allykat81Topic: Disappointments So don't be mistaken by the title of this thread this is more of if you could have done something differently with Darkwing Duck the show obviously other than keeping it on the air. I mean what would you have liked to see expanded on? New villains, more episodes of some villains who didn't get as many episodes? For me I would have liked to see more development between Darkwing and Gosalyn. I also would have like to see a cross-over with DuckTales personally I would have loved to see Scrooge and DW face off. Also I would have loved to see another episode of the Negaverse with more Nega versions of DWD and Ducktales characters. I know there is a story on here that had the Negaverse storyline with some Ducktales charcters in it. Any other ideas? |

loonytunecrazyHow about a team up between the steelminator and negaduck but I agree that a ducktales/ darkwing crossover could be inresting |

allykat81For some reason, although I think it would have been an awesome episode or episodes I could just picture the two of them 'trying' to work together. I think one of them would kill the other becuase both would wnat to be the one in charge. Good one! |

MaskedKittenI think the adult in me would like to have seen a less comedic take on Darkwing Duck...even as a child, I imagined the show to be darker than it actually was.... I also love the idea of Darkwing and Scrooge interacting. If I can ever get my story started (real life keeps getting in the way!), that's the definite plan. I want to explore the possible dynamics between them. |

alesi257Personnally, I don't think that crossover is really possible, because the 2 shows are so different. Darkwing is very comedic and especially cartoony, whereas Ducktales was always much more realistic and serious. The things that happen to Darkwing -- falling from the sky, getting run over by trucks, getting his head smashed by an anvil, etc. -- would never happen in Ducktales, where the character would be killed outright. That's why I'm always bothered when some say DWD is just a "spinoff" of Ducktales. The intent of the two shows is completely different and Darkwing Duck is, IMO, a show in its own right, entitled to full independence.I think the way they did it, with just a couple of references to Ducktales (mostly Gizmoduck and Launchpad), was appropriate. As for the question asked in this topic, I'm sorry that the show never "wrapped up". The last epi is "Extinct possibility" which could have been anywhere. In that same sense I'm a bit frustrated that there's no continuity in the show. The episodes were shown totally out of order, they didn't even put the shows that introduce each character (Megavolt in "Duck Blind", Quackerjack in "Whiffle while you Work", Morgana in "Fungus Amongus" etc) at the beginning of the first season, they just sticked them randomly in the whole thing. And of course I agree, I would've love to see more Negaverse.. and more Taurus Bulba, who, though impressive as a terminator, was, as a character, somewhat disappointing: he's just a stupid murderous monster. It's justifiable since it was his comeback as he wasn't quite himself, but another episode after he came to his senses would've been so juicy. As for the Darkwing-Gosalyn father-daughter relationship, I noticed that her adoption is never ever mentioned past the pilot. |

MaskedKittenInteresting point, alesi. I think that's one of the reasons I prefer DuckTales to Darkwing. Though I think they could've written a crossover in spite of it, and simply left out such things as DW falling from buildings and crashing into cement only to get back up. When I (hopefully) write my crossover fic, that aspect of DW will be absent. If someone falls from a building and hits the ground, they're not going to simply walk away. I see what you're saying about the 'spinoff' thing, but I've always considered it as originating from DuckTales. While DW is definitely its own, independent show, I believe the idea for it came from a DT episode, and with Launchpad in a supporting role and Gizmoduck guest starring, the shows will always be linked for me. |

alesi257It's true, and I do agree that the shows are linked. I also think that fanfiction, which by definition, takes liberties on the style of the original fiction it's based on, makes a crossover possible. Many DWD fanfics are more serious than the original show, putting the characters in true jeopardy instead of having them just goof around like they do in the cartoon. You're probably familiar with icequeenkitty's DWD fanfics, the last of which was a Ducktales crossover, and it worked fine because the genre of icequeenkitty's writing is not goofy and cartoony at all, but very mature. It's really a cartoon crossover that would've been, in my opinion, impossible. I'm trying to imagine it: it looks unthinkable to have Megavolt or these completely surreal characters show up in Duckburg, where Scrooge is much more used to battling bandits, crooks, evil sorcerers after the same treasures as he is... I think Megavolt and company are incomparable to, say, the Beagle Boys or Glomgold. Even Taurus Bulba -- the most "serious" DWD villain -- is surreal (as Steerminator) and comedic (in all 3 episodes that feature him). If DWD showed up in Duckburg and started his whole "I am the terror..." thing, it would sound to me just out of place. This discrepancy is, I think, very evident in the change in Launchpad's character from the two shows; in DWD, he's much stupider, it seems he only has his place as Darkwing's stupid comic-relief sidekick, instead of the slightly foolish, but bold and resourceful pilot that he is in Ducktales. But in fanfiction, this discrepancy is much more blurred because there's no animation, so there is a big potential for a crossover between the two shows. Another point (I'm not too sure about that one): isn't Ducktales supposed to be in the 50s ? It's somewhat faithfully based on Barks' stuff (which is why it's a great show), and I don't recall any high-tech, post-50s stuff, but I could be wrong. As for Darkwing, it's set in the 90s, the early 90s I guess. In Duck Blind, Gosalyn can be seen dancing as she's listening to a miniwalkman playing a tape instead of an iPod or something. I don't think those were seen before the 80s. | #7 Jul 21st 2007, 12:36am | |

MaskedKittenI can certainly see where you're coming from when it comes to picturing the Fearsome Five crossing over to Duckburg, but at the same time, combining the two shows just interests me. Finding a way to make it work.I've never seen DuckTales as set in the fifties. I've seen it as set in/around the same time frame as Darkwing Duck. I realize that the Carl Banks/Don Rosa timeline doesn't coincide with that, but I don't really think it's supposed to. I see DuckTales as sort of its own version. Based on Barks, but the timeline isn't exactly the same. And if I'm not mistaken, in one episode, Fenton and Scrooge are scene in front of a computer and Fenton's typing on it, which implies that it's set in a more modern day. |
