I warn you now, if you don't want me to ruin (*snort*) parts of the book, don't continue reading this post. I just can't keep silent.

...

I just finished reading Todd's latest mistake...er, book...Dragongirl, and I nearly couldn't make it. I found myself literally shouting out things like "oh my god", "what?!", "are you serious", "you can't do that!", and "you're screwing with Anne's world; stop screwing with her world!" while reading...through the whole book. I hate to spoil it for anyone else who hasn't read it and/or cares, but really?! Just, the whole thing is like "okay, let's throw all the rules out the window and into the nearest midden heap." I won't spoil one of the major...*shudder*...plot-twists, even though it's one of the worst parts I've found (you'll know exactly what I'm talking about if you read it; it's the one you just want to burn off the page), but he's actually thrown Lorana and Fiona at us again...as even bigger Sues!

For pete's sake, how can you suddenly, out of the blue, just decide that Lorana can now speak telepathically with people? There's no way, either, that Zirenth (T'mar's bronze) would be willing to take part in a mating flight (much less three) when his rider is in a coma, not to mention letting Lorana and Kindan fly with him through a Fall. Since when does a queen rise to mate six measly days after her last flight, just because three other queens (clear across the continent) rose that day? And how does Fiona magically manage to throw a perfect bowl on a potter's wheel (ready to fire and everything) on her first try...when she's never even seen a potter's wheel before? I have worked with wheel throwing, and it is freaking hard. It simply isn't possible for three different novices to somehow all manage to be good at it and get something worth firing. (Surprisingly, the wheel throwing is one of the worst parts to me, because I know how hard it is. Todd has obviously never tried this particular occupation.)

*sobs quietly* I just hated this book so much! I am seriously, personally, upset with Todd right now for inflicting us with such rubbish. Does he assume that if he vaguely mentions something totally outlandish in a Record, it is suddenly viable? And I've never read a Pern book with so many sex scenes. Every chapter has random sex, and almost all the girls are pregnant. What the heck! Does he think that Weyrs are just big orgies? The only thing that made me sad for the characters was the ending, with Lorana. No one deserves that. I don't blame Anne for wanting to finish the next book with him. She'll have some say with what goes in it. Hopefully she'll be able to smack her rules (ambiguous and contradictory though they are) back into her world. Todd's taking too many liberties, and I can't stand it. Go take an online writing course; get some sort of technique, please!

Verdict: NEVER buy this book. If you have to read it (as I did, because I'm addicted and just have to read all the stories about Pern), get it from a library or read it in-store, without buying. It's a waste of money.

(Sorry for my rant.)
