I don't really see the pairing working in anything but friendship. The age difference freaks me out. He's more of a father figure to her. I think pairings like Balthier/Penelo, Penelo/Vaan, Basch/Fran or Basch/Ashe are more likely. I know, I know- Ashe is only two years older than Penelo. I only say she would go good with Basch because she's way mature for her age. Anyways, romance just doesn't fit the pairing. What d'you think? Why do people like romantic pairings between the two?

Their age difference doesn't appear to be unheard of. The Emperor was in fact a very old man and yet his youngest son was only twelve years old. And like you mentioned Ashe is only two years older than Penelo and she is shipped with Basch without question. And I happen to think Penelo is very mature for her age as well. Losing your parents and having to live on the streets will make a person grow up very quickly.

The reason romance appeals to me for them is because Basch really seemed to connect with Penelo. Outside of Vaan, she really was the only one he seemed comfortable laughing and being himself with.

I see your point. I think Penelo is mature for her age, too. But it's still kind of weird to me, y'know? I dunno... your right, Ashe is shipped off with Basch without question. (I've always thought she didn't really go good with anyone. And only with Basch if she had to be paired w/ someone. I think of her as The 'Touch-me-not' Queen.)

Basch is able to connect with Penelo- be less serious... Yeah, if she was a couple of years older than maybe I'd be able to see it working. Gotta keep an open mind, right?

To be honest, BaschxPenelo is my most hated pairing (that, along with AuronxRikku from FFX... seeing the similarity?). But I promise I come here in peace! I love discussions and whatnot. I am deeply curious as to what you BaschxPen lovers see in the pairing. So far, you guys say that they "get along well." May I ask why else? Cause honestly, I draw a complete blank when trying to picture the two of them. But I am curious! And I really do promise I'm not going to flame. ;)

Perhaps I can see more of a onesided BaschxPen. As in, Penelo is totally infatuated with Basch (because, well, he IS awesome), but Basch views her stricktly as a friend. I would love to read a humerous onesided BaschxPen. :)

As I've stated previously, I prefer romance as opposed to friendship because it seemed to me that Basch had a connection with Penelo. With Ashe and Balthier it was strictly business, a knight protecting his princess and helping her restore her kingdom. I never really saw anything other than that. But with Penelo (and Vaan), Basch seemed comfortable. It was like he could let his guard down and laugh and talk with her, as if she were an old friend. Besides that, Penelo skips when she thinks about him. (It's true :D)

I used to hate Aurikku. But it is now a guilty pleasure. And I blame this pairing. Also VincentxYuffie.

I am attracted to this pairing because of what they bring out in one another, I think. In the realm of post-game play, especially, I like to think that Penelo is brought into a world she doesn't know and has to adapt for being with Basch. And that transformation from mature orphan girl to someone who can survive in an Archadian court, as the lover or wife of a Judge would have to... I really like that idea. As for the opposite, I think Penelo would refuse to let Basch lie to himself, and because he's so good at that, it's forcing him to adapt and change as well. She's his truth, and he's her anchor in a strange world.

I dunno, I once thought of this pairing as my guilty pleasure, but it's become my main in this fandom XD. I just need to actually start writing now.

I've read some stories about this pair, honestly, about FF XII I am completely open minded about the different pairings, XP (but my favorite is still AshexBasch) but I get your point, he does seems to be in a lighter mood around her. And it is a cute pairing. ^^

But I don't think of them as guilty pleasure, I mean, the age difference is 20 years right? In daily life I heard about love stories with a bigger age difference. People have a hard time accepting them, but love isn't about being acceptable for the community, right?

I, personally, dislike the pairing.

I think Basche is too old for her, and he looks like my dad ¬.¬

Penny would do better with Larsa or Vaan or soembody who isn't eight years older than her ^^
