#2515 Aug 05th, 3:42am . Edited Aug 05th, 3:44am
RhiannonD

Hey you guysss, since I've now finished that shite book (a huge weight is off my chest ... well, not really, but I'm glad it's over - who wants to burn the book with me?) I have been having fun with my iPod and new iTunes! I'm getting all the downloady-ness happening ...

Ensemble and lessons are cancelled tomorrow which makes me feel a whole lot better about wagging, not that it's wagging because I'm genuinely sick feeling. My voice is all nasally, and, as Dimity said, sounds "similar to Neville's when he got his nose broken in OotP" (Dimity, 2008: 45).

That's not actually a direct quote. Harvard referencing was not necessary. Also, I didn't use her surname and had to invent a page number.

So ... there won't be anything to miss tomorrow, will there, should I still be feeling under the weather?

Everyone who's finished reading that piece of shit that goes by the name of Breaking Dawn, I have created a new topic so we can rant about the shitness without revealing any shit spoilers for everyone else who has yet to experience the shit. Go there!

And ... there is a sentence in the book that rivals page 360 for hilarity.

#2516 Aug 05th, 3:48am
Iocosa

Yes. Those are the acronyms/terms that i need help with. to be honest, I don't know what ANY of the ones you listed mean.

To quote you on it...

RhiannonD said:

I am new to reading fanfiction, but already enjoy it a lot.

If you could help me with those acronyms/terms, I would be very greatful.

#2517 Aug 05th, 4:28am
RhiannonD

Okay, sweet. I love explaining things. Here we go:

ship: short for "relationship" but can be used in other contexts, eg. "I ship Ron and Hermione" (ie, 'I support that relationship'). Or you could say, "The Harry/Hermione ship has sunk", or "I no longer ship Dumbledore/Grindlewald" or "The Harry/Ginny ship is a good ship to sail upon" or anything equally gay.

canon: the original text, the opposite of fanfiction. Someone writes a fanfiction where Snape is Harry's father, and a reviewer says, "Hey, that totally isn't canon!" or "That doesn't fit with canon!" meaning it doesn't corroborrate with the original text.

AU: stands for Alternate Universe. So, a HP fanfic where no one is magical, or where Snape is Harry's father, or something else entirely incongruous happens.

lemon: haha, this just means a sex scene, I believe. Eg, "This fanfiction has a very exciting lemon coming up!" or "I love lemons!" or "Look out, this chapter is rated M because of the lemons!" But these fanfictions are also called smut, or something similar I'm guessing. In general, just try to stay away from anything M rated. I've had bad experiences (haha, Meredith, the couch one ... eurgh.)

OC: original character - when some lame fool makes up their own character to put in a story. Usually this character is a n00b. So, someone might say, "This fanfiction has in it Harry, Hermione, Ron and an OC!"

OOC: out of character - pretty self-explanatory. A story where the characters are nothing like the characters in canon.

J/L: this is just an abbreviation for James/Lily. There are pretty much abbreviations for all ships, so H/G for Harry/Ginny, H/Hr for Harry/Hermione (eurgh), B/A for Buffy/Angel (or Bangel, sometimes people make up words like this ...). In general, you probably just have to guess what stands for what. D/H is Draco/Harry and R/Hr is Ron/Hermione.

oneshot: a story that is one chapter long and is complete and will never be added to.

drabble: a story with no meaning or plot, just a useless rambling stream-of-consciousness thing.

slash: male on male. The good stuff. No, I'm joking (but not really). This just applies to anything with homosexuals in it, "Don't read this fanfiction if you don't like D/H slash!"

femslash: the same, but female on female.

I'm pretty sure there are, like a million more ff terms that are out there, but this is just what I can remember.

You guys are probably looking at me weirdly because I actually know what these words mean. But really, it's not that difficult to figure out. Just ask Lucinda - she was there when I intelligently deduced the meaning of the Portuguese word "morte" in about one second by looking at the Latin and Greek roots. That was very intelligent of me, wasn't it Nana Lucinda?

#2518 Aug 05th, 6:02am
RhiannonD

Wait, I thought of another good one!

Mary Sue: an OC that is totally typical of your average crappy fanfiction. So, in HP fanfics, I believe the Mary Sue is the girl who is new to Hogwarts and is an exchange student from America. Just basically, a character invented by a random ff author - and the character has zero depth, little to no characterisation and development ... you can just tell that this character is a Mary Sue. Or, if it's male, there's a different name that rhymes with Mary Sue, but I can't remember it.

#2519 Aug 05th, 6:06am
RhiannonD

So anyway, Iocosa, where are you from? Like, what country? And what are your favourite books and stuff aside from HP/BtVS?

We are all from Australia, and although we use this forum I wouldn't exactly call us fanfiction regulars ... it's been a while since I've actually read a fanfiction - we basically come on the site for the forum alone. It's a very good way to communicate.

Having said that, I am still very knowledgeable when it comes to the world of fanfiction, knowledgeable enough to know that it's all pretty much crap. There are so many ff.net authors out there that must learn basic grammar.

#2520 Aug 05th, 6:11am
Iocosa

First of all, Thank You for the help. It realy does clear a lot of things up. Lemon does not mean what I had guessed it meant at all. I figured it meant that it was like B - Movie type (written so badly some people are entertained by it). Same thing for slash. I figured it meant it was just being mean to certain characters. That could have been embarassing.

As for where I am from, I am in Idaho,USA. For those of you who don't know where that is, it is in the NorthWest area of the US. We have very wildly changeing weather here. In the summer, it gets up over 100F , and in the winter it can get well below freezeing.

As for what I enjoy reading, I like mostly Science Fiction or Fantasy. Please note, two seperate generes. I just happen to like both of them. Some of my favorite authors include: J. K. Rowling, (duh) Anne McCafferry, Issac Asimov, Terry Brooks, J. R. R. Tolkien, just to name a few.

On TV, I enjoy watching a lot of different kinds of stuff. Just about any of the popular sitcoms. The Simpsons, Stargate SG1 (NOT Atlantis), Charmed, M.A.S.H., Bones, many different things off of the Discovery Channel.

I'm also a World of Warcraft player.

Above ALL else, I am a PEPSI addict.

#2521 Aug 05th, 7:22pm
Iocosa

One thing that I think would be VERY cool. If J. K. Rowling and Joss Wheadon were to colaberate on a project. I can't even imageine what their minds might come up with.

#2522 Aug 05th, 8:13pm
Cinda Scissorhands

Indeed Rhiannon, I was quite impressed. 'Morte'- you intelligently deducted this meaning. From this one meaning that you had found lingering in your mind, you applied it to the text you were reading, creating an entirely logical word that fit within the context.

I do hope you are feeling better.

Anyway, I've pursued my passion for learning about eras/art/music that was on the list. :]

Today, I learnt about the baroque era.

Did you know that opera was invented in 1575 by a group called Camerata? The group included Vincezo Galilei- father of Galileo.

Awesome.

I've finished that piece of shit as well.

(Y)

It was as expected. Utterly predictable.

Oh, yes. Hello Iocosa!

You sound interesting. It's nice to have someone else on here.

#2524 Aug 05th, 11:26pm
RhiannonD

Lucinda, das ist wunderbar! I did not know that little snippet of information about Galileo's dad. I do, however, know that Galileo Galilei was involved with something to do with auroras, and he lived in the same era as Isaac Newton.

Guess what, you guys - the Amazon.com people just emailed me and said they would be providing a video camera for my trip, they want me to film random footage of packing and leaving the airport and shit, and then of reading the book and everything so that they can put it on their website ... wtp? Though, I guess this could be quite fun - since I won't have some bogan man filming it, I can control it myself. Maybe I'll put The Amusement War music in the background. Also, when I am reading the Beedle, there is going to be a professional photographer there to take pictures - so at least I'll have some evidence that I actually read it. AND - the Amazon people want me to keep a blog over the weekend to comment on the book and everything. Sweet.

Did I miss anything at school today?

Iocosa, I too agree that it would be awesome if JKR and Joss Whedon could collaborate on something ... I always wanted him to direct HP7, that way it would be JKR's genius writing etc mixed with Joss Whedon's superior directing skills and trademark wit - because he should also write the screenplay.

You're addicted to Pepsi - as in the drink? Wtp? Okay. I enjoy drinks, also ... such as water. Tea. Yes.

Here in Australia, we also suffer extreme temperatures, very often above 100F which I'm think is about 38C ... but in winter it doesn't get very cold. It generally stays warm during the day, because it stays sunny. It rains very rarely. Once, it rained in winter - actually, that was a few weeks ago. And it was the most horrible experience of my life. Wet and cold.

#2525 Aug 06th, 12:21am
Iocosa

Always great to meet some new friends.

As for the Pepsi addiction thing, it realy is my only major vice. I don't smoke. I don't drink alcohol exept 3-4 times a year, and then only like one mixed drink. Pepsi, however, I drink to excess. For a long time, that meant 20-24 cans (12oz cans) per day. If I hadn't started to become diabetic, I would still be drinking that much. now I'm down to 2-3 cans a day, and wow, those widthdrawels were the pits.

Please forgive my ignorance, but is does Austrailia use Metric?

Can you catch me up on what you are talking about with the Amazon.com thingy? Just the brief version.

One more thing. What does "wtp" mean?

#2526 Aug 06th, 1:46am
Cinda Scissorhands

Everyone- read The Amusement War's bulletin post.

#2527 Aug 06th, 1:52am
Cinda Scissorhands

Actually, don't go on there. I didn't post it.

Wtp is an abbreviation for 'what the puck'.

Puck, obviously, is another word for 'fuck'.

Puck originated from Midsummer Night's Dream.

Yes, Australia uses metric.

Is anyone interested in a partime job in a local cafe?

BECUASE I QUIT MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FUCK! This feels good. I never wanted to work in a cafe anyway, though I have become quite skilled in it. This morning I was just so exausted and I'm sick of waking up on saturaday morning and thinking fuck I have lots of homework, then having to get up and go to work. I'm sick of feeling like butter stretched over too much bread, everywhere I turn I dissapoint someone, and i'm over it. I'm stating again. I got up and I said to dad "I don't want to work at the the Cafe today, I have a shitload of homework and on top of that i'm exhausted" and he called me a lazy coward and lectured me about letting people down and not facing up to your responsibilities. Then I gave him a really filthy look and said "If I was a lazy coward I wouldn't do this" then I picked up the phone and all the while looking at him called Tash and said that I didn't want to work for her anymore, thanks very much.

And now I feel good. I walked into my room and shut the door and put on Fallout Boy really loud and danced like a crazy, adreneline filled angry person, screaming "OH SO INTO CATS!" at the top of my lungs.

And Emily- I know i'm currently screwed for the Europe trip, but i'll deal with that later, i've been depressed about that job for months, but now I just feel shitted off about it, i've had enough. I'm not organised enough to work two jobs, play the cello, be in Pandora, get As in every subject, heck, I was evn playing tennis there for a while.

I'M OVER IT.

But i'm FUCKING happy. And now i'm organised as well, Jesus I feel HAPPY.

*Sigh* See Arika and Rhiannon dog at Arikas tomorrow at 12?

WHAHA HA HA HA WHA HA!

Wow. I wish I could do that. I had the shittest day at work yesterday. I was reduced to tears. Quite literally. There is just so much shit going on right now and work just threw me over the edge. But I feel a little better now that I got it all off my chest. I wish I could quit. Oh the feeling of shoving that in Sharon's face. It would be a very dramatic awesome event. I will invite you all the day I do it.

I really want to see The Dark Knight before it leaves the cinema! Who hasn't seen it and when are you free?

Go Meredith! You defy that system!

Now that you have no job, we can get right into writing that bestseller. Millions and millions of dollars will be ours, millions and millions of idiotic fangirls will succumb to our shit writing. They'll be like, "WOW! I was so heartbroken when Twilight ended, now I have a new amazing novel to enjoy!" But it will really be a piece of shit. I was thinking our story should be the love story of Dimity and Domono. With names changed for publishing reasons.

I don't have a job, never have had a job, and you know what?

I FEEL GOOD! (duh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh!) I knew that I would, yeah! (Duh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh!) I FEE-EEL GOOD! (Duh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh!) I knew that I would! (Duh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh!) SO GOOD! (Uh, uh!) SO GOOD! (Uh!) I GOT - YOU! (uh uh uh UH UH!) WOOOOOOOOOOOO!
