RisanFTopic: Flubs in Development of the Abby/Cree Relationship? In Season 2 of Codename: Kids Next Door, there was bad blood established between Abby and her older sister Cree. When Operation: S.P.A.C.E. aired, an over-the-top martial arts fight broke out between the two, which was only broken by a seemingly heartfelt speech from about good sister/sister relationships. This seems to have broken through Abby and Cree, who hug nad launch into mushy talk. Of course, all of this turns out to be a load of horse dung, as Abby and Cree are still trying to kill each other, and Mushi is revealed to be sly and somewhat two-faced. (a role that, in the future, will be expanded on so much that Mushi now appears to the audience as a straight-out villain)This is a common practice in comedy shows of all types; lampooning warm-and-fuzzy moments. Sure, it can make for some laughs every once and awhile, but all in all it's a bit of a cynical approach. Comedy shows may ignore this, but warm-and-fuzzy moments are what give characters heart, and when they lampoon this, they're telling us we shouldn't care about the characters so much. Which leads to another problem, come Season 5. Because in Operation: M.A.U.R.I.C.E., it's revealed that Abby and Cree really did have a warm-and-fuzzy relationship, which is made doubly sad by Cree joining the teenagers. This means all the so-called horse-dung from S.P.A.C.E. actually has credence, meaning that if Abby and Cree ever reconcile, they would have to have a real warm-and-fuzzy moment. So which one is it, Codename: Kids Next Door? Is the Abby/Cree sisterhood something we shouldn't take seriously, or is it the real deal? Perhaps this is nothing to worry about. After all, Codename: Kids Next Door has the unique cartoon talent of being able to have genuine warm-and-fuzzy moments while lampooning them at the same time. However, the show also makes up a lot of material as if goes along, and I wonder if the emotional continuity might be getting hurt along the way. What do you think? | #1 Sep 13th 2007, 6:57am .
