The tournament starts tomorrow. You can judge any entries that are in, but considering nobody will know who they're fighting until tomorrow, it'll be a bit before the entries come in. Plus there's last-second tension: by sending in your entries early, you show the other writers how you write, tipping your hand and possibly inspiring them. It shouldn't be much of a factor here, but it might.

At the risk of sounding stupid, how do we judge?

Judging is as simple as deciding which fight scene is better of the two that describe the same fight. All you have to do is be impartial and pick the one you think is better-written, using any criteria you like, or gut feeling.

And M-B, I'm only accepting people to judge, not characters. I don't approve of letting the characters 'speak for themselves' in a forum. And besides, she's in the tournament and would therefore be biased.

What I mean is, where do we submit our judgements?

I'll have a thread up by the time I want the judgments in, but I don't want any judgements in at least until the writing period is over, which is May 1st.

Wait. Are you saying a whole month for one round?

Absolutely. It may take some of our contestants only three days to finish an entry, but others are not such fast writers. In fact, I've noticed the best writers on the site are, more often than not, the ones who take a while, because they might want to wait for inspiration and because they usually write longer chapters. Plus, most of our contestants have two characters to write for. I thought a month would help out our slower or busier writers, without dragging this tournament totally into eternity. Each round is actually a month and a half - a month for writing, and fifteen days for judging.

Now that you mention it..... that makes a lot of sense. Mmmkay then. I'll check back in my April 11th.

All right, it's judgment time starting tomorrow, so I'm posting the characters I'm assigning you to judge. 10 fights are scheduled to be completed this round, so you each have the same amount to judge. I'll be starting a thread to post your decisions tomorrow. You each need to judge 5 matches, which means reading 10 chapters in 15 days and passing judgement on them. Most of the chapters are short, and none are mind-bendingly long, so this should be a reasonably simple task and I will not grant extensions unless you have a good reason.

Faced with the possibility of multiple late entries, I'm going to have lateness (within a certain limit) be permitted, but each judge for that entry may penalize the entry however they like, to whatever extent they like (you can ignore the lateness, or flat-out give your judgement to the on-time entry, or anything in between).

Here's who's judging who on Round 3. Instead of six fights, you've each got three big four-person fights. They're team battles - what I'm going to ask you to do is decide for each fight which team did better on average, and appoint a victory for that team. In addition, The Shadow Syndicate had to withdraw from this round due to computer troubles, so for Scorpion and Snake's fights, his respective teammates' entries will be judged alone against the average performance of the opposing pair.
