Topic: Jacen's flagship. The Valiant.
Jacen stood aboard the command deck of the Assault frigate MK.II, the Valiant, he had just listened to the recording that kunai had left for him, and was still recovering from the shock. He had 60,000 men under his command and nearly thirty jedi hopefuls to train. He pondered this for a moment and then turned to Tanalia who was standing motionless behind him.

"I have a proposition for you, Most of the troops here are elite class, however there are about 270 new recruits flung into the mix. I would like to ask you, would you join my fleet as a drillmaster, you'd be in charge of training the troops. I can give you the rank of Major General, and the pay is good as well as a bonus if you train them well?"

(a link with rank structure. Jacen is an admiral YAY!!!)

Staggered, all Tanalia could do was stare at the Jedi. She could not believe it - what did he know of her qualifications and skills? How could he know she was competent in troop training, that she had been a trainer before she forged out on her own for the Mistryl sisterhood?

Taking a moment to glance out at the fleet, Tanalia took a deep breath. "That...would be acceptable...but..." she hesitated, wondering how much she could get out of this offer and almost too embarrassed to ask the next question.

It had been her dream, ever since she was little, to own her own ship. Not just a freighter or fighter - the one she had flown before wasn't even hers but belonged to the Sisterhood - but a capital size ship. The Mistryl had been well on her way to saving up for one, had even found a holocron that was so rare, she was sure that it would more than pay for two capital ships.

But then Choquet D'Var had stolen it from her.

"I must refuse your offer," replied the Mistryl suddenly, setting her jaw against the protests that arose in her mind. "My...desire for revenge would get in the way of the duties you would require me to perform."

"Revenge huh, if you don't mind me asking, who is your revenge set against?"

Tanalia hesitated, wondering if she should tell him. She had only known him for a day, if that. Not enough time for him to be trusting her or vice versa.

Yet, he had offered this position as if he knew her well. Why?

"Why do you trust me so much, Jedi?"

"Because I can see your emotion and your heart through the force, it is an ancient force ability that allows a jedi or sith to see the alignment of the person they're viewing. On the surface of Ossus I used this same sight to see you. You may be cold on the exterior, but through the force I saw that you could be trusted. And besides Why not you are capable, you are trustworthy enough for me."

As extraordinary as this sounded, her experience with Choquet D'Var reminded her that practically anything was possible with the force. However, that still didn't make her trust this Jedi. "Unfortunately, I do not have this power that you do," Tanalia replied. "I cannot see your mind, nor your capabilities. However, I might in time. If you have no objection, I will observe you for a time and then decide whether I wish to join you and your fleet."

"Excellent, lets be off then." Jacen turned to the navigation officer and nodded to him. he nodded in turn and prepared the fleet for launch. With a loud yet playful cry Jacen shouted.

"Alright lets go to Sluis Van!"

And with the sound of engines roaring the fleet jumped into hyperspace.

Jacen let Tanalia have free roam of the ship while he made his way to find the wayward jedi candidates and begin their training. He found them easy enough, and brought them to a large square room, he told them to sit on the floor while he began to explain the Force, and the History of the Jedi and Sith, answering questions politely whenever asked.

Feeling awkward, the Mistryl paced the corridors of the flagship, avoiding contact with the crew members and fleet personnel. At one point, she found a viewing area and crossed to the wide window looking out at the rest of the fleet traveling through hyperspace alongside. One vessel caught her gaze, an assault frigate.

Just the sight brought back fond memories of her childhood, when Tanalia listened to tales of pirates and treasures. Her favorite story had been one told of the ghost ship Sunblade and how it haunted the outer rim, appearing to steal from unprotected colonies and estates of retired Republic senators.

Jacen finished the lesson on History and proceeded to have them meditate for an hour. He told them to meditate and then they were free for a little while. Jacen then proceeded to walk along the corridors, wandering aimlessly.

He pondered what he'd do now, he figured that he'd attack pirates at random and loot what they carry for credits. After a little walking he spotted Tanalia staring out of the viewport. Slowly he walked until he was beside her and stared out into the viewport as well.

"Ha, this is the last place I thought I'd ever find myself. My life plan was to finish training Taalfar and then travel the galaxy helping where I could and moving on, but now I have men under my command. They look to me as their leader, I only hope that I don't disappoint."

Tanalia looked over at him. "It seems that your men are as trusting as you are. Perhaps you should do something to earn their respect."
#11 Dec 14th 2007, 11:09am
Grey-wolf David
"They are trusting, but the problem is earning that trust, I won't put them purposefully in danger just to earn their trusr. If I did that I'd be no better than the imperials. What would you do hmm?"
#12 Dec 14th 2007, 11:16am
InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
Thinking it over, the Mistryl shrugged. "No gains without risk. How else are you going to gain their respect?" She raised a cynical brow. "Play sabaac? Challenge each one of them to saber duels? Form a plan, consider it carefully, and execute it."
#13 Dec 14th 2007, 11:44am
Grey-wolf David
"Your point is duly noted." Jacen pondered it for a moment before speaking again. "I hear Mistryl are excellent hand to hand fighters, I myself have studied a bit of echani and other forms, care for a friendly spar until we reach Sluis Van?"
#14 Dec 14th 2007, 11:46am
InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
Tanalia considered.

She was getting rusty after weeks of being stuck on Ossus. Just because she had been working hard and stealing from the ruins didn't mean anyone had caught her and forced her to fight hand to hand.

"Very well."

#15 Dec 14th 2007, 2:04pm
Grey-wolf David
"Follow me then." Jacen then proceeded to lead her to a large dojo-like room. Once indside he removed his jedi cloak and armor leaving him in only a plain shirt and pants.

He bowed respectfully to Tanalia and settled into a fighting stance.

(Inu just for info, Jacen is not a pushover, he may win, he may not, but he will be tough either way)

Tanalia removed her jacket, revealing the grey tank top/vest she wore underneath. Tugging her headband to make sure it was tight enough, she breathed in slowly, easing herself into the stance: left foot forward, right foot back, knees bent, left palm out, right fist held close to rib cage.

Then waited.

#17 Dec 14th 2007, 2:30pm
Grey-wolf David
Jacen eyed her warily before charging, he punched only for her to block, he jumped back before she could counter, he charged and fell back again, circling and using minimum strength to probe her defenses

InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
Hmmm... only light punches. Perhaps he does have leadership capabilities after all. Tanalia's eyes narrowed as she barely dodged another blow, restricting her speed to the level high enough above his to avoid them. She continued on the defensive, waiting for him to commit, scoping out his forms of attack.
#19 Dec 14th 2007, 4:04pm
Grey-wolf David
Jacen continued probing her defenses until he decided enough was enough. He feinted a right hook before switching to a hard round house increasing his speed to the max temporarily for a sudden strike.

InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
His fist caught her directly in the forehead, but she moved with the blow and flipped backwards. The Mistryl landed with a wobble, crouching and planting her fist on the deck before her, letting the stars wane from her vision before making a further move.
#21 Dec 14th 2007, 4:16pm
Grey-wolf David
Jacen charged forward and proceeded to scope out her defenses, only this time moving slightly faster and putting a little more power into his attacks.
#22 Dec 14th 2007, 4:20pm
InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
He charged at her, his speed increasing, but Tanalia kept her cool until the Jedi was nearly right over her, then burst from her crouching position, wrapping her arms around his waist, shoulder to his midsection. She bent backward, lending aid to his momentum and he tumbled over her shoulder, falling to the deck on his back.

The Mistryl whirled and assumed the fighting stance again, satisfaction entering her mind.

#23 Dec 14th 2007, 4:27pm
Grey-wolf David
Jacen hit the ground and rolled into a crouch before charging again, this time not directly charging at her but instead engaging and backing off only to engage again.
#24 Dec 14th 2007, 4:29pm
InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
Now, the Jedi pulled hit and run tactics, punching here, retreating. Then, punching there, retreating.

Once again, Tanalia remained on the defensive, admitting to herself that the Jedi was good but she kept up with him very well. His next right straight brushed against her cheek; as he withdrew his fist, Tanalia fell back on her hands, hooked one foot under his back ankle and pulled sharply.

His shift of weight backwards served to pitch him completely over so the back of his head met the deck with a loud clunk.

Surprised to find herself breathing hard, the Mistryl brought herself up into a kneeling position, waiting for him to rise.

Jacen rose as he too was starting to tire. Jacen walked slowly over to Tanalia and threw his arm out offering to help her up.

"It was fun sparring you, however if my estimation is correct we'll be arriving at Sluis Van soon".

InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
She accepted his hand, and stood. "Understood. What will you be doing on Sluis Van?"

"I have a contact there, he has some information for me, so I'm stopping by."

Jacen went to a nearby locker and pulled out a large cloak before throwing it over himself. It was completely black and went to his thighs while covering most of his face. He then took a bamboo hat and adorned it to his face, now completely covering himself.

He nodded to Tanalia and began walking to the shuttle bay.

InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
Tanalia followed him. "On your way, why don't you drop me off at a troop transport? Before I agree or turn down your offer, I want to see the people I would be training..."
#29 Dec 16th 2007, 4:52pm
Grey-wolf David
"Understood, once we arrive at the hanger I'll get you a transport to the ships the troops are on." The hanger was bustling with activity as crews went back and forth preparing and fixing things. Jacen found the lieutenant in charge of the hanger and had him prepare a Transport for Tanalia.

He nodded to her and stepped into his own shuttle, and maneuvered it out of the hanger and into Sluis Van's atmosphere.

InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
Settling into the copilot's seat, Tanalia watched as her escort raised the small shuttle off the deck and out of the shielded bay. They flew through the fleet and Tanalia couldn't help but take another glance at the assault frigate.

"Here we are," announced the pilot, pointing toward a pair of troop transports ahead.

#31 Dec 16th 2007, 5:02pm
Grey-wolf David
Jacen landed his shuttle in the hanger and immediately a team of medics were awaiting him, he handed the two to them and they rushed off to the medical ward with Jacen right behind them.

When the shuttle landed, Tanalia exited to find they were in a large landing bay turned into a training hall. Drill sergeants bellowed at separate ranks of men in full uniform. As she watched, one led his men in marching around the perimeter.

"What good will that do?" the Mistryl muttered aloud. Striding over, she stood in the path of the marching men. "ARTILLARY!" she yelled at them. "WHAT DO YOU DO? YOU'RE BEING SHELLED!"

Confusion lit each face but a few of the quick ones ceased marching and hit the deck. The rest caught on and followed suit. With a tutting sound, Tanalia shook her head. "SPREAD OUT WHEN YOU DO THAT, IDIOTS! ALL IT TAKES IS A PROTON SHELL SMACK IN THE CENTER AND YOU'RE ALL OUT!" Shaking her head, she turned and walked away, musing that if she did take the job, it would be difficult with these clods.

Jacen looked down at the two sleeping teens before him, they had made a successful recovery and were due to awake in several hours. As he stared at them he began a conversation in his mind.

Who am I, I am Jacen Farrelle Gray Jedi knight. What does it mean to be a Gray jedi? A gray jedi is to be emotionless at all times, they must never let their emotions rule their judgment. But does that mean being ignorant to the suffering of kids like these two? Jacen wasn't sure how to answer. "No, no more, I won't continue to ignore this anymore!"

Jacen began to throw things around using the Force, remembering the pain the kids were exhibiting through the force, their sorrow anguish and pure raw pain. He couldn't take it, things were now violently being thrown around, avoiding the two teens.

He faintly heard someone calling for Tanalia for some reason or another. He didn't care, he felt tears at his eyes but ignored it as he vented his pain and frustration into the force.

Following the lieutenant down the corridor, Tanalia wondered why they had asked her to come to the assault frigate when they barely knew who she was.

"At first, we thought it was an attack. Then, we noticed his expression and decided it was him," explained the lieutenant, coding the keypad to open the med-bay. "Musta had something to do with the two kids he brought on board." He raised an eyebrow as the doors swished open. "They're giants, but still kids."

Entering the bay, the Mistryl found Jacen throwing things around without moving. She rolled her eyes. "What's this? A force tantrum? Way to gain respect, Jedi."

#35 Dec 17th 2007, 7:36pm
Grey-wolf David
Finally the storm broke, and Jacen settled down, he just sat there, staring at the children, all the while muttering to himself "How long have I been ignorant to the pain, how long have I been so foolish."

He knew he shouldn't be doing this he should be strong in front of his men, but feeling these kids pain, feeling their souls had broken something inside of him, he'd been ignorant for so long, but no more. He was Jacen Farrelle Jedi Knight.

Jacen abruptly stood up and spun around on his heels. He would set things right, if Kiegs ran the system piracy, then he'd take care of him. "Lieutenant get up to the bridge, tell them to prepare the fleet for hyperspace, our destination is Praestlyn!"

Jacen then told the medic to alert him when the teens awoke. He marched right past Tanalia and made his way to the bridge.

#37 Dec 18th 2007, 10:46am
Grey-wolf David
The fleet dropped out of hyperspace within an hour, and Jacen began to feel slightly uneasy, yet he still showed no emotion except utter confidence. The ships scanners picked up one capital class cruiser and dozens of smaller freighters. They had the upper hand, in every way.

"Lieutenant, take our CR-90's and bulk cruisers and have them, move around the moon, tell them to avoid the enemy sensors, We'll move the rest of the fleet forward and engage them, once contact is established the other CR-90's and their company will come out from around the other side of the moon and ambush them. We'll create a pincer."

The lieutenant nodded and moved off to carry out the order, leaving Jacen on the bridge to watch the upcoming battle.

Back behind him, Tanalia watched. The outcome of this battle would help her decide if she truly wanted to work for this Jedi...

The two fleets collided in a mass of explosions as lasers were fired rapidly. Jacen had split the fighter squadrons into two groups, the majority where with The Valiant and the three dreadnaught escorts. The enemy dreadnaught was hanging back, as the pirate fighters danced in battle with the fighters and the short range guns of the capital ships, while the long range guns pummeled the enemy dreadnaught relentlessly.

Jacen however was shouting commands left and right, the squadrons reacted to the commands and began to relentlessly hammer the mass of freighters. Explosions littered the sky as freighter after freighter fell to the sheer ferocity and firepower of Jacen's fleet. Jacen knew that being pirates they wouldn't fight for much longer.

He was right.

The pirates broke off and began to retreat to the moon hoping to hide, with Jacen ordering the fleet after them.

They never saw it coming.

The CR-90's and bulk cruisers that Jacen had ordered to hide behind the moon, came out of their hiding place and once again the pirates were being hammered. As Jacen's group closed in behind them, effectively cutting of any escape Jacen could only say one thing.

"Every good dejarik player knows that the first move is always a bluff, its the second move that counts."

An old tactic but an effective one. Perhaps there is hope for him yet, thought Tanalia, observing the pincer movement. She wondered what training the troops got. If the troops were versed in basic ship running as well as ground combat, that might increase overall efficiency in both.

What she really wanted, though, was to learn how to command a capital ship like that assault frigate. The Mistryl admired the way it plunged through the enemy fleet, grinding through a scavenged Acclamator vessel with a pair of Corellian Corvettes.

#41 Dec 19th 2007, 4:10pm
Grey-wolf David
Jacen watched as the last of the pirates banded together in one area, in a defensive position. Jacen commanded the dreadnaughts to encircle the pirates. The dreadnaughts followed the command and soon the capital ships encircled the remaining pirates who were engaging in a furious dogfight with Jacen's fighters, Jacen ordered the fighters to flee to safety as Jacen commanded the capital ships to bombard the remaining pirates into oblivion.

"You're not going to ask them if they want to surrender?" asked Tanalia.
#43 Dec 20th 2007, 1:48pm
Grey-wolf David
"No, they're pirates, if they surrender they'll most likely just turn around and go back to pirating. You know I could teach you how to command a capital ship."

InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
"Well," said the Mistryl, ignoring the latter part of the statement, feeling ashamed that he had read her so easily. "Is that not what the Freedom Alliance consists of? Are they not mostly pirates?"
#45 Dec 22nd 2007, 4:54pm
Grey-wolf David
"That is true however These pirates are destroying people's lives, at least the Freedom Alliance is fighting for a just cause. Now Tanalia, I have a question. Kieg is holding a jedi master captive on his base, now there is no telling how many guards his citadel has. With our manpower and what you observed from your inspection, what are the estimated casualties if we were to assault his fortress?

InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
"So you don't think these pirates can be redeemed?" pressed Tanalia, wondering just how far Jacen was thinking this out. True, it was unlikely that pirates would do the right thing without some material gain, but she wondered if that was entirely true. "As for the casualty count, I'm not the best tactician, but judging by the state of your troops, I'd say you'd lose 20% due to how green they are and without knowing exactly what they're up against."

She cleared her throat and continued, "However, it would be a good object lesson for them and how important it is for them to follow orders. I noticed a few of your sergeants and commanders are competent veterans. If I went along with the troops, I could pretty much guarantee 20% even if there are three divisions of Stormtroopers, a dozen AT-STs, two AT-ATs, four Force Wraiths and a squadron apiece of Bombers and Fighters, which," she motioned at the world below. "Looks to be about right for an Impworld this size..."

Jacen considered it for a moment before speaking. "We aren't interested in the imperials, were more interested in the Pirate base, I want to get down there, get the jedi master out and leave system quickly. Also, if you had 5 jedi assisting you in the fight, Would that reduce the casualties any?
#48 Dec 23rd 2007, 2:21pm
InunotaishoandTheMikoSisters
"Consider this, Jedi," replied the Mistryl, trying to be patient. "The Imperials will not interfere at first, but after you and these pirates batter each other to a bloody pulp, the Empire will come in and pick off whoever is left, so it is more than likely you will face them. As for the pirates, if you follow my suggestions and their tactics are just as brilliant as-" she gestured at the remains of the pirate fleet. "-then casualties will be considerably lower. I assume you would send the jedi to key strike points in the citadel, correct? As stealth and sabotage units?"
#49 Dec 23rd 2007, 3:15pm
Grey-wolf David
"Of course, now they'll be waiting for you in the hanger, take my drop ship if you want. I'm also putting a bomber squadron under your command. If the imperials do attack I'll have to stay here to take down any capital ships they may send our way."

"Lieutenant tell Hardpoint squadron to make a bombing run on the citadel, they're to make one run and await further orders from Tanalia, also inform the transports to begin the landing process. Put the fleet on stage three alert!"
