Topic: Ryouga's Fangs
What's up with that? Anyone have any favored explanation for them?

Why, yes, I do.

I've heard everything from "He's a vampire" to "He's a dragon."

Personally, I prefer the "He has a grandfather that was a werewolf" one.

Wouldn't a simple explanation that would work in the manga be that one of his ancestors was from the Musk dynasty?

That's unlikely. Ryoga isn't nearly uber enough for that, plus he'd have more than just fangs to show for it. The musk dynasty hasn't been mating with animals for a long time, but Lime and Mint are still very super despite the diluted blood.

I think it's a Takahashi thing...There are others with fangs in her other works...maybe she just likes characters with fangs...

Many people have this kind of fangs, though it is rarely accepted because of the vampire myth, although perhaps originally the vampire myth originated from these people...

Perhaps one of his parents have these fangs, and that is all. A gene. We shouldn't look for an explanation for everything.

Come up with ideas worthy of writing a fic about and we'll be going somewhere. Gene alright. But just one? Don't think so! Complex traits such as this one often arise due to inheritance. Whatever this could signify is for you the prospective reader/writer of fanfics to find out...

Heh, I kinda like the "Grandpappy was a werewolf" idea now that it is mentioned. Another idea is that he could have desended from one of the dog demon clan (dog/wolf/fox/etc). That could make for some interesting fics, and would explain his high ki reserves, but would kinda clash with the direction sense thing. I think that the theory of him decending from the musk is also valid, yes, they stopped mating with animals long ago and still get the animal look and strength (Mint/Lime), but what if Ryoga's ancestors broke off long before the practice stopped. They could have parted with the tribe on bad terms, and been cursed with the bad direction sense thing. Hey, there ya go, there's a story idea, the only way to break the curse is to defeat the decendant of the family that cursed his! There. Got a couple of ideas for ya.

Well, usually in anime characters get fangs when they are angry, or upset. So, following that path Ryoga must be frustrated 24/7 with his directional and pig curse. It's no wonder he has fangs.

I have discovered the true reason Ryoga has fangs! Behold!

This is Ciera Misfortune. Please note the fangs, the headband, and the clear resemblance she has to Ryoga. But here's the kicker; she and her two sisters all have horrible direction senses.

Am I the only one that thinks this is Ryoga's Mother/grandmother/great grandmother/some form of relative?

Acually you're right, I don't have "fangs" myself persay, but my canines are larger than normal. Its not as noticable as Ryoga's but my friends say I don't need fake ones. They're extra sharp too for some reason. As it stands they point out a bit longer than usual from the rest of my teath.

Lots of Takahishi's characters have fangs.

Like Inuyasha from Inuyahsa, Kouga from Inuyasha, Ryoga from Ranma... They're a pretty cool turn on actually. Lots of different people use them.

But I'm leaning towards that girl in the comic strip.... And I wonder if it is little more than a resembleance

Doesn't Ryouga's name roughly translate into "Good Fangs"? If so it's a visual pun. Also with his temper, it could be a perminate SD.

Lol. And people try to find the meaning of Shampoo, Cologne and Mousse's names.... When its obvious that they're all products. See? Mousse and Shampoo are both hair products. I'm surprised they didn't make another character called conditioner.

Hey, I have fangs, just not AS sharp as Ryoga's. There's nothing special about me, my teeth end in a point. His teeth end in a point. End of story. Period. The end. ^-^
