dragondolphin1990Topic: Which Instrument will Rule the World? This is a place to argue about which instrument will rule the world. Feel free to post your opinions, but please be nice to everyone else. |
CodyFSaxophone.. |
dragondolphin1990I believe that Clarinets will take over. They are easy to tune, can play loud, and have flavored reeds. Plus, Clarinets are pretty!Granted, flavored reeds suck. If you have a Clarinet, Sax, Oboe, Basson, etc., don't use flavored reeds. |
CodyFSaxophone will rule because there are so many different styles that you can play on it. I mean you can play different styles on clarinet, but the tone is all different, and saxes sound real pretty, in both registers, granted the person playing the sax has to be a good player. It's easier to do vibrato on saxophone, it's harder to do so on clarinet because of the tight embrochure. Saxophones get all the solos, so that means we have to be doing something right. It isn't hard to tune a sax. If you get it right once, and keep putting the mouthpeice on right *it leaves an impression on the cork so that you know where it was last* then you most of the time be in tune, except for when your outside, cuz of weather and all. But anyway saxes will rule, because we're cool like that. P.S. We are such band geeks if we argue about instruments and which will rule the world. |
CodyFP.P.S. Saxes are pretty too.. They can be so many different colors it isn't funneh. |
dragondolphin1990There are almost as many kinds of clarinets as there are saxes.I think vibrato is easiest on flute (but I've, uh, never played flute) Saxes get the solos in jazz. Trumpets get them in marching. And the most skilled player gets them in concert. And, at my school at least, the most skilled player is a clarinetist (she's the second best highschool clarinetist in the state. she's awesome) And the tuning thing? I disagree. With saxophones, you can get tuned easilly enough... on the tuning note. But when you go to the higher octive, you almost always have to loosen your emouchoure and tighten when you play the lower octive. With clarinets, once you get in tune, you usually stay in tune, unless weather gets in the way, or something. And I'm not just a cocky clarinetist. I play lead alto in jazz. And you're right. We are band geeks. But I'm proud of it. |
Charlie's InnocenceUh... Mellophones/French horns will rule the world.. Duh! Because in marching band we played louder than the 16 trumpets when there were 6 mellophones. So that's why my mellophone section will rule the world. |
CodyFBut out of all the instruments I've ever played saxophone was the most fun, clarinet wasn't.. Mellophone has to small of a mouthpeice to be any fun, although it sounds very pretty.. Don't get me wrong..I love all musical instruments, except the trombone/baritone.. and i started off on trombone.. i thing that the best is sax.. and in our marching band we've always had a saxophone solo.. every year since i've been in it.. I play 1st tenor in marching and concert.. in jazz I play trombone.. which i'm moderate at.. even though i despise it with all my heart.. i'm third chair in jazz band.. i like clarinet, that's the next instrument i'm going to learn actually.. so maybe if i had more experience on it, it might become my favorite.. and alto is harder to play then tenor.. because you have to have a smaller embrochure.. and the higher octaves on it are horrible.. the only note that is real bad on tenor *usually* is G.. but that's just me, I know my tenor like the back of my hand.. and I know when to change my embrochure.. *about the awesome clarinet* that sounds cool.. wish i could say that about someone in my band.. but the only one in my band is a trombone.. bleh.. he's in the top five.. prolly number one.. i dunno i don't talk to him much.. and keep in mind that every band is different.. but for now my band is ruled by the saxes.. and eventually we will rule the world muahahaha.. GO BAND! *proud bandgeek* Hyuga Kyuuketsuki *this post is not meant to sound mean btw.. because it always seems like i've offended you **dragondolphin1990** in some way* |
dragondolphin1990Oh, no, Hyuga, you aren't offending me. I think our conversations are quite amusing. And now for my sane thought for the day: If you don't like having a smaller embouchure for alto, you probably won't like clarinet. The clarinet mouthpeice is smaller than the alto mouthpeice. (unless you count bass clarinet) |
CodyFI think the same way, only band ppl argue about what instrument is gonna take over the world.. not what people.. haha..anyway I like alto.. but i don't like the upper octave on it.. i love the low register on clarinet.. and i have played clarinet.. just not actually played it.. meaning i can play notes but i don't know what the world they mean.. so i just make up random stuff.. you know what.. compromise.. Woodwinds will rule the world.. H.K. :) | #10 Aug 11th 2006, 3:18pm

dragondolphin1990Yes! Woodwinds!| #11 Aug 12th 2006, 6:11am

FrostpawGo woodwinds, go woodwinds! Flutes will rule the world!| #12 Aug 12th 2006, 11:07am
Charlie's InnocenceNo. Mellophones/French horns will. Because we're awesome. Or, at least, my section of mellophones is. 'Cause yesterday, I heard the trumpet section leader telling off the trumpets because the mellophones were playing louder than they were. And what's cool about that is, there's 17 trumpets and 6 mellophones. MUAHAHAHA! We rule you all! Bow down to me.| #13 Aug 13th 2006, 12:00pm
CodyFNope.. Woodwinds will.. unless you kinda consider mello/horn to be a woodwind.. they always pratice with the saxes in sectionals for some reason..| #14 Aug 13th 2006, 12:03pm
FrostpawWoodwinds are awesome. Especially flutes. We have this woodwind soli in our show, and the flutes are the only ones who can play it..relatively well. The saxophones always slow down, and the clarients just aren't very good.| #15 Aug 13th 2006, 4:00pm
CodyFneat.. i always rush.. i dunno why.. but i do..We have an awesome woodwind fugue.. its sexy.. | #16 Aug 13th 2006, 4:02pm
dragondolphin1990All the woodwinds at my school are good. But our low brass sucks... | #17 Aug 13th 2006, 6:51pm
FrostpawEveryone hated the trumpets in our band for awhile because they a) couldn't play long eighth notes and b) couldn't play a forte-piano! We stopped TWELVE times for that forte-piano!| #18 Aug 14th 2006, 1:44pm
Charlie's InnocenceMello/Horn a woodwind? Ha! We rule over you! *sticks out tongue*(Just so you know, that was not a mean *sticks out tongue*, it was a friendly *sticks out tongue*. But we rule the woodwinds anyway.) | #19 Aug 14th 2006, 2:46pm
dragondolphin1990I thought of another plus for clarinets. We have one of the largest ranges out of every instrument. We can play low E a few lines below the staff all the way up to high high C quite a few lines above the staff (I'm too lazy to count how many lines right now...)I would probably argue more about it right now, but I have the sudden urge to read Harry Potter slash... This IS a fanfiction site, after all. | #20 Aug 14th 2006, 9:30pm
CodyFTenors can play an high F above the staff.. and a low B if they're good enough.. oh well.. i'm tired of arguing.. my feet hurt to much..| #21 Aug 15th 2006, 5:39pm
ClarinetWrathArinekoI agree, Woodwinds will dominate over the Brass in Marching and Concert band. But, I admit, trumpets DO get most of the marching solos, saxes get the most jazz solos, but flutes and clarinets get the most concert solos, followed by saxes and trumpets, of course, I'm in the second highest band in the school(out of three, the lowest is for freshmen), so I don't know about the higher bands.| #22 Aug 16th 2006, 9:06am
dragondolphin1990Hyuga, I know what notes tenor can play. I was a tenor for a day before switching back to bari (bari sax can play two half steps lower than the other saxes, btw). And I know that clarinets still have a higher range.Crazy, welcome to our band family! | #23 Aug 16th 2006, 6:58pm
CodyFWell thanks for telling me.. I had no clue that you played tenor.. So whatever, I don't really care anymore. I think clarinets suck.| #24 Aug 16th 2006, 7:05pm
dragondolphin1990You... you... you...Clarinets don't suck!!!! | #25 Aug 18th 2006, 11:11pm

Ember NickelTENOR SAXOPHONES.Seriously. They've got that whole loner deal going: "neither fish nor fowl nor good red herring". They're so often found with brass as opposed to their reed counterparts, so they can wind up getting all the strengths and none of the weaknesses of both woodwinds and brass. | #26 Sep 03rd 2006, 12:03pm
dragondolphin1990Tenor... pretty much the only saxophone I don't play... Ember makes a good point, yet I still think it's clarinets (because I'm baised)| #27 Sep 06th 2006, 6:14pm

Ember NickelAren't we all?And Hyuga, tenors go down to B flat. (Concert A flat). | #28 Sep 08th 2006, 1:52pm

dragondolphin1990I would like to change my earlier opinion. I don't think clarinetists will rule the world anymore. I think that bari and contrabari saxes will rule the world. They are reed instruments, which sound the best (in my opinion) and they play LOW. I mean LOOOOOOOOW. They're like a woodwind/brass hybrid thing.I guess I could just change it to saxophones in general will rule the world. Then Hyuga, Ember, and I would team up and take over the UNIVERSE!!!!!!! Edit: I can't spell. T.T | #30 Sep 27th 2006, 9:20pm . Edited Sep 27th 2006, 9:21pm

The Pirate IllusionistI think low brass will rule the world because we're so low and cool...haha...but then again, the trumpets are the controlling ones (no offense to anyone...heh). Low brass (at least in my band) includes tubas, trombones, baritones, bari saxes, and tenor saxes. (sometimes mellophones but I'm not sure they should be included in low brass.)| #31 Sep 29th 2006, 6:54pm
dragondolphin1990I'll agree with Pirate for two reasons (and I'll admit that my reasoning sucks)1) I play bari sax, and Pirate included baris in low brass 2) Pirates rock (I am a clarinet pirate, by the way) So, yeah... | #32 Oct 01st 2006, 9:12pm

Yoko Kitsunehah, you fools, it is quite obvoious that drumline will rule the world... A. we have mallets/sticks that we get to use to whip all other bandies into shape, 2. We have crazy barrets, and D. The basses will run into you if you appose us.noone will stand a chance... MWAHAHAHA!!! | #33 Oct 16th 2006, 7:27pm

Charlie's InnocenceMellos aren't included in low brass. At least, my band doesn't include them in low brass, and I don't include myself in low brass. Aha! I know what will happen. The mellos/horns will join up with the trumpets, take over the world, then, when they least expect it, we will overthrow the trumpets and become Supreme Rulers of the World! Muahahaha! *goes to start formulating evil plot* Mello/horn players have weapons, too. We can hit you over the head with our instrument cases. Or we could take our mello case and our horn case and hit you with both of them. Bwahaha. | #35 Oct 18th 2006, 3:13pm

dragondolphin1990Time for dragon's deep thought for the week:Assuming that band geeks to end up taking over the world, there is no chance that we would stay in power very long. Congress would take away our budget and give the money to the renegade sports people. So, it doesn't matter who would take over the world because jocks will always end up stealing it away from us. P.S. *cough*Clarinets*cough* | #36 Oct 18th 2006, 8:25pm

The Pirate IllusionistAbout the mellophones, yeah our mellophone player was included in low brass because there was only one but when we split up for sectionals, all the brass went together.Very true! Never thought about being kicked out. | #37 Oct 19th 2006, 3:23am
