Mei SanniangTopic: I can't say that I'm a big fan of Yaoi. I respect those who are interested in such things, but from reading "the Romance of the Three Kingdoms", the book, and from playing the game, it just seems unrealistic.Sure, Zhang He's a bit girly, but that doesn't mean he is interested in men. Or it could mean just that. So far, I haven't seen any "men interested in men" scenes. During the Han and after the Han dynasty, homosexuality was discriminated against. I find it hard to believe that influential people, such as the generals in the Three Kingdoms, would find interest in other men. I'm more of the male/female type of person. =3 P.S. Zhuge Liang/Yue Ying 4ever. x3 |

The Providence CrowBehold the glory of fanfiction: Our strange little minds can make up whatever the hell we want ^^ The fact that homosexuality was discriminated against makes it more fun for most of us to write- it adds drama to it, a little extra edge. Makes it more exciting, you know? Men have always found interest in other men, though, even when it was forbidden. While its true that most yaoi comes from our sick, twisted, fangirl minds, there are a few implications, though probably unintentional. (For example: Zhou Yu saying "My beloved Sun Ce"-how can we resist! It's just too good! And don't get me started on the Zhang He/Sima Yi oppurtunities...)I'm more of a male/male, female/female person. =3 P.S. Zhuge Liang/Jiang Wei and Yue Ying/Xing Cai 4ever. x3 |

Crazy InsanityI'm a yaoi convert so I can relate to how you feel about the subject.Sure, it was discriminated against. This sets up a natural pretense for tragedy. And, of course, none of the guys really make out or do anything of the sort in the game. It's just when we see things like Xiahou Dun's obsession with Guan Yu and Zhou Yu's obsession with Sun Ce that we really get going. I'm probably disgusting you right now xP But scenes can be interpreted differently. Besides, contrary to popular opinion, we have imaginations. It's mostly our, um, creativity. Yeah. =P Man/Man has been going on throughout history. The ancient Greeks were even open about it. We all know that homosexuality is not a recent thing. It's been going on for thousands of years. So it's basically us asking, "What if?" And our brains start whirring. | #3 Feb 17th 2006, 10:37pm

Burg"During the Han and after the Han dynasty, homosexuality was discriminated against. I find it hard to believe that influential people, such as the generals in the Three Kingdoms, would find interest in other men."Actually, this is incorrect. As a matter of fact, Scholar Pan Guangdan came to the conclusion that nearly every emperor in the Han Dynasty had one or more male sex partners. The general attitude towards homosexuality was tolerant, and none of the major chinese religons condemened homosexuality as a sin. As long as a man does his duty and sires children, it is his private affair to have other male lovers. In particular with Taoism, homosexuality can even be regarded as something very natural do to the natural balance of Ying and Yang. | #9 Jul 25th 2006, 10:45pm

diamond hunterI do think it was frowned up on, the commander in chief of a later Han emperor Huan was confirmed to have had a male lover, he was described as a vile and overbearing man and the fact that he had a male lover created controversy at court. Then again the Emperor hated him and had him exiled later on, so the account could be biased, nonetheless its interesting to see homosexuality singled out as a trait of his bad personality.| #10 Mar 27th 2007, 5:17pm

winyaelYou're right that homosexuality was discriminated against in ancient times, but that doesn't mean it wasn't practiced. Anyway, all of this stuff is fanfiction, so I guess it's ok to involve the characters in some really incredulous stuff. I'm sure the readers are smart enough not to be misled. But like you, I'm not very interested in yaoi either, unless it's really tastefully written and doesn't involve graphic sex scenes (urgh!). When it comes to DW, I'm more interested in friendship than romance stories. I'm not particularly interested in any form of pairing, not even Zhou Yu/Xiao Qiao. Zhou Yu should be mine! ALL MINE! ok sorry got carried away lol |
