Forums wise: I'm still in the process of formatting a reference guide to the DOA history and have to update the DOA4 ending sections as well. Once this is done, people can just pop in there to get an idea of what happens.

OnimushaY's section is worth mentioning. I'm in the process of collaborating with another writer on a couple DOA fics and so far it's been a blast to work on.

Red Eye's section is great for general stuff.

Much as most people have different pairings and the like, I think one common aim we all have is to improve as writers so a group of people asking for and offering help to each other would be nice.

I've been meaning to review your story for the longest time now, because it actually took a lot of energy to finish reading that monster of a fic you posted, which I don't normally have the pleasure of doing (reading long one shots). I was completely spent after reading, and I usually leave longer than average reviews, so I decided to hold off. But was that a one shot? I guess the sequel is going to be completely separate instead of another chapter.

Anyways, people on fanfiction.net aren't as "cultish" and extremely established/tight knit as you seem to interpret, they're pretty cool overall. :P But especially in the DOA category, I know there are a lot of great writers who actually leave helpful constructive reviews as compared to fluffy, nice-but-useless reviews you might get elsewhere. Hope to see more of your writing, as I really am always looking for new stuff to read!

In all honesty, it might be the length of the story that throws people off. They might not even take the time to read it because they can't sit down and read more than 4000 words at a time. Personally, oneshots are my favorite! But a lot of people like chaptered stories because they can read chunks and come back to the next chapter later if they're short on time. But I definitely will be checking out your next story, which I'm sure will have as much crazy action as in your first story! :P

I'm the author of 'English Summer Rain.' A Christie/Helena fic I've been working on for almost one and a half years now.

I think one of the problems in the DoA category is that reviews are rather rare compared to other categories, even though the characters are just as interesting or even moreso than in other games! Also, DoA is yuri-heaven - all the girls are hot and unattached. I still want to write a DoA HS-AU with a ton of yuri pairings one of these... years. ^_~

I enjoy the DoA category, but I think it generally generates very little respect and interest from people more familiar with other fandoms. DoA has an image of being a mindless game about jiggling boobs, and while I'd generally call that comment false since there is much more to DoA than boobs only, I can't deny DOAX:BV was rather silly. And, the Games section is still one of the smaller sections on ff.net! *cries*

Helena and Christie are still two oddly delicious characters, though. In every sense of the word. ^^

1) What exactly are the intentions of the bad boys? Who are they? And who are their followers (and what are their individual aims, dreams and goals)? They've been at it ever since the first DOA, and I doubt they're about to give up whatever the Heaven it is they're planning.

2) What is the basis of Ayane hating Kasumi? From what I could tell so far, they were close when they were children. When they grew up, I see a Witch Hunt being carried out. Now, I know that Kasumi disobeyed her Clan Elders by going off on her own, but what were her reasons? What was she trying to do? Nobody goes about angering an entire clan capable of making sure you disappear from the face of Creation. And so far, what is it (outside of survival) is Kasumi's final goal?

3) If there is a flaw (if any) in the entire DOA storyline, what is it? Good writers need to know in order to stepping onto the minefield. I've never played it...and as such, made my own assumptions (which makes a baka out of me), and made my own timeline and settings to work with.

I wouldn't worry about the followers too much, just the big fish. The end boss has changed from game to game, but were there one 'villian' at whom the finger could be pointed, it would be Victor Donovan. In some way or form, he has had something to do with the less than honourable intentions of DOATEC. DOATEC is the organisation that captured Hayate, the leader of the Mugen Tenshin clan in an (unsuccessful) attempt to turn him into a mindless puppet for their own intentions. They also captured his sister after the first DOATEC tournament and had her cloned in yet another attempt to create the perfect weapon. They captured Genra, the leader of the Hajin Mon Faction in the Mugen Tenshin clan and successfully brainwashed him for their own purposes. Finally, in DOA4, they reused Kasumi's DNA to create yet another destructive human weapon codenamed Alpha-152, somwhat of a cross between a human and a ghost. By all the above, you can probably figure out what it is DOATEC are all about. Victor Donovan was killed by Ryu Hayabusa at the conclusion of the fourth game however.

Ayane's hatred stems largely from jealousy. Partly because Hayate always spent more time with Kasumi than her (and rightly so as they were siblings) and Ayane has a secret crush on Hayate, and partly because Kasumi was always treated better than her, a princess in a sense because of her birthright (daughter of the leader of the Mugen Tenshin Clan). After Hayate was comatosed in the battle between Raidou and him, Kasumi decided that she couldn't just let Raidou walk free and set out on a personal vendetta to find him. This is strictly against the Shinobi code, as anyone who abandons the clan is automatically branded a traitor (for fear of spreading secrets) and hunted down to be terminated without exception.

Kasumi's final goal IMO is to run. She realises she cannot return to the clan, but at the same time she cannot leave the forest as her brother Hayate has the mission of hunting her down (against his will) and being unable to find her would result in him having failed said mission. In a sense, they're caught in a circle of a Cat and Mouse chase as Hayate doesn't wish to kill her and she doesn't want him to fail. So he keeps chasing her (prob making it a little easier for her) and she keeps running just one step ahead of him and his hunters. At least, that's the case up to the end of DOA III. (I stress - My opinion).

Hehe...there are always flaws in ANY storyline and loopholes exist everywhere in the DOA one. I've read your one fic on DOA (I'm sure you've spotted that thesis I popped on by now :P) and I think you have the capability to look past that and create something beautiful out of what you already have. That said, you spot a flaw, just fix it. Step on a mine? Wouldn't necessarily keep walking - disarm it first then continue. Let me know if you're worried about what you're stepping on - I should be able to tell you ;)

If you know the relationships between Hayate and Kasumi, Hayate and Ayane, Kasumi and Ayane, and all three with Ryu Hayabusa, you've got plenty for a fic.

DOA wise, I've got a ton of projects that I've summaries for.

There's one I've had in my head with Ryu Hayabusa as the central char, First person, shifting through diary entries in a sense but in reverse chronological order through six or so chapters. More of an experiment than anything else. Got to take a lot of care with this.

Another one with two of the main four shinobi doing a little...well...overseas travel shall we say...and getting into a little hot water during that. Also involves another one of the chars from the game, but not really in a tournament setting.

Yet another I've got also with Ryu Hayabusa dealing with personal issues (I don't even write Ryu that much, or like him that much as he's an arrogrant prick IMO) and things from his past. Prob a two chapter thing, no more.

Last one's also a bit of an experiment, one half high school fic (yeah - believe it), one half horror. Two genres in fanfiction that often take such a beating because it's rare to find a decently done fic within them.

Of the four I have posted (and as yet remain incomplete), one's likely to become a three-part monster of about 12 chapters each.

Well, that's a quick summary of what's on the plate and in the kitchen, DOA wise.

Anyways Yea Donavan would be the big bad wolf in this story. It was obvious he was in the air craft Ryu shot down at the end of DOA4. Alpha got away etc etc. There's a lot of details buried about DOA that you have to really dig for which is why i'd suggest talking to someone hardcore DOA over an instant messenger.

ANYWAYS I'ma have to read up on all you's guys fanfics eventually it's been a good while since i've read someone elses work. Kochan1 I've got a fanfic that speaks from the first person but changes characters every chapter currently unfinished as well called Crippled Truth of the Third Child. I took great care in it and pretty much tried to make it one of my best written fanfics which im pretty sure I did. The one thing to be most concerned with is context of your wording and the grammar which i dont think i even did right. But it still worked out. It's actually quite a difficult task to type a story from the 1st person persepective.

I've got 4 fanfics as well. All of which (besides the one shot) are unfinisehd.

One of them is my first fanfic which has the most flaws especially chapter 5 which i plan to change. My second fanfic is my beast based around Ayane being changed into a Pixie overnight without her knowing and against her will. the 3rd is my Crippled Truth fanfic i spoke of earlier which centers around Ayane being in a permanent injury and is done from the 1st person perspective jumping characters every chapter. And my 4th is my one shot.

I actually have developed several ideas over the past years. One of which I'm thinking I'm willing to just give to someone else if their willing to jump and take it where Hayate one day revceives word that both Ayane and Kasumi have been captured by DOATEC and they've each been taken to two seperate parts of the world. He has a choice if he so chooses to save Ayane they will kill Kasumi. If he chooses to save Kasumi then they will torture and torment Ayane before eventually turning her into one of their puppets which thanx to Hayates decision would require no brainwashing. Just something i've thought about and played with in my head a bit but never put down anywhere. I have other ideas as well but I'm tired so i'll come back and see what you guys say and think.

And yes I'm a huge Ayane fan all my fanfics are about her bare with me.

And, believe me...even with Donovan gone, there're plenty of other maniacs and morons in the DOA world who want to harness such power to have a better leverage against their rivals - or have an ace in the hole when things get hairy.

I have an idea at the back of my head regarding a sequel(s) to my DOA fanfic, and grouping the whole lot under a single title. I'll figure that out as soon as I get it down. One sequel will be a Hayate-Ayane pairing, and the other will be from the POV of their daughter. But first...proper planning and drafts. I need to make it sound right.

That's alright. There's quite a few different opinions and interpretations of the story about, otherwise, I don't think we'd have the diversity of fanfiction we have on here ^^

To me, Jealousy denotes hostility towards a rival and/or one believed to enjoy an advantage. For the latter, it applies regardless whether or not the person is entitled to. The point is that they are upset because they WANT something they don't have/can't get. Granted, It's a strong emotion, but one quite commonplace and appropriate to how I see Ayane's char. I certainly don't see it as being all evil and dark.

Birthrights wise though, It's Shiden who was the 17th leader of the Mugen Tenshin, not Ayame. The way Japanese Families work, it's being Shiden's daughter that makes Hayate and Kasumi of that special lineage as far as I'm concerned. Still, had the villagers known she was Ayame's daughter, they wouldn't have treated her like a nobody.

The villagers never knew (and prob still don't) because a rape like what happened to Ayame is usually not common knowledge amongst the clan (esp considering the Japanese) and from how I interpret it, much as everyone would have known about her third pregnancy (Hard to hide that bump), the true fate of the child would never have been made known to too many others.

In the end, Ayane wasn't so much neglected as given to someone else to raise: A kind old man who lived outside of the main village. She didn't know any better - It's not so much what you have that counts, it's what you do with it. That's until Ayame chose to tell Ayane of how she was her daughter but I'll save that for another time. After that point, as it says in the manual, she lived in the shadow of Kasumi and not surprising that you'd develop a certain dislike for the person who blocks you from the sun (unintentionally) for half your life. The fact that you share the same mother prob wouldn't help.

On a side note, I often wonder if Hayate and Kasumi know about them sharing the same mother as Ayane and much as most would say, 'Duh, how could they not?' there's never been anything to suggest that they ARE aware of it. Profiles list it down but that doesn't mean the chars themselves know of it. Nevertheless, even I myself began writing with them aware and that's prob how it's going to stay.

Once again, my opinion.

Usually the grammar and wording context is something I find I've got to edit through in the second and third drafts. I find myself tending to juggle stuff like imagery and character about quite a bit till I get them right. Dialogue has to be chopped down to bare minimum and in the end, if the bloody story doesn't have a voice, I might as well chop one or two parts out and start again :( Ugh...such are the frustrations of writing.

Sounds like an interesting idea for a Hayate fic you have there. At the end of the third act, the protagonist often faces a choice between two things, both of which matter greatly. It's his final choice that shows him for the character he truly is (not so much which girl he saves etc). I'm saying this because I've something similar on a fic summary, though with Hitomi in there to complicate things as well ;) Of course, I already know which decision he makes in mine, as do you in yours I'm guessing.

Celerity, Potence and Fortitude…sounds like something out of WoD ^^ With Helena your regular Daughter of Cacophany, Christie as an Assamite, Hitomi and Ein Brujah…ok…I’ll stop there ^^

Agree with the tech and bio-engineering but heck, start of with a good specimen and there’s so much less work to do. Their experimentation also depended on Mind Control rather than just cloning. Donovan was no fool, but had a ways of finding ways to off ppl who didn’t agree with him, or who knew too much, or whatever (The guy hired Bayman to take down his former Employer, then hired someone else to try and flush Bayman himself – didn’t work though).

As for someone else using that research, the DOATEC Tri-Towers were destroyed at close of DOA4 (along with Donovan himself, years of research, researchers and other poorly paid employees…save for the lucky ones who called in sick or took leave) and seeing as TI wanted a close to the series, there seems to be a certain finality about that particular saga.

Hmm…a fic based on the child of two characters from a pairing. Wow, I don’t think I could do something like that myself…good luck though ^^;

That is true that Shiden is the true leader and she really isn't related to him. But I dont think she's mad because she wasnt counted as a leader herself. I think she's just mad because they treaterd her like dirt. Had they treated her with more respect things would have turned out much differently. Perhaps Ayane and Kasumi would hve still been friends.

In the distant future on a cold night Ayane felt a chill as she stood looking over the village that she resided. Kasumi had asked to see her... She had a feeling she knew why. The cats out of the bag. Ayame was going to tell her... She heard footsteps behind her. Turning around to face Kasumi whom was out of breath. She had an almost depressed expression on her face as she panted from running to the Hajin Mon Village. "wh...Why didn't you tell me..."

Ayane smiled. "We've been friends since we were kids. I didn't want that to change..."

Something like that could have happened. Instead its Ayane wanting to KILL her! However... the way DOA4 ended left something up in the air. Ayane may very well have no interest in killing Kasumi anymore. Maybe things are finally settled between them.

As for the fanfic idea I had all that happens at the begining of the entire fanfic. Just bam he gets the letter and is given those options. I forgot to mention that it would say that if he inlisted the aid of Ryu or anyone else they both die. But alas I cant do this fanfic as I have other projects I'm working on. So I'm throwing it up in the air for grabs if anyone wants the idea. I've got other things tow ork on like finishing what I got and my... "New Fanfic" I'm working on. Which takes place after DOA4 going by certain assumptions.

Doomed to live in Kasumis shadow is what it says.. or destined I dont remember. But I think that has changed since Ayane isn't just a side character anymore like she was played off to be or so i think she was. Also remember Ayane waaaaaas ordered to kill her. It's not like she has a choice. lol But since Genra is dead and Hayate seems intent on not hurting Kasumi why not.

ALSO concerning AyanexHayate. This is me.. but I'm fairly confident that its not love... I'm not saying dont do the fanfics that's fine go ahead I'm just gonna get this out of the way. It says in the DOAUltimate Manual she has a deep "Admiration" for Hayate. You must remember that to her he is the brother she never had. There's a big difference between admiration and love. And even if it is love it may be just that she loves him as a brother since she never had one. And there may be a reason she hates Kasumi and nto Hayate. Maybe hayate actually cares for her and she just feels abandoned by Kasumi. But anyways I don't think their an item in the actual story. xD

Hmm, thing about the villagers knowing that Raidou being Ayane's father is that if they knew who her father was, they'd certainly know who her mother was. And everything that the villagers know, Hayate and Kasumi are bound to know. Way I see it, Shiden and Ayame, maybe even Genra would have known...but few others...if any. Ayane herself might have worked it out after she was told what she was by Ayame, but that's not confirmed :P

The credits mention Ayane's Uncle but that's prob more a literal translation from Japanese being 'Ayane no Oji-san' where 'Oji-san' can mean a related uncle or just a generic title for an older gentleman. The partial secrecy bit was more akin to her training in the Hajin Mon Faction I'd be guessing.

The villagers treated her like dirt alright...I think that's because to them, she was just some random 'orphaned' girl living outside of the village playing with their precious little princess though.

Once Genra was captured by DOATEC, I think Ayane pretty much didn't care for taking Kasumi down because in a sense she was doing what Kasumi had before (following her heart rather than her duty). End DOA4, it's quite clear (at least to me) that they're still rivals, but Ayane doesn't care provided Kasumi doesn't get in her way of things.

Agree on the NON-pairing thing on just about ANY relationship in DOA to a certain extent. DOA2 manual was a more direct translation of the Japanese manual which mentioned that she 'yearned' for Hayate. Thanks to Western censors, they decided to change that to 'deep admiration'. Hayate doesn't seem to return that though. His affection for her in the stages through DOA4 (IMO) stems from a lot of concern and respect for what she's pledged to him (which is great I think).

Well, it's always been a popular concept for video game bosses. Dural from Virtual Fighter, Raidou from the very 1st game. Then someone recently went and took that idea and made a VERY poor film out of it.

Ryu Hayabusa's most powerful moves come from three things as far as I've concerned: Ninpo, Fiend blood and the dragon sword. The combination of the latter two combine for the ultimate techniques he uses in the finally battles and neither of them can be copied as per the dopplegangers in NG Black.

And if DOATEC wasn't truly gone it'd be, quite simply, whipping a dead horse (IMO). Self destruct mechanisms are usually implanted for the purpose of preventing the capture of secrets and research by the enemy and I tend to think any underground labs should have been taken care of by Helena's Big Red button :P And it's reckoning that if TI knows what good for him, he'll concentrate on the NG series and only dabble here and there on DOA with the extreme series/cronus etc.

It's not clear (like a lot of other stuff) what happened to 152. It might have been recalled by Donovan into that ship he was attempting to escape in for all we know. Kokoro's mother was one's of Fame Douglas's mistresses so she's Helena's half sister in a sense. Neither of them were ever involved in a malicious sense as far as I'm concerned but there could be something interesting with their relationship in Doax II. Once again who knows?
