Topic: Thoughts on "Digimon Savers"?
The new series that has been roaming for the past month-and-a-half now (with ep. 7 airing May 14). In my opinion, I really enjoy Savers. There's a mixture of drama, action, and comedy. Along with full-fletched characters and a very great plot. It's gets an "A" in my book.

Now, I like to know what are your thoughts regarding Savers are.

I like the show. ^_^ But for some reason, it's reminding me of 'Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger', with the organization thing, uniforms and the fighting with weird alienish creatures.

Masaru is cool, but he is so rash...After what happened in eppy 5, I'm sure Masaru/Tohma fanfictions will pop up a lot...lol. Masaru is voiced by one of my fave seiyuu, Hoshi Souichiro(Kira Yamato in GSD, Goku in Saiyuki). Tohma is the opposite of Masaru, sooo calm and collected. At first, it seems that all Gaomon says is 'Yes, master', I suppose that's just his fierce loyalty to Tohma.

The digivices do remind me of ipods...Agumon is cute with the red arm/claw straps and I like the slight distinction from season 1's Agumon.

Geogreymon is awesome, and I can't wait to see his higher evolutions.

Six episodes... so much crack and adventure references. *heart*

But seriously, Masaru's ego NEEDS some deflation, or this could become boring and frontier-like. And Yoshino needs to become useful. x.x

(Also getting a genocidal vibe from DATS, wondering if they'll go anywhere with it.)

You're not alone. The iC-Digivices *definitely* look like iPods.

Agreed. Mouma will surely be a very common couple IMO.

Just give it a little more time. After all, we've only seen seven episodes. :)

About the art, Savers's character designs give me an impression of Naruto. To be honest, I like it a lot. It looks much more realistic compared to the past Digimon artwork.

So far, I've been fairly impressed by Savers. Masaru may be over-the-top (and when I say over-the-top, I mean Davis times 10), but they seem to be going in the right direction with it. Touma is an excellent counter to Masaru. While she seems to be in the background a lot, Yoshino's personality (calm and level-headed, but complacent to a fault) makes it work. While I would like to see more of Satsuma and the DATS girls, and I've got the Cliche Police on hold in case mysterious fisherman guy ends up being Masaru's father, I'm enjoying the way Masaru's family is being portrayed (especially Chika- she so delightfully snarky that the emergence of Chima is no surprise to me).

They didn't waste any time getting the yaoi teasing in there, but we all knew it was coming anyway.

We'll see how it all holds up once we get twenty episodes in and we're due for a dramatic turn in the plot, but this is easily one of the best starts to a Digimon series, second only to Tamers.

While I would like to see more of Satsuma and the DATS girls,

I'm pretty certain Miki and Megumi and the others will receive a bit of spotlight sooner or later. Just a little more time will do so.

There's something I'm very interesting regarding Yoshin Fujieda. It's about family matters. We've been constantly hearing about Masaru's father's mysteriously disappearing and being suspected of being the weird bald-headed man and Touma missing his family in Ep. 7. Unfortunately, we've yet to hear about the Fujieda's child's side, and it's caught my interest. I can't wait to hear it.

(especially Chika- she so delightfully snarky that the emergence of Chima is no surprise to me).

Snarky Chika. Such a cute little devil, isn't she?

They didn't waste any time getting the yaoi teasing in there, but we all knew it was coming anyway.

I have to agree. The Mouma bug is becoming an epidemic. It got me, too. ;) And low and behold, Ice-Song wrote the first Mouma fic on FFnet.

Episode eight came out today, but we have to wait before any of us can see it. With the Will's currently down. ;(

Good thing we have YouTube. :D

Once Chika gets older, she'll probably go after Touma...XD

I've watched episode eight(got the link from livejournal community digimon_savers).

Yoshino's friend,Neon/Leon(not sure about the spelling of his name) is voiced by Seki Tomokazu! He has such a nice voice...

I've watched Ep. 8, as well. I thought it was good. And we now know how a person's memory of a Digimon is erased.

Yoshino's friend (or date, perhaps) is known as Neon.

My favorite part was where Masaru saw Yoshino on the screen, and he spat out his noodles. XD

I've heard of Digimon: Savers, but it has not been release in the USA and probably won't, but I've read the basic storyline and sort of seen the first episode, but I really wish they showed Digimon: Savers in the USA.

I'm pretty sure that it's planned for Savers to be brought over the US in the summer of 2007. That's what I've heard, anyway.

Wait... one of the DATS girls is named Megumi? Is this meant to be a Tamers reference or did they just forget about Tally?

Yep, one of them is named Megumi (the blonde-haired one). The other's named Miki (violet-haired). And, no, they're not Tamers refrences.

Episode 10 is out!

The more I watch, the more I'm reminded of the Super Sentai series, Dekaranger, what with the special organization, uniforms and the monster-of-the-week...and Masaru and Tohma act like Ban and Hoji...

I wonder if its coincidence that one of the guys who acted in Deka did the ending song....

I watched Episode 10. Unfortunately, I don't quite know what it was about or what they were saying. But I had a feeling that Chika temporarily held a grudge against Masaru for embarrassing her (although I suspect that it was the Bakemon's doing).

I'm watching the episodes, too, Kokoru. Perosnally, I'm found myself to be a big fan of the series. It's my second-favorite overall (Frontier bein my most-favorite.

To Birdboy: I must agree with your view of Kurata. He is one racist punk. Afraid of Digimon or not, he's racist. There's no denying that.

But... Birdboy, you've violated the rules. Swearwords ("bastard" being one of them) aren't allowed on this forum. So, watch-y watch-y.

Can somebody tell me whats going on in this season of Digimon?

In Darkness Is Light
Savers! Yay! It was just this past week that I finished watching the season. Yes, it's pathetic, I know. Personally, Savers will definetly make it as my 2nd or 3rd favourite season! I thought it was really good! The plot was perhaps a bit too stretched out, but that's how it's always been with Digimon. (Don't get me wrong, I love this show to bits!)

The ending was really cheesy, but I loved it so much! As for characters? I really liked Masaru. He was annoying at first with his fighting, but I got accustomed to it and now I think it's rather amazing and I love that! It was so sad when his dad died, but then he came back, yay! Touma was also one of my favourite characters. He was the most intellectual, by far, and he was analytical, which is something that can be used to a writer's advantage if they write a Touma/Anyone fic. It was so sweet how he was trying to find a cure for his sister Relena and all the family problems he had! Gah! I love angst!

As for Yoshino? I didn't actually like her *that* much. She was an interesting character, but she wasn't someone who was very actively involved and she didn't have much personality. She was almost like a dull Sora. Chika was one of my favourites, and I'm not sure why. That part in the finale though, when Ikuto comes to her house and she grabs him by the hand and they run off to school together, I thought was very cute! I love the Ikuto/Chika pairing and would be SO grateful if I could find some fanfiction to gather inspiration from!

I don't really have a favorite character, but Gaomon pwns. He has an awesome voice actor and he could win a boxing match no problem! He's probably one of the best Digimon that the series has ever introduced!

But as long as I'm talking about Gaomon, has anybody noticed that during the later episodes he seems to be taking a beating during fights? In the episode where they fight Mercurimon, he seems to get hit more than the others, and in "The Wrath of SaberLeomon", SaberLeomon STEPPED ON HIS FREAKING HEAD! I don't think any other Digimon have had that happen to them.

I have seen the series, it is excellent. I prefer the Japanese over the English version. I think this is the only season in which there is no romantic tension or hints among the main characters. There was always some romantic tension or flirting in the past seasons, but not this season. There is not much serious protentional romance for any of our characters, While Toumu and Yoshino did have their moments with the opposite sex, the lead character Marasu didn't even come to close to having any romance. So this season is strictly about friendships, unlike the other seasons, in which they gave some protentional canon ships to work with. It is only the youngest characters Ikuto and Chika that have the most protentional.

Anyway I loved the way all of the storylines went together and how everything is connected. I thought it took a little too long for the early stand alone episodes to stop and get to the storylines.

I agree, I thought Marasu was annoying at first, but he grow on me, and became one of my favorite characters, like Daisuke fron season 2, at first you can't stand him, but by the end, you just can't help but love him.

My favorite character was Toumu, at first I thought he was a jerk, didn't like him that much either. But very quickly as I got to know him, he became a favorite of mine. All of the Toumu centeric episodes I love. Weather it is the episode in which he had to deal with watching the death of his mother (I hate that Digimon that made him do that), a physical and more importantly psycological battle with Nanami, or the history and the present of his disfunctional family, they all were great. My favorite would be the episode in which we learn about the history of his relationship with his father and Relena, as well as the day he meet Relena.

As much as I hate him, which the audiance is suppose to hate, but Kurata is one of the greatest villains ever. He is right up there with Myotismon, who set the gold standard for villains on Digimon. He was a great character, they did a great job making us hate him, so his defeat was that much more enjoyable.

I too, love the youngest Ikuto and Chika. I wouldn't mind a sequel with them as the main characters being the ages they were in the epiloque. They should be together, form their own team. Relena should join their team, I love Relena too, even though she didn't play that big of a role. I think she has protentional to be a great character, with her history being sick and having to depend on others for a long time, not to mention the complecation of her birth. I would love to see an episode in which she deals with what happened to her mother and the guilt she has over it. That is something she and Toumu have in common, I think in the back of his mind Toumu feels some guilt for his mother's death because she sacrifised herself to save him and his was his idea to go out in the first place. Chika and Relena could be BFFs, just like their brothers. Anyway start with Ikuto, Chika, and Relena, and add a couple more kids to the team, you got protental for a great series.

Other characters that could play a role, Ikuto's sister Yuka (I am not sure if that is her name) she would be very young, she could be like Suichen from Tamers, Manami, and some of Ivan's siblings, I would love to see an episode in which they find out the horrible truth of Ivan's past. Of course Masaru, Toumu, and the other older characters would still play a role. And Kurata should come back as the main villain, I think he is still alive. He is too much of a great villain to simply stay down.

Anyway I liked the Savers season.

Um, his name isn't Toumu, it's Touma. Or Thoma, I have no idea anymore nor do I care.

I pretty much loathe Savers. It's not Digimon, it's Every Other Anime With Some Digimon Elements. Everything from the plot to the art style is stale and boring. The majority of the characters are annoying cardboard cutouts with stereotypical personalities and not an ounce of genuineness. And their lives are all too out there. I know this is Digimon we're talking about and it's a series about kids that save the world with the help of cute monsters, but the thing about them was that they were mostly normal kids with rather normal lives, problems and backgrounds. Even the ones whose pasts were tragic (with dead family members and such) were believable and treated their issues accordingly. Even the Kouji and Kouichi story, which was probably the most farfetched backstory of them all, actually came from a very real problem (when a Japanese couple divorces, visitation rights are rarely given, so if there are two siblings and each parents takes one then chances are they will never see each other again).

But in Savers it's just insane. Masaru's dad disappeared in the Digital World (and then the whole insane Yggdrasil thing, (censored by D.Q.)) and Masaru himself is a raging street fighter who can punch 20-feet-tall chickens effectively; Thoma is the illegitimate son of an Austrian aristocrat and a Japanese woman, who lost his mother tragically and isn't terribly well-loved by the family that remains, save for his half-sister who is gravely ill, and also did I mention that he's a genius who graduated from university when he was 12 and is an olympic-level boxing champion? AUGH he makes me sick. And then Ikuto, who's actually cute, but he's a Tarzan kid who was lost in the Digital World and was raised by Digimon, and ALSO lost his mother in tragic circumstances. It's just... I don't know, what is this? I can't believe this. I can't get attached to these characters. It's bad enough that they're all unlikable dunderheads, I can't even think they're real people like that. In previous series, anyone could say "oh, this character has the same problems as I do!" or "hey, this character's like me when I was a kid!", but here it's like... it's too far out. It's not Digimon. Not as I knew it.

It's not even particularly dark or edgy to make up for it. Guh.
