Storyline: Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko live in Ba Sing Se in this story (although they aren't born there, they have to at least have been living there since they were 2 or 3.) At this time, there is much talk about a plague that is sweeping the rest of the world. Although they worry about it, the five of them never really think it will reach them in Ba Sing Se.

But soon, Aang and Iroh catch the plague. Toph’s parents pull her out of the city, and Sokka seems to be coming down with it himself. Katara and Zuko (who have never gotten along) have no choice but to go to travel to the Fire Nation (whick is more advancedin everything, including medicine) together to try to find something that will help stop the illness.

But once they do arrive there, they find no cure, and Ba Sing Se is not allowing them back into the city. The Fire Nation is not allowing anyone to travel there from other countries in order to try and stop the spread of the plague. Zuko and Katara are evacuated to the South Pole, where the plague is raging.

When they arrive, they find that the sickness had reached everyone. There are almost no people in the entire country not dying of it. Forced to take shelter with a family of four (a mother and three children), all sick with the plaque, Zuko and Katara find out they had more in common than they ever realized.

Required Quotes:

Katara: Do you think that the Fire Nation will really have a cure?

OC: If you thought there were a lot of the sick ones in the Fire Nation, just wait until you see the Water Tribe. Almost everyone’s dead or dying.

Katara: Do you think they’re okay?

Zuko: You mean back in Ba Sing Se?

Katara: Yeah.

Zuko: I don’t know.

Aang: (After they get back) You and Zuko went on that trip and didn’t rip each other’s heads off! What made you change your mind about him?

Rules:

1. You can think of a name for the plague (preferred) or you can just call it the plague.

2. If you decide to make it a Zutara, don’t have their relationship grow too quickly. Remember: they don’t even like each other in this story, so don’t have them suddenly fall in love as soon as they’re alone together.

3. There has to be some explanation for why Katara and Zuko were in Ba Sing Se.

4. Please don’t make this a oneshot. It would really stink if it were all squeezed into one chapter. I know that most people won’t even think about making it into a oneshot, but still.

5. You must say that I made the challenge.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO MAKE THIS A ZUTARA! It could just be a friendship! But I’m guessing if anyone tries this they’re going to want to make it a Zutara anyway. It’s okay, just as long as the romance between them doesn’t get out of control.

There can be bending, althought there won't be very good healing, since evryone's dying of the plague and it is AU to the show, but it doesn't have to be modern or anything.
