His teachers wouldn't teach him the more modern methods so what's a kid to do, TOO THE LIBRARY!!! in cognito of course, don't want to ruin that reputation now do we. But the problem is that, the most common ones aside(Henge, Bunshin, Kawarimi, maybe treeclimbing and waterwalking), none of the more cutting edge information is in the library, but all the old stuff is and the thing is about the "old" styles or method in any feild, people become enamored with the new and forget the old.

basically Naruto becomes your steriotypical black dogi wearing, ninjato wielding, crafty badass that ninja used to be before Rokudo Senin came along and introduced biger jutsu and bloodlines

Major Points

Nobody is willing to teach Naruto so he goes looking for a way to teach himself, hence the librairy, also learns by spying on others and trying to copy their moves(the kenjutsu)

Naruto's stealth/evsion/concealment skills are rediculous, as in he walks into a small crowd or you take you blink and he's gone and you ain't finding him till he comes out

I want it to be a running Joke that Anko and Naruto have an ongoing prank war(she got caught in the crossfire of one of his pranks which started a cycle of revenge)

also Naruto becomes a different breed of pervert. During one of his projects on teaching himself about girls he becomes facinated with them, thier form, the way they move, how they act/react, etc. Yes he does peep but instead of doing it out of sexual desire it's because he sees them as a puzzle that he wants to figure out. His arrgument for getting out of the beating never fails, "Yes it's an invasion of privacy but it's also a compliment. Think of it this way. I went through all the trouble of sneaking to a good vantage point just to see you naked knowing full well what would happen if I got caught"

if the author decides to switch up the teams so that Naruto's squad is more stealth/assasination/infitraition based Genma is the new Jounin sensei

That sounds like it would be a good read.

It would be funny to see him take down a jounin with a style no one has seen in almost an century.

and the irony is that he's doing it with stuff that's on public record and they still can't stop him

There are two conversations that could be really funny.

The one whre Sasuke is all "Teach me and give me your power"

And the one where either Kakashi or the Hokage is like "Where the hell did you pick that up."

I like it, a classic low chakra, high stealth type of ninja? Instead of melting into the ground, he knows how to freaking well hide in a hurry. Old school style, where you gotts make sure that bamboo shoot sticking out of the surface of the lake isnt a straw he is breathing out of. :p One where kenjutsu and taijutsu are combined with all hit and run tactics, a quick slice, then fade away into the shadows to strike again from an unexpected angle. Maybe he could get together with Lee and Tenten in this setup. After all, one cant use chakra anyways, the other prefers to use weaponry and striking from a distance.

So we're basically talking Tenchu type ninja? AWESOME! Stealth kills, simple but effective techniques, and the main goal is not to be seen even if you can kill the enemy.

Items I believe he must have: grappling hook! and small metal claws to cling to walls/celings - no need for chakra to give away your position, the sheet that blends to any wall(used once in the beginning) - when need to hide from a wondering guard, and last but not least a ninjato with a black blade so it doesn't reflect light - quick silent kills.

Maybe give him one of Kyuubi's eyes so that can see heartbeats/bodyheat/in the dark but it is only useful in dim light because it is so sensitive and difficult to use for a human. His goal to be the perfect assassin.

Tenchu style is exactly what I was going for, though he could add in other things as people teach him

small metal claws to cling to walls/celings- those are called shuko and they're good for making it look like someone got mauled by a wild animal to.

how about instead of him having Kyuubis eyes Kyuubi's present enhances his senses(and protects them from being overloaded)

No I ment only one of kyuubi's eyes like say the right would be his greatest strength and weakness. The strength is that it can 'sense' at night and by scouting an area or looking at map it can allow Naruto to picture a 3-D image of that area in his mind.

The enhance senses is kind of old and makes the Kyuubi seem nice. This would be the Kyuubi slowly trying to take over, you could say that Kyuubi is actually in the eye watching everything and influencing Naruto to kill innocents as well as enemies which Naruto would have to fight against animal like urges.

Of course if you do give him enhanced senses give him claws as well to allow the clinging to walls instead of the shuko. In fact, why just senses, make him the perfect 'night' weapon. Claws to prevent use of chakra. Sight/smell/hearing to know where the enemies are without them suspecting(maybe even a type of heat sight). And a type of chameloen camo effect to blend into surroundings. The only actually weapons he would have is the ninjato and his mind. Going further into that idea you can make this a mode he can go into at any time but only does so at night because the powers are so sensitive.

I think I'm just going to say no special Kyuubi powers, which would actually make what he's capable of all the more impressive(and frightening) as it's all skill

I would have to agree on the all skill thing it make is all the more impressive that he can do the things he can.

Reasonable. Will you ban all nin/gen/taijutsu besides certain moves? Like only having shunshin and maybe slight training in taijutsu to take out a unaware opponent?

Must finish other fics so I can take up new ideas! This got my muse to attack me furiously. This could be badass on so many levels!

you make a good point, I never meant that he completly ingores ninjutsu and genjutsu just that he hasn't had anyone to teach him so he went with what he had and got very good at it so yes he could use jutsu

But who would teach him?

Hayate could teach him kenjutsu. After all, he is one of the very few remaining swordmasters left in konoha, and the style of ninja that you guys have setup for naruto to become would seem to be perfectly suited to hayate. Like I said earlier, id like a team setup with lee and tenten, which means, mister taijutsu, Might Gai himself would be the sensei. I think he would LOVE the idea of forming a team of ninja based more upon physical skill, than chakra manipulation. Naruto would just have to convince him that green spandex isnt very stealthy. :p

Hmmm... what about the rasengan and kage bunshin

they are after all his trademarks unless you change that.

initially nobody teaches him thats why he ends up using the "Old School" stuff as for later Trib has a point Hayate could teach him some kenjutsu tricks but I'd much rather that was another of those selftaught things at least for the most part

as far as the team goes, if it's anything other then Team 7 I'd say Naruto's team should be an infiltration/assasination team

Kage bunshin i can see him learning, after all, deception is a large role in the life of a shadow shinobi. Rasengan, id vote no. Its bright, attention grabbing, and really not in line with his style in this story.

Ok but it is his father's jutsu that should count for something.

As for what EDalta said the best way to get that kind of team is to either break up team ten or team eight and replace nartuo with on of them or to make some OC's

I'm going to have to go with Naruto learning anything he can get his hands on, and a yes on learning Rasengan as it makes and excellent ambush jutsu

as for breaking up other teams the easiest would be to replace Kiba with Naruto
