Topic: Rick the Stalker - Huh?
Okay, so I've been wondering about something for a while, and I wondered if anyone here could enlighten me. I've seen it stated in a lot of different places that, throughout the game, Rick is pursuing a completely uninterested Karen to the point of stalking. Having finally triggered all the Karen x Rick events through to their wedding, I just have to say: huh?

Rival Heart Event #1: Rick goes to the pond to mope about his absent father and having to watch his mother pine and be miserable, Karen follows him and cheers him up. Where is the stalking?

Rival Heart Event #2: Karen and Rick are going for a walk in the woods. They start to reminisce. Karen gets pissy about something and storms away. Rick is Confused. Where is the stalking?

Rival Heart Event #3: Karen gets attacked by a wild dog, Rick intervenes and gets his hand sliced open. Karen goes all angry-protective, and yells at him for putting himself in danger. Finally relents and thanks him. Where is the stalking?

Rival Heart Event #4: Karen is visiting Rick at the Poultry Farm, and while they're chatting, Lillia comes out and asks them when they're going to get married. Both respond with "!" or something similar, then proceed to get married a week later. Where is the stalking?

Meanwhile, if you woo Karen in the boy game, Rick doesn't even appear, let alone show any jealousy whatsoever. If you marry Rick in the girl game, he doesn't even mention her, aside from telling you that she's a nice person. Ooh, what a monster. :P

Then I started to wonder, is it in the game-play? After all, I've heard it argued that Elli is a heartless...not-so-nice lady because someone had her randomly wander away while they were trying to give her something, so clearly nothing is too wacko to be someone's evidence for stuff that didn't happen. :)

So, let's look at all the times that Karen and Rick are in the same place, outside of heart events.

Rick goes to the Supermarket each morning, to do some shopping for his mother. Karen comes out and joins him on the benches for a couple hours of quality buddy-time. Now, it's true that this is a lot of time to spend around one place, especially for a character in this game. But there is no sign that Karen is spending this time with Rick against her will. If she didn't want to see him, she wouldn't. Does Karen seem like the sort of girl who can be forced into spending time with a guy she hates? Maybe it's just my version that has a spine.

Rick goes to the bar each evening. Karen joins him on Tuesday and Sunday evenings (somehow meaning that she is an alcoholic, while the frickin' half of the town who shows up every night and stays until closing are just fine, but that's beside the point). Again, I'm just not seeing the part where Rick is stalking her. If anything, I would charge him with being woefully neglectful of the poor girl. I guess that's the problem with having to do four people's jobs on his own, and spending every spare second fretting over either his mother's health or his sister's affinity for men that remind him of his irresponsible idiot of a father.

All in all, I just don't get it, and strongly suspect that those who experienced Rick stalking their Pwecious Wittle Karen were playing this game while under the influence of some illegal substance. Thank-you, and good evening. :)

This is probably how people (Stupid people, but people nonetheless) think about it...or maybe just how I think about it in their shoes (Uh oh):

Rival Heart Event #1: Karen starts the stalking in this one. :D

Rival Heart Event #2: Rick is confused because he didn't know where Karen went and wants to stalk her.

Rival Heart Event #3: Rick FOLLOWED Karen, and upon seeing her getting attacked intervenes and gets his hand sliced open.

Rival Heart Event #4: Rick followed Karen around for a week, and stalking her, until she just decided to marry him.

And in the boy game, Rick is secretly plotting 59 ways to murder you and win Karen over again. BWAMWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha....ha.................ha.............sorry. :P

Hee! It's just very, very secretly. Who knew Rick was such a good supervillain? >:D

Geez...now I want to write a story where Rick and Karen team up to take over the world. What can I say? I think they'd be cute in capes and spandex. :D :D :D

Hahaha. And their theme song can be the Team Rocket one from Pokemon...and a chicken can be Meowth. (Haha, Pokemon fan here! :D)

Also......since you know what days Karen goes to the bar, and when she hangs out with Rick............................I'm beginning to think that YOU'RE stalking her! I would rather stalk Mary or Ann or Popuri....or Elli................................or everybody. That would be fun. >:)

I should post a new topic about which character you would want to stalk. Haha.

Okay, you got me; I've been stalking Rick AND Karen (and Elli, and Gotz, and Won - which was pretty uneventful, aside from the revelation that he apparently shares a bed with Zack) since I started playing the game. :D

What can I say? Sometimes I get bored of farming. ^^;;

they should make a harvest moon game where they can get restraining orders.....

"Try to stalk me NOW!"

Karen joins him on Tuesday and Sunday evenings (somehow meaning that she is an alcoholic, while the frickin' half of the town who shows up every night and stays until closing are just fine, but that's beside the point).

Three words: Harvest Moon 64. Karen is constantly in the wine cellar and she gets drunk in drinking contests with Duke(I think it's Duke?) to the point where Kai has to walk her home.

I don't understand stalker!Rick either. At the moment, I'm stalking him, waiting for the day when I can buy the double bed and therefore marry my chicken boy. ;) Karen's really into him, but the thing is, stupid players can't fathom how a pretty girl can have a crush on a guy who wears *gasp* GLASSES! ZOMG! In all actuality, Rick is good looking, and as a girl, I think I have a right to think so. And I find the childhood sweetheart thing too gosh darn cute--it makes me think of my kiddie romance, where you have to keep a safe distance to avoid cooties. :3

Rick is just too stressed with all the work he has to do to consider marriage at this point. Or he's considered it, but doesn't have time to ensure Karen a happy future (a reason that Karen would no doubt declare stupid, because she could always help out at the shop or on the farm if necessary).

Ahaha, if the games could allow restraining orders, I'd be banned from the library (for offering Mary honey constantly) and Lillia's house (for giving Poppy and Lillia flowers and Rick his spa-poached eggs). XD

If any one asks- I was never here.

I don't think Rick is a stalker- I don't think Rick is a bad looking guy. I'm eventually going to update my fanart with my cool Rick picture and maybe everyone else will think the same thing ;) ( but I still love Gray the most- just to set things straight)

stupid players can't fathom how a pretty girl can have a crush on a guy who wears *gasp* GLASSES

I disagree. I don't have a problem with his glasses. Or Mary's (I think Mary is the best looking girl in the game(not to mention one of the better personalities)- between us. Just because Rick isn't in my top two guys, doesn't mean I think he's gross. He actually looks really cool with a pony tail- *waves fanart around to show off* I just can't deny my love for Gray and Kai- it must be the hat and bandanna- sweat bands aren't really my thing :P

Now- all this being said, I do like to think that Rick has stalker abilities- after all, how does he know when Kai and Popuri are together all the time? I don't think that he's good at it- but I think its funny. I can imagine a Looney Tunes scene with the bush that follows you as the extent of Rick's stalking abilities. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can see Rick as stalker-ish when it comes to comedy, but as far as psycho stalking- its hard to see if you keep him in character.Now- I'm returning back into my hide away to try to fight the writer's block that has been kicking my butt for forever now. Wish me luck ^^

It's the new stereotype.

Blondes - ditz

People who wear black - Goth

People with glasses and braces - Nerds

People who like chickens, have glasses, and wish the best for their younger sister (An added bonus if the name is 'Rick') - Crazy physco stalker.

It just adds up.

Ah, gotcha. I failed twelfth-grade math, so that's probably why I don't get it. It sounds like the weird, theoretical stuff they start teaching you when they run out of stuff that you'll use. :)

Ooh! Ooh! I has some new stereotypes!

** and moaning continuously about one's problems instead of sensibly trying to solve them and move on with life - ZOMG DEEP and THE ONLY CHARACTERS WORTH WRITING ABOUT!!!

Actually moving on with life instead of the aforementioned continuous ** and moaning - ZOMG SHALLOW and STOP WRITING ABOUT THEM B4 I KILLZ JOO!

I KILLZ JOO!

...killz joo? wait, KILL THE JEWS? AHHHH! :O

Something I just noticed: There are hardly any black people in the Harvest Moon games! Most are white! HSDJHDFJFH. :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Well, it is a proven fact (in the same way that Gray being nightly violated by his grandfather, or May being nightly violated by hers, is a proven fact) that Rick actually hates Kai because he's a filthy racist, but he's just really bad at it and Personally, I think he hates Kai based on what he found Kai doing to the chickens that one night (as long as I'm stuck firmly in the realm of Making Things Up), but I guess there are usually huge gaps between What Rhianwen Thinks and The Way Things Are. ^.^

O-kay! Posted before finishing my thought.

Yes. Rick the Filthy Racist. He is, indeed, apparently a filthy racist, but he's very bad at it, and sort of misses.

Either that, or they just didn't let us see the many scenes in which Rick oppressed Greg the Incidental Fisherman. ^^;;

Yes. I'M KEEPING AN EYE ON YOU AND THE CHICKENS, KAI!! -Shakes fist-

Although Rick should be one to talk....O_O

Yup, the scenes with Rick violating the chickens were right up there in canonicity with Ann enjoying her vacuum cleaner in an intimate way, the scene with Basil shagging the houseplants, and the many, many scenes with Jack violently sodomizing his cattle. Barley used to be involved in the same, but his old bones just can't take the exertion anymore. For that matter, Barley clearly cares a lot about May, and mentions her often. OH MY GOD! GET THAT POOR CHILD AWAY FROM THAT SICK PEDOPHILE!!!!

Have you ever wondered about the mayor and that photographer? I always wondered what purpose the photographer served...

And May isn't exactly a 'poor' child...think of what she does to the trash you get from fishing!

We could make a whole list on the sick things Mineral Town has done:

1) Violating chickens

2) Shagging houseplants

3) Getting intimate with vacuum cleaner

Etc, etc...

Call the police, Mineral Town is going crazy!

Harris is the police...what's he doin'?! Slacking on his duties...if his father wasn't the mayor, he'd be fired immediately.

You know what, Harris is probably writing fanfiction. That's gotta be his excuse.

He probably has a fanfiction account, and is reading every little bit of this conversation!

Harris is the police...what's he doin'?!

He's probably enjoying some alone-time with his photos of Aja. Either that, or he's frequenting the leather bar that one Miss Nancy Makuhari moved to Mineral Town to open. He was quite surprised to find out just how good little Elli looks in leather straps, even if she ran away, horrified, when she found out that the Cardio Pole-Dancing lessons she signed up for were conducted in front of an audience.

Ahh, fanfiction. If he's not careful, someone's going to find all his self-insert Aja lemons.
