Topic: Finished Line!
Okay, I asked Arm about making this thread...thought it'd be a cool idea. She was all for it, and I'm sure you will be too.

This thread is similar to Self-Plug, but it's a little different. This thread will be for posting about how you finished a chapter, a one-shot, a multi-chaptered fic, getting over your writer's block...anything along those lines so we can whoop, holler, and cheer each other on. You can link the chapter, link the fic, whatever you like. It's all gravy. This thread will be stickied. So...please feel free to throw yourself a party in this thread whenever you've finished something in your fic. Even if it's just a section of a chapter you've been working on, that was dragging or giving you a hard time...that's totally fine. Be sure to mention the fandom it's for, the genre, a brief summary if you will...that way we can learn about each other's different fandoms and tastes. We are all here because we love to write and read, and it helps to keep an open mind to what we all like/dislike, and our different tastes. Makes us one big happy family! :)

So post!

How do I link from my documents? I have uploaded a chapter that I finally finished, but I haven't posted it yet to fanfiction.net. Can I link it right from my documents?

Welcome to the forum, Maryilee! :) I hope you'll post with us.

You have to upload and post the document to FFN in order to link it. You won't be able to do it from the documents.

Okay, here is a link to chapter three of my story. It is an Early Edition fic. I had a really hard time getting the level of intensity I wanted. It's almost what I envisioned, though I wish it were even more intense. Oh well, that is what the edit feature is for, right? :-)

Chapter 3

The story is entitled "Fallout". I hope you don't mind, I edited your post to reflect the next chapter. But here's the original url you put up.

Yay, congrats on posting your new chapter! I'll edit your post so that it reflects the new chapter you posted. Yeah, sometimes when we write...it doesn't come off as we pictured it. But leave that to your readers to decide too.

I'll get this one rockin!

The latest chapter of my fic Broken took me a bit over two months to finish. I really don't know why either, I was just horribly blocked. I'd sit and stare at the console and not know what to type... drove my insane. Eventually after a sentence here, a sentence there, some changes, and two months of banging my head I finally got it released. It's received positive reviews, which is good because I really didn't know how well that chapter would turn out.

All in all I am overjoyed that chapter is shipped out and keeping my readers hooked. Now I can focus on the rest of the story. Hooray for me!

Congrats on getting your chapter uploaded, TI. Writer's block can be a royal pain, but at least you overcame and was able to finish your fic. Much to your delight and your readers' delight.

Ooh, this sounds like an awesome idea! I'm always interested in knowing what the authors of fics think they need help on, because then it helps me to figure out what their strong and weak points are. I'm an editor at heart, and, especially when it comes to fanfiction, I love to practise figuring out how to make helpful comments.

As for me, I've not gotten anything done at the moment. Well, I have made a major break through in research, because I'm a stickler for historical accuracy. It was very exciting, because I've been trying to find information on Roma (more commonly known as gypsies) and what time period the events in Mercedes Lackey's The Black Swan kind of reflect. Recently I've found the last thing I needed - a timeline - and now I'm going to start writing the story. It's a huge accomplishment for me, but unfortunately nobody yet can see the fruits of my labors. =] I'll post more updates later. And I'll definitely be keeping an eye on everybody else around here for great fanfic.

Checked my stats and was greeted by this review to the aforementioned chapter:

Wonderful chapter, showing Reia finally has come to terms with who she is and is using her talents to help others. Certainly an inspiration and well written. My compliments.

Somebody gets it!!! The readers see and understand the point I was trying to make! Sassy, you and I discussed this a while back whilst I was working on the chapter, seems that I hit my target dead on.

That makes the entire two months I spent on that chapter worthwhile. NefCanuk... you're one of my best readers, my hat's off to you!

BobKitten,

If you enjoy editing, you'd make a great beta-reader. Not too long ago, someone on here was looking around for a beta reader. Just something to keep in mind.

A stickler for historical accuracy? That's good. Especially if you want your fic to reflect the truth of what happened in the past. It's a fun way to learn about history too. I have a friend on here who loves history, so I'm sure she'd be with you on this. Congrats on getting your info and timeline together. It'll pay off as you write your fic!

---

Time Incursion,

Congrats on your new review. I know you were working hard on completing that chapter. I totally understand how great it is when your readers get the point that you were trying to bring across. So congrats for you too! :)

I just recently finished typing up my first Harry Potter fanfic that I was willing to post anywhere.

It's a one-shot, and I'm proud of how I handled it. It's called Broken, and I think I wrote Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy wonderfully in-character, given the situation. There are warnings with this piece, though. It IS slash and it's also a rapefic. Since those topics are rather touchy, I figured I'd give a warning now before people go to click on it and then later complaining about the mature content. Also, the rape isn't handled in typical fangirl fashion; it is meant to break the victim, as rape has a tendency to do.

And that's about it. ^^ Hopefully Broken will do well, as it is my first HP fanfic. I want to be welcomed into the fandom; not kicked out of it. lol

Good for you, Sassy! :-) Don't you love that sense of accomplishment you get from finishing a chapter or, even better, a whole fic?

I'm kinda proud of myself for finishing a chapter last week. I had a lot of emotional stuff going on IRL(death in the family), but writing seemed to take my mind off of it for awhile.

Thanks Maryilee and Time Incursion! :)

I'm really sorry to hear about the death in your family, Maryilee. You should be proud of yourself too. Writing can definitely take your mind off the stresses of life, I totally know how that goes. Please feel free to plug up here about your finished chapter.

Oh and I definitely I love that feeling. And if it brings me closer to the end product, then I'm even more thrilled. When it comes to a whole fic...it's an awesome feeling, esp if it's multi-chaptered--those can take so much time so...trust me, when this fic is done...I'm gonna treat myself out to a nice dinner. :) You should do the same. ;)

OMG! I think I finished my fic! I just sent it to my beta reader, so I may need to revise a bit, but I'm so excited! LOL! It's my first fic I've written since my daughter was born and she just turned six, just to put it in perspective.

Also, this story is almost entirely about the emotions of the main character whereas my other stories had more action, which is easier for me to write, so this presented a bit of a challenge for me. And, to top it all off, I wrote my first romantic scenes! Yikes! Nothing too heavy, I tried to keep it PG, but, even so, I had to fortify myself with a couple of glasses of wine to write the very last scene.;-)

So, Yay Me! Woo-hoo! :-D Off to polish off my bottle of wine!

Wow! Congrats Maryilee! :)

Please feel free to post a link here, once you upload your story. It's always a great feeling to finish a fic, especially since you've labored on it for so long. And you also tried something new: writing about emotions vs. action. I think you can do both, but if you're used to writing one way, and then experimenting with another, that can really help you grow as a writer. Congratulations! :)

P.S.

I sent you a pm. ;)

I'm so happy I was actually able to finish something that I started writing! ^_^ Granted, it's a fanfiction but it's still fiction nonetheless (I have trouble writing fiction). Anyway, it's a Scooby Doo (romanace, I guess) fic and I have lots of ideas for it, so I'm excited to continue with it.

I would muuuuchly muchly appreciate reviews/comments-- that would be way cool.

(summary: Daphne relizes that what her boyfriend has to offer may not be what is important to her in a romantic relationship.) ]

Grr!! I am having the worst time with this stupid website! I can't make a link to my story ;_; Could some one who has been here longer help me, possibly? Sorry, but as of now, if you want to read my story you'll just have to go through my userpage because I can't make a link. --;

A few weeks ago I got a reminder (read a review) that I still hadn't figured out the timing in chapter three. I decided to just type up the story I had written so far and continue from there. I ended up with one mention of the time and all the rest is left up to the readers imagination. So now I'm curious if readers have the same idea of when the last event in the chapter takes place as I have.

Stories of the street - chap 3 or Stories of the street - from the begining

First link is to the relevant chapter I just finished; second link is to the first chapter of said story. (Rated T for violence)

I just posted a short one shot from the new tv show, Friday Night Lights. This one has an interesting little story to go with it. The fic began as a beginner for a round-robin on a fan forum. A few days after it was posted, on a different forum, an extra for the show had posted a funny tidbit about the actor who stars in the series. The actor had kept flubbing his lines, and since the scene involved a bunch of football players, he apparently felt comfortable sharing why he was so distracted. He said that he had been thinking about taking a shower with his wife.

Gulp! If you read the fic, you'll see why that comment kind of freaked me out! He said it a few days after I had posted my story.

(I'm trying to put the link here, but I don't know if I'm doing it right. The button for the link never seems to work for me, so I tried writing my own html code. If it doesn't work, I guess you can just click on my name and find it under my bio. Sorry! The story is called, "Lucky")

Lucky

*EDIT* I fixed it for you, Maryilee. Just remember: [s:StoryID:Story Title] :)

Around December I put up this story, and even though it's only one chapter so far, it's still my baby (considering I edited twice after the original posting).

Now, I'll be honest with you guys, I did a ton of research for this piece. I read through all of the Hellsing issues so far, watched the first season of the anime, and even re-read Dracula (I completely forgot how slow that book reads). So even though I had the first chapter planned out way in advance, it wasn't until about a month later that I actually posted it as I wanted to finish all my research first.

Now, what you've all been waiting for...the chapter link!

Chapter 1 of Lab Specimen: I

I finally updated, Sassy! Been a LONG time coming. I received my first two reviews on it and they are quite positive ^_^ I hope to be able to post the next one soon, I've already got the rest of the storyline brewing in my head.

I must admit that I was worried about losing some readers with all the time that has passed since my last update, but my diehards are starting to pop up and leave their comments. I'm happy to see that they have waited patiently.

Anywho, my story link is in a previous post in this thread. Give 'er a read, see whatcha think!

Congrats on finally updating and getting two positive reviews!

I'm always afraid of losing readers after a long time between updates. But there's always one or two who stick around to still read your story. Keep up the good work!
