Topic: The 11th Doctor
As much as we all love David Tennant as the 10th Doctor, we're all going to have to realize that he, like the others that came before him, will get tired of playing the Doctor (unless he's like Tom Baker and will go on for a few years) and someone will have to replace him. Come here to talk about anything for the possible future 11th Doctor. Speculations on the new actor, the new fashion, the new personality, new ANYTHING are all welcome!

And yes, I know I'm risking life and limb just talking about the departure of David's awesome 10th Doctor so early. *Inches away from rabid, torch-bearing 10th Doctor fan mob.*

Yes I have heard that he will soon be passing the torch, or in thi case screwdriver. Apparently the writer r considering handing the part to a woman the only thing that I have to say t that rumor is the companion better be HOT if hes gonna rival the doctor.

Yeah, he might quit soon, like Christopher Eccleston, although 9 was and remains to be THE BEST doctor there ever was, or there ever will be!!!

Yeah, David Tennant is a beefcake, but unfortunately, we all know that his time will eventually come to an end as the Doctor and we will be given a new actor. So I say, why not a hot actor? Why not an actor who has proven himself time and time again in various movies, and who is now slightly free because he's out of the Harry Potter movies pretty much... That's right, the actor who plays the character in my name! Can I get a booyah for Gary Oldman as the eleventh Doctor? He's hott, British, did I mention hott? Oh yeah, it's Gary all the way!!!

I've heard that they've been considering James Nesbitt for the 11th doctor. He could most certainly pull off the 'creepy doctor' moments and angry doctor. But compared to our David he's nothing.

Gary Oldman? Not a bad idea. He is done with the Harry Potter movies, after all. And I did like to imagine the 11th as being a bit scruffy.

James Nesbitt? A little too creepy IMO. Naw, they should keep him on for "Jekyll" cuz DAMN if he isn't perfect for that role! =D

I'd always thought they'd get a black actor for an incarnation of the Doctor. If they did, I think they might go with Chiwetel Ejiofor (the Operative from "Serenity"). He has an impressive theatrical background and has been in some excellent movies. He could bring something good to the series.

I don't think that thye'll be a second Jekyll damn shame. But I think James Nesbitt would be best as the doctors last incarnation becasue he's really great at being dark n u can already see now that the doctor's mercy is leaving and life itself id making him darker. It's scaraly clear in human nature.

daniel radcliffe? that would be so sad. personally, i'm not a big fan of him. but (just for argument's sake) i tihnk that rupert grint could be a funny doctor. or have there been too many funny doctors, and they're going for someone more serious?

on another note, (and i'm going to apologize in advance for the capitals) I LOVE DAVID TENNANT! MY FAVE DOCTOR!!!!

p.s. who was the 9th doctor? i thought tennant was 11. or am i getting my numbers wrong?

oh, and to go in another direction, what about asisstants (HOW do you spell that?)? i think an american asisstant (damn! stupid spelling!) could be interesting.

Yea it might be nice to get an american one. Tennant was 10th n Christopher eccleston was the 9th. Rupert Grint would be good the doctor deserves to be ginger, we all saw the jelousy of the cat.

Rupert Grint would be an interesting choice for Doctor, as he is an excellent actor and is ginger (lol). But he would have to be a few years older to play Eleven. Tradition goes that the new Doctor is played by an actor who is younger than the previous one. Unless Rupert ages a little more quickly, he might have to stick with being a possible choice for Twelve.

Lol Gary Oldman? It would be so hilarious if Snape (Alan Rickman) was the 11th doctor. But I like david Macdonald (that's his real last name but Tennant if you like that surname) as the doctor.

Actually I think Johnny Depp would be an awesome Dr. though

I definetly think that the next Doctor should be Ginger... i mean we all saw the look on his face when Rose told him he wasn't Ginger...poor doctor! and i think the next doctor should also be scottish! to go with the ginger hair... how bout...just throughing it out on a limb, Ewan Mcgregor or Gerry Butler?

BUT I STILL WANT TENNANT TO GO FOR A COUPLE MORE YEARS.... I think he's got it in him, plus he loves being the Doctor, he watched it when he was a kid and Baker was his favourite, so i don't know how he would'nt do it for a couple more years!

Doctor Who is probably a little too mainstream for Mr. Depp, and I think he prefers movies. =( Though he would be nice to look at every week. ahaha

I think that Gerard Butler would be a good actor, he's not a ginger, but he's Scottish, and he is an amazing actor! If you don't know who he is, he's the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera *movie version* and he plays King Leonidas in 300, ahahaha. =D

Um, well, David Tennant told The 2007 Guinness Book of World Records that playing the Doctor was always his childhood dream, so I think he's going to be around for a while. I know this because I've read that interview many, many times.

And all of the British actors you're mentioning are too well-known already to be the Doctor. It seems that the producers usually pick a fairly unknown actor (who might be recognizable, but certainly not A- or B-List) to be the Doctor. And seriously, Gerard Butler as the Doctor? (*remembers Phantom of the Opera and shudders*) I could picture Ewan McGregor as the Doctor (though Young Obi-Wan Kenobi stepping out of the TARDIS would certainly be amusing), but not Gerard Butler.

And as much as I love Johnny Depp, I think that he might take the Doctor to a whole new level of weird (think of what he did to Willy Wonka).

I'm just going to sit back, enjoy Ten while I can, and let the 11th Doctor pop up when the time is right.

Is that guy American? If so, I'm not sure the producers would be very keen to let an American play the Doctor. Therefore, as much as I'd like it, Jensen Ackles will never be the Doctor (he plays Dean Winchester on Supernatural), but if he was, he'd have to wear Dean's leather jacket.

All I know for definate that has been confirmed is that David is playing the doctor in 3 specials in 2009, after that Doctor Who resumes to normal series' but whether David's gonna be the Doctor, I dunno.

I love him as the Doctor, I love him full stop. But him playing the doctor for a while now...3 series. I think by 2010 new blood will be needed.

I would have loved John Simm to be the Doctor, but then he played the Master, so I can't see him being the Doctor any time soon....he was Awesome though...He would have been an amazing Doctor.

Rupert Grint would be ace.

Rupert Grint would be ace.

If we're going for a teenage doctor, then I volunteer my 15-year-old brother. That'd be funny: the Doctor as a horomonal American teenage fanboy ("I know we need to save the universe, but I need to finish watching this Star Wars marathon first."). He's cute and he's got dorky charm and that's all the Doctor needs, right?

It seems that you guys are just picking out a British actor that you find attractive and saying "He's British and hot, therefore he'd make a good 11th Doctor." You need to think about how the actor balances drama and comedy and other such things, not just appearance. Age is also a factor; an 18-year-old (like Daniel Radcliffe) probably wouldn't make a convincing Doctor. I think the youngest Doctors have been in their early 30s, I believe.

Personally I think david tennant DEFINATELY one of the best doctors we have ever had. Mainly I think that because he is the only one who is actually SEXY ^^ and young enough to have hoards of screaming fangirls. As far as an eleventh doctor goes, there is enough foreshadowing so far in the new series (*cough cough* planet of the ood *cough*) to know for sure that david is leaving us soon, the mere thought kills me on the inside (;_;) But as far as eleventh doctors go I think that gary oldman would make an interesting maybe darker doctor, but then it would be like a repeat of david tennant with a perm and a gloomy attitude so I doubt it would work. I really don't think the 11th will be a woman, I mean it was meant to be a kids show, soooooo as to not confuse european ten year olds that twist would probably be avoided. I reeeaaaaallly want david tennant to stay but my ideal 11th doctor would most likely be johnny depp :3 but he would never ever do such a mainstream tv role. I mean he's jhonny depp, he won't get out of bed for anything less than a smash hit tim burton film or the next oscar nominated movie. (GAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I DIDN'T USE NEARLY ENOUGH CAPITAL LETTERS TO SHOW MY FANGIRLY NESSSSSS NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO) *ahem* anyway..........

I have two choice....

Stephen Fry. Now before you girls go saying "He's too old" and I know RTD doesn't wnat an old doctor think about it. He's funny. He's as intelligent as the Doctor in real life. He would be pure awesome. He would have class, he would have wit and he would have awesomeness. His only fault would be hand to hand combat, but really the Doctor is meant to be able to think/talk his way out of those situations.

Eddie Izzard. One thing the New Series has been lacking is weirdness. Alientude. Something/one so bizzare that it remind you that it's Sci Fi. Eddie Izzard would be an entertaining Doctor to watch.

But my ideal situation is this:

Stephen Fry as Doctor, Eddie Izzard as an alien companion. It's just made of... awesomeness.

Hydra God, I agree with you on your choice of Stephen Fry. I've only seen him in Blackadder Goes Forth (and wasn't he also in V for Vendetta?), but I think he'd make a great Doctor.

Now before you girls go saying "He's too old" and I know RTD doesn't wnat an old doctor think about it.

Honestly, I don't care if the next Doctor is sexy or not. He just better be entertaining. Seriously, it seems that Ten brought in a bunch of fangirls who don't actually care that the Doctor is an awesome character in his own right, but instead worry about whether or not he's "pretty." I'm still quite new to the fandom, but thankfully I've outgrown that sort of thing. And I'm the girl who thinks Nine was sexy. (*crickets chirp*) Shocking, I know, but I'm weird like that.

Werewulf, I think what the Ood in "Planet of the Ood" meant was that the Doctor has used 10 of his 13 incarnations, so his "song will soon come to an end;" I don't think it meant that David is leaving soon.

Also, Werewulf, it might be entertaining to see the Doctor become a woman. Have you seen the Doctor Who spoof, "The Curse of Fatal Death?" He becomes a woman at the end and flirts with the Master and it's hysterical.

#39 Apr 22nd, 3:20pm
lasweetie

I also don't care if the next Doctor is sexy or not, I'm definitely hooked on the show. But I do want to watch someone who's good looking =) I think that adds to how women in the show act around the Doctor, they always fall for him because he's charming and always marginally attractive.

The next Doctor, which hopefully will come in a REALLY LONG TIME, I think should be cautious more. Maybe that's just me, but I mean, both the ninth and tenth Doctor's have had a general lack of caution. I haven't watched the old series, but are all the Doctors uncautious? Because if they are, ignore my comment =)

And to comment on the "Your song will end soon" I think he's refering to Rose. And that Rose is the Doctor's song and she will die in battle! MWAHAHA FOR FUFILLING PROPHECIES!

#40 Apr 22nd, 4:32pm

It was released during the new episode of the friday night project that costarred david tennant that there will be an episode with martha and donna and rose and possibly jack and the doctor (obviously), which very much excites me (being the fangirl that I am) I really really don't think Rose is gonna die soon, I mean she kinda seems to be an emo kid right now or at least she seems depressed from AMERICAN SPOILER when we saw her in the series four premire, sooo she Is gonna be an important charater again but really, is bbc really cruel and heartless enough to introduce Rose and again and then kill her off? I'm still busy TORCHWOOD AMERICAN SPOILER mourning Owen from torchwood. Personally I hope to see doctor who around for at least another decade, I grew up with my mother telling me how doctor who was the only thing on television as entertaining as the twilight zone, so it really kicks ** to see it going strong from the times of tom baker, and now im rambling...... I really do hope david tennant stays, maybe the girls/boys? who watch dw are now spoiled by a sexy and nerdishly charming doctor, but I hope whoever takes over david tennants position is as good looking as he is, but is a little darker. I may be a little sadistic at times (greatly enjoying the end to the thrid series :-) ) but I think its intriguing seeing the darker side of the doctor and percieving him as more than just the upbeat good guy. I lied last time, my NUMBER ONE pick for an eleventh doctor, even though it is even less likely to happen than johnny depp is hugh lawrey

Hydra God

Really? I think we really do need an older doctor. Someone to remind everyone that the show is meant to be about the Doctor's pure magnificent wit. And we need a cynical Doctor. Less "Humans are wonderful" and more "Stupid humans". Of course the Doctor will always care so someone who can still emit some kindness. But to be honest I think that although romance in portion in Doctor Who is always good in the new series it has been playing too much of a center role, we need more of that wit. And proper wit not "Screwdriver solves everything!" as much as I love the new series it does lack some of what the Old series has. Perhaps it's because I'm a guy Whofan and don't really think the Doctor's looks plays a role in the equation of his character that I so wish for a character like Stephen Fry (Have you ever watched QI? If that's not Doctor material I don't know what is. His minor part in V for Vendetta was good too.) would become Doctor. Alas I fear I am outnumbered in my thinking.

#42 Apr 23rd, 8:22am
werewulf

I am no expert on the old series. I barely know anything about it other than the fourth doctor had a kick ** scarf, and doctors one through seven had a severly impaired taste in clothes (except for 4) I think that it really does matter now that the doctor remains relatively good looking, not just for the fangirls but nowadays, it would be really sketchy for some old guy to come in and save the world then want to travel with some younger woman. David tennant has been such a success because he is able to pull off the doctors sense of charm and wit WIthout the sketchy factor coming in.

I hope that love would play less of a main part in the series but with series 4 that has most definately been established.

YOu are most definately outnumbered in your thinking about looks not mattering, sorry mate but its a fangirls world, ur just living in it. :-)

Ah fourth how I do miss his rein.... makes me want to eat a jelly bean.

Well does a girl have to be a companion? It could be a guy. Or an older woman. And really again the Doctor is meant to be able to pull off being a guide, being this witty, magnificent savior yet oh so cynical who you can't stop watching. The thought of romance is meant to be a choice. Many Doctors have a Farther/Daughter relationship with their companions. And the whole thing about the Doctor as you're not meant to believe this man can save the world. But then he does. And he does it in an amazing way. Tennant has been a success with the younger generation, and with me (Though I am in the younger generation I watched Doctor Who since childhood) to be honest but many Older Whofans would disagree and say that Tennant has not been the best of the Doctors as he has not quite pulled off the wit factor as well as the others something he is indeed, if only minorly, lacking in.

I do in fact find it strange how many fangirls have flocked to Doctor Who. Traditionally Doctor Who was more of a guy thing, this one man who travelled in time and space and used his wit to fight these oh so cool aliens and you got to see people die. And let's not forget the companions... but then Ninth and Tenth came along and because they were younger Doctors I think this attracted more female fans. But I still think an Older Doctor is the wiser choice, regain the lost territory. Less Romance and "Screwdriver does everthing" and more wit and talking down to the whole human race.

#44 Apr 23rd, 2:06pm
lasweetie

I would be upset if the Doctor was saying "stupid humans!" all the time. I think that it's better when the Doctor marvels at our stupidity and our perseverance. When he does that, I get sorta inspired, it's nice to have the idea that some being, fictional or not, thinks that it's amazing how we survive. You know?

The age of the Doctor seems fine to me in the mid to late thirties. Because now show demographics are SO crucial to a show making it to another season, and producers want both a young audience and an older audience. Obviously a twenty-year old man traipsing around the universe with his sexy twenty year old companion isn't going to interest older fans, while a sixty year old man gallavanting around with a twenty year old isn't going to bring in younger fans. So it's a delicate balance with the age.

And this is totally off topic but... I think that more girls being interested in Doctor Who isn't because the last two Doctors were "sexy", though I'm sure that helped. I attribute it to the fact that SciFi is becoming more gender neutral all around. More and more you see women into Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, etc. Even a few years ago, my girl-friends never watched SciFi shows, and now, it's almost like it's en vogue to be geeky.

#45 Apr 23rd, 3:11pm

I agree with lasweetie on this one. A middle-aged Doctor is a nice balance for the older and younger audiences and show demographics are very crucial now (at least in here in America---my favorite US show, a fantasy/thriller show called Supernatural which centers on two twenty-something brothers on the road killing monsters, ended up with the network coming in and adding two hot girls because they wanted to attract more male viewers in the 18-49 demographic).

I've been a sci-fi/fantasy geek since January 1997 (I was seven) when my dad took me to see the remastered, re-released version of Star Wars. I know quite a few girls who are into that sort of thing. I think that the popularity of the Harry Potter series and the Lord of the Rings films has also made fantasy/sci-fi a more mainstreamed genre and so more girls are more open about liking it and find themselves enjoying it today than they have in the past.

I also get really geeky about historical fiction, so when I found Doctor Who on YouTube (I'd been looking for episodes of Torchwood to see what the fuss was about and found DW by extension), I was like, "I'm in heaven!" Are there any other historical fiction geeks here?

Jack harkness was a guy companion in the new series and he was the first openly gay one. I like cynancism but as a girl in the new generation of scifi I really can't see it as being just a guy thing. I mean the idea of a bloody amazing guy going around space and time and saving the world and travelling with some person whether girl or guy is kinda appealing to anyone. Isn't this show made for younger kids anyway? I wish it was a little more like torchwood sometimes, I mean you can only go so far with no blood or sex, but I wouldn't want to ruin the pure innoncent adventure vibe it gives off either. I wish I had been able to watch doctor who since childhood but he new series in 2005 and I am not three. I can understand why an old man would not be as enthralled with a sexy scotsman as the doctor as a group of teenage girls might be. I personally think doctor who is one of the closest things on tv to a live action anime and theirs fangirls for that. As society has evolved to become more gender nuetral, so has sci fi and other things that attract ecentric dorks.

So long as the Doctor indicates on how superior he is I don't care much if he mocks us or marvels at us. Just so long as he keeps a distinction.

But you see the New Doctors have been losing the older audience. In comparison to the Old Series the number of older viewers has decreased largely which is another reason why just for the 11th we should have an older Doctor. The Whofans who have watched the older series will largely agree with me that we need some agened wisdom. That's the marvelous thing with Doctor Who, it's so easy to even out his character as he can regenerate! So we've had the action packed "Brilliant" and the slightly silly but still "Going down" Doctor and they were great but I think now is the time for some agened wisdom and cynicism. Some actual wit.

Ah another thing the newer series lacked. Gore. Okay so back then they didn't have realistic gore, but hey they showed somebody getting shot! And the Daleks took out a whole room with one blast. And sex? Really? You know Doctor Who is now called a "Sci-fi drama" because of all the damn romance? I liked it when it was plain "Sci-fi". I think Torchwood serves for the sex part of the Whoniverse.
