Born2BbadTopic: Miss Galinda/Glinda, the Good Witch of the North If there was ever a place to discuss the girl who tried to "Galindafy" Elphaba, it's here. Remember, no flames. |

Kennedy Leigh MorganOh for goodness sake...I had this whole groovy thing typed up and then I hit the stupid back button. Blonde moment much? I think I have come to the right place.Anyway, to say what I was saying before, though you of course couldn't see: This thread is quite lonely. So in a desperate attempt to revitalize it (because I'm sure the thread's namesake is all for revitalization) I shall attempt to start a discussion, with a question: Ahem...Which Witch? Do you like BookGlinda or MusicalGlinda better? And do your opinions vary, for instance would you rather write BookGlinda and read MusicalGlinda, or vice versa? Personally I like MusicalGlinda better. She's a much more round/dimensional character in the musical, in my opinion. She's the one who really makes a change and takes a journey from the beginning to the end of the story. I love where she says "But if you'd let me I'd like to try to help. I'd like to try to be...Glinda the Good." And I love that in the musical she has an equal part to Elphaba. In the book she's so unimportant, aside from being the occasional comedic relief and Elphaba's friend and opposite she doesn't really have a purpose. Which is basically the only thing in the book that I didn't like, I love the character Elphaba, she's such a phenomenally strong character in both book and musical, but she has no foil, no opposite/match in the book and that was disappointing. For me at least. Anyhoo...what say you? |

Born2BbadHey, that's a good point. Galinda/Glinda barely exists in the book...neither do most of the people from **, but still...anyway, I really love both versions of the characters, personally. :) And thanks for the "revitalization". |

Saran VDYAY GLINDA! Sorry.Anyway, I prefer musicalglinda definately. She's so much more of a character, in a way, because in the musical, you get to see so many different sides of her. I think that applies for Fiyero and Elphaba, too. |
|
Lemurian-GirlI love musical Glinda. Overall, she a much more fun character, and, as Saran VD said, you get to see the different sides of her. |

wicked-distractionPersonally I like the Book G(a)linda better than the musical G(a)linda. I think you see more of a change in her in the book. There are more interactions with the rest of the characters, and I think it shows a more drastic change in her behavior towards things as the book goes on.I love how Gregory Maguire portrays his characters, but I especially like how G(a)linda was written, just they way he had her act, and think.....She's a very interesting and complex character in the book, where as in the muscical she kind of displays her emotions on her sleave...there isn't as much depth into the character. And that just has to do with a time frame they had to fill....they couldn't very well have a four hour long musical :) Don't get me wrong...I'm in love with the musical G(a)linda, but i prefer the book G(a)linda. But thats just me. |

MuchTooHighACostTo be honest, I haven't read the book in about 3 months so I don't remember the particulars of Book Galinda, only that I liked her. Musical Galinda is nice too, but I think the way she is portrayed in the musical just isn't fair. In the book I liked her a lot better... maybe because it was really descriptive, and she was such a real character, like someone you know... I honestly cannot say cause it's been awhile *shame* but I definetly liked book Galinda better. She wasn't a total airhead and she had a sense of humor.| #8 Aug 24th 2007, 12:51pm

Sae13I like musical G(a)linda. At first, she's real funny and cute. (Though you hate her for tricking Boq.) Then, you see her transform into a mature woman in the 2nd act. I just wanted to throw my arms around her after the "Fiyero Fiasco" as I call it. I love G(a)linda!| #9 Dec 29th 2007, 8:15pm . Edited Dec 29th 2007, 9:23pm
