LuvvyDuckAh, nope. Slash isn't really my cuppa tea. Besides, I always saw Morg as a 'mother' figure for Gosalyn. ~_^| #2 Apr 13th 2006, 11:50am

LordNegaduckFirst, if the slash story is done tastefully I will read it. Roaming Tigress did a very good job with her Slash Trilogy. There is nothing wrong with writing a story about a relationship between two CONSENTING adults. I see a lot of Quackerjack/Megavolt pairings but I wouldn't mind reading about a Darkwing/Lord Negaduck pairing. What ever the author has in mind, he/she is welcome to write about it, as long as he/she gives the potential readers the proper warning that the story may contain slash, there is nothing wrong about writing it--as long as it is between two consenting adults. That goes for all relationships! |
|
OustitiI'm not agains slash, that's for sure. But it isn't my total favorite either. When I meet a slash story and it looks nice or I like the consept I'll read it. Their are some very good slash story's on ff.net. The eg. of QJ and MV is indeed something you ind a lot.( I must say I though some of them were quite cute). So for me it doesn't mather I read every thing and then I make up my mind about liking it or not. I mean how can you say a story is good or bad if you only read the first page? I only judge them when I read it. |

fanfictionfan123Slash is fine with me,but I don't really like lesbian slash, since I'm not a lessy.Male slash is fine with me and I could DEFINITELY see a Megavolt/QuackerJack thing going on.I would suck at writing slash though. |

Heide DeVriesI love slash. That does include femslash. The only problem I have with creating Darkwing slash is that it's Disney. Something inside of me says, "You idiot you're doing something wrong!" everytime I try to slash-up Darkwing. I keep attempting to write slash for Darkwing, the only sucessful one I've completed was a non-explicit slash "what-if" in ORE. I tip my hat to those who can actually write Darkwing slash well. I am still trying to complete a whole slash writing with Dark/Negs that I don't feel like I've chickened out on. As for pairings, I'm a fan of of course Megs/Quackerjack, Neg/Dark and Bushroot/Darkwing/Negs (yes, as a triangle). But I can't find a femslash that I would enjoy... maybe Bellum/Morgana... but they don't know one another hardly at all. | #11 Mar 08th 2007, 6:58pm

LuvvyDuckNot Bellum. PLEASE!!!| #12 Mar 09th 2007, 9:51am

alesi257Hmm I think Bellum could work, actually (sorry). She's not shown in any relationships anyway; although you see her with Hooter a lot, he's much older and probably has a more benevolently paternalistic attitude towards her. Since the "other" scientist of the series is Rhoda Dendron, maybe that pairing could work. Also, it might not be completely true, but I heard that medical/bio students in general were much less shy than other people, they supposedly easily engage in promiscuous activities at parties and other social gatherings (unless non-medical students are present of course), probably because their field makes them much better aware of their body and they lose the socially constructed taboos and inhibitions that usually accompany it. Dendron and Bellum are scientists of course, but they probably are at ease with bio and psychology, which creates a better potential for their encounter. That said, I'm also not too hot about slash in Darkwing Duck, just because it's a Disney cartoon. They're usually pretty conservative, and as I said in another topic, just having a father-daughter relationship in this story was a step (compared to the more uncle-nephew relationships in Ducktales) whose difficulty is easily noticed when one realizes that it's not even really developed that much in the series (for example, Gosalyn's adoption is not even mentioned in any episode past the pilot). But of course, fanfics like to develop potential themes that are left out in the series (such as the father-daughter relationship), so I guess some authors could take it further and look into slash if they want. It looks pretty hard though. I remember a story on fanfiction.net that sort of hinted at a DW/Launchpad thing. I don't remember it that well, but I think it showed them fighting a bit, and someone (Binkie, I think) suggested they go out to dinner and patch things up. And then the dinner was really sweet and the two had a very intimate discussion. I think it was meant to be a bit humorous, but I'm not sure whether it intentionally hinted at a romance. It could have just been a story about friendship. Does anyone remember that story, and if so how did you feel about it? | #13 Mar 09th 2007, 10:13am

Heide DeVriesbrideofbasil, sorry for freaking you out about my suggestion. I only suggested Bellum mainly because of age. I have a hard time liking such pairings that the character's aren't around the same age (or atleast look the same age). As in I can't get into anyone with Gosalyn unless its a character around her age, like Honker. Darkwing Duck has very little female characters in the main cast, compared to other fandoms I've encountered. Does it not? As for Darkwing/Launchpad, when I was a kid I had no thoughts about the fact that they lived together with an adopted daughter. The thought never occurred to me until I was older (and jaded by Japanese cartoons) that it was probably a little off of Disney to do such a thing. The point came up in a conversation I had with a friend of mine who's overprotective/conservative parents didn't allow her to watch Darkwing Duck. I thought it was strange they wouldn't until she said it had something to do Launchpad and Darkwing living together. But maybe Disney's way of making up for that was with the introduction of Morgana McCawber. As for LP/DWD as a couple, they would be sweet simply put. But it brings up questions in my mind, "What about NegaDuck and HIS Launchpad?" - that pairing both makes me wonder and makes me a bit ill. Heide DeVriesBy the way, alesi257, I know about a LP/Darkwing story being on fanfiction.net but I have found one on the internet somewhere else. It might be the same one, because double-posting is something that happens often to good stories (or in some cases not-so-good-stories).| #16 Mar 10th 2007, 2:05pm

LuvvyDuckThat's okay. :) I might have given the impression that I didn't like Sara (Bellum) at all,but she's really one of my favorite characters. But if truth be told, I'm just not into the slash 'scene'. And like you, I'm not all that crazy about May/December pairings. I never actually pictured Sara with anyone per se (maybe a brief 'thing' with Darkwing in the right circumstances?), though lately I've considered a crossover thing with Ducktales where she might be paired with Gyro Gearloose. (But that's something for a another topic thread. ~_^) In my story about Sara (which desperately needs updating---spoiler alert, btw), she SORTA dates a guy when she's in high school, but he turns out to be a real jerk. She decides she doesn't want anybody in her life, but when Darkwing comes along much later, she has a little crush on him but sublimates that in all the stuff she builds for him. Otherwise, I saw her as being 'married' to her work. | #17 Mar 10th 2007, 5:37pm

alesi257About the Negaduck/NegaLaunchpad pairing -- I think it's a really long shot. It's not because they're not alike: the little we've seen of NegaLaunchpad is that he's an evil brute. Negaduck is an evil mastermind. So, they are a bit alike, and one might imagine a pairing with Negaduck being the dominant partner. However, I still think it would incredibly difficult, but rather because I don't think it's really possible to make Negaduck love and care about someone. The only fanfics that have succeeded at doing that (imo) did it very implicitly -- I'm thinking for example of "A Father's Love" where Negaduck feels compassion *in spite of himself* and he hated it. But those fanfics are very serious -- a Negaduck/Negalaunchpad fanfic would probably be a lighter thing, in which it would be very hard to make Negaduck's compassion emerge (not that he really has any in the first place). As for the DW/Launchpad pairing -- I'm really not too convinced either. I liked the fanfic where they have dinner together, but I did feel it as a funny fic of friendship rather than a hint at romance. The thing is I *could* imagine someone trying some slash by having some characters notice the more androgynous or feminine representations of Darkwing -- his slender figure, his purple clothes, a certain grace to his way of fighting his enemies (uses kung-fu), etc. There's potential there, but as I said earlier, because Darkwing was a Disney cartoon, slash in general is *really* a departure from it. I don't speak for everyone of course, but personally one of the reasons I read DW fanfics is to find similarities with the cartoon I watched as a kid, and I would probably enjoy a story with a homosexual relationship in an original fic or a fanfic from another more serious series. Heide, I found the DW/LP fanfic on fanfiction.net, it's called "But They're Not" by Master Fedora. It's a short fic, just one chapter. Is the one you read the same? I read it again, it was funny and sweet, they say to each other "I like you," "I appreciate you," and they hug and stuff. It didn't really sound like romance to me, but maybe it did to others. All readers have different ways of interpreting literature, anyway. I wonder what the author had in mind, too. alesi257 | #18 Mar 11th 2007, 7:16am

LordNegaduckIt's funny Heide when you said that your friend's parents wouldn't let your friend watch Darkwing Duck simply because Launchpad and Darkwing lived in the same household. My cousin asked me if I could make some copies of my Darkwing Duck tapes, so that his 8 year old son liked Darkwing and loved the colors of Darkwing and Negaduck and liked all the "Quack Fu" fighting. When I next saw my cousin, I asked him how the tapes came out, and he said "My wife wouldn't let my son see them because Darkwing Duck is a loner, appears to be afraid of women, and therefore a homosexual." I told him that the most ridiculous answer I have ever heard. Just because someone is a loner and very shy around women doesn't make them a homosexual. Yes, Darkwing did begin life as a loner because of his early childhood experiences and became a loner later in life, until he met Launchpad and Gosalyn. So what that Darkwing isn't like Negaduck just grabbing women at will like he did in Valentine Ghoul. Does that make Negaduck a "real man (duck)." We do see in many episodes that whenever Darkwing is near a woman, he does indeed get nervous and jittery, but that's just his personality. Again, maybe he lets the woman make the first move because maybe in his early childhood he got rejected or laughed at many times, so to avoid that fear of rejection he lets her make the first move. Nothing wrong with that. The series did not come out and say the Darkwing and Launchpad actually live together, which again brings another point up, if two guys live together, are they automatically homosexual? Maybe two guys live together because they can't afford to live on their own at first, or to share living expenses. With the job Darkwing and Launchpad had, it would make sense for them to live together because really they were always on call, and you never know when The Fearsome Five or Negaduck might strike!! Actually, it can be implied that they live together at 537 Avian Way, but in reality, we never saw Launchpad's room. We saw Gosalyn's and Drake's, but never Launchpad's. For all we know, Launchpad could have taken over Darkwing's quarters at the tower. But one thing is for sure, both Heide's friend's parents and my cousin's wife most certainly deprived their children of seeing one of the very best cartoon series that Disney ever came out with. For they would see that it's ok to make mistakes and that as long as you have friends to help you along the way, everything will turn out. If the child was made fun of in life or is a loner, they would see that they are not alone in there experiences, for Darkwing as a child started off being the butt of the school kids jokes, and even later in life as Darkwing Duck, he still didn't get the respect that he deserved (with the exception of Launchpad, Gosalyn, and J. Gander, for those that really knew Darkwing admired and respected him--reminds me of the song by The Who, "Can You See The Real Me?") They would also see the struggles of being a single father and the unquestionable love Darkwing has for his daughter. There is no disputing that, and although Darkwing makes many mistakes with Gosalyn (example Steerminator-not telling her the truth about being in danger and just sending her to her room); he makes those mistakes purely out of love. Any decision made out of love is never really a bad decision. That being said, yes the series did leave holes big enough to drive a Mack Truck through them, and it is up to the author of the fanfiction to fill them in. So, if an author wants to write a romance story between Darkwing and Launchpad, go right ahead. As long as the author warns the potential reader that the story is going to contain such a pairing, there shall never be a problem, because the author is being considerate of those who would not read such a story. All romance stories can be done in good taste without dragging the characters into the gutter. So, go ahead and be creative! | #19 Mar 11th 2007, 9:43am

alesi257I agree with you darkwing, although I do want to say I feel truly saddened that the homophobia still rampant around us is enough to have some parents keep their kids from watching Darkwing Duck.Although I disagree that any decision made out of love is never really a bad decision. Love entails good things, but also potentially entails jealousy, blindness, sometimes hatred.. But anyway, I'm getting off-topic. | #20 Mar 11th 2007, 10:15am

Heide DeVriesDarkwing, good news about my friend however, is that since she's turned older and made her own desisions she's watched the entire series of Darkwing and loved it. But I told her that it was regretable that she didn't watch it as a kid because that is what made it so endearing to me--watching it as a kid and having my imagination run wild with darkwing's adventures and making up my own villains for him to defeat (etc). Darkwing indeed does seem to be nervous around women but as you said it is most likely because he's had a time dealing with them in the past. Besides many guys I've met are shy, and that in itself is part of their "charm" so to speak. And as for the way NegaDuck treated Morgana... lets just say I'd do as she tried to do and punch him/zap him because the way I've been raised is to believe that NegaDuck's actions were wrong. Negs may think he's "God's gift to women (she-ducks)" but what he did to Morg in "Valentine's Ghoul" was the Disney form of harassment. Your point about LP and Darkwing perhaps not living together is very true. I can't recall a single time that it was shown that LP slept in the mallard house, perhaps he was just an early raiser and late leaver (like some of my parents friend's are). Darkwing Duck had some very good morals, and it was what set it apart from the rest of the Disney cartoons. Alesi257, I can't quite remember but I don't think that was the story I read a long time ago, but that one was quite good. It was short but it was quite fluffy. That fic in particular kind of displays what can happen perhaps if someone gets the wrong impression, like Binkie on Drake and Launchpad (Maybe). I had to favorite that as soon as I read it, thanks for linking me up to it. :) I'll continue looking for that one I read before, maybe its not on fanfiction.net after all. My thing with NLP/ND is that Negs could love, but be unable to recognize the fact that he does, or hate the fact that he does like as you mentioned. Negs' denial of love could be a defence mechanism, who knows maybe he's as rejected as Darkwing and just takes an angered outlook on love instead of being nervous. I'm one of those people that believes that everyone loves, even if its so warped that its not what people usually call "Love" (if that makes sense). I suppose that it's the old: You always hurt the ones you love, type of logic for me. BrideofBasil, I don't know much about Ducktales but I think that pairing would be cute to see. (I really need to buy/rent Ducktales so I can read more crossover fics about them, no?) | #21 Mar 12th 2007, 5:57pm

AdenostarI try to avoid DWD slash if I can. Slash in general I love, especially M/M slash. I'm a yaoi fangirl. But when it comes to things that played a huge part in my childhood and possibly shaping me into the person I am now, I'll pass on the slash, thanks.I guess it really depends on how its written though. If its subtle and could lean toward just friendship, then I'm ok with it. I personally have a hard time seeing any of the characters in slash pairings. My mind simply refuses to process it. M/M slash seems to be the most popular, and there are a lot more male characters than female in the DWD verse. What is up with that anyway? But when I was a kid I had crushes on quite a few characters from that show, and since then my mind has set up its own rule that any character I've ever liked is automatically heterosexual to me. I wouldn't say I'm completely against the idea of slash, to each their own and all that. Its just very difficult for me to wrap my head around. Trying to picture any of it gives me the mental equivalent of a 404 error. Mental imagery can not be found. But whatever. Like I said, to each their own. If other people like it and want to write it, who am I to judge? I just don't really care for it myself. | #22 Mar 12th 2007, 7:08pm

MaskedKittenI've never written any slash myself, but I've read a few well written stories with certain slash pairings that I enjoyed. To explain I like the idea of DW/LP, it's adorable. The fic, however, is mostly a friendship fic, however WAFFy in nature. In my head I've continued it and made it into a romance but I'm not sure if it would ruin the simple story I've got. LordNegaduckI just read and reviewed your Darkwing Duck and Launchpad story, and I must say that it is not only cute but a very accurate detail of Darkwing Duck's relationship with Launchpad. Darkwing may have thought that Launchpad wasn't as smart as he was, but deep down Darkwing knew that Launchpad was much more intelligent then he gave him credit for. Launchpad is a very sensitive, open person that always shows his feelings with others; he lets them know how he feels. Darkwing, on the other hand, hides his feelings, and sometimes will not express them or doesn't know or isn't capable of expressing his true feelings with others. Darkwing will sometimes put Lauchpad down, but most of the times he does apologize. And of course, Darkwing does get angry and short tempered a lot, but that is just his nature, and that is one thing Launchpad knew going in.One thing Launchpad has to admit, he gets a lot more respect from Darkwing then he did from Scrooge McDuck who really thought of Launchpad as an incompetent dolt. Scrooge really means to put Launchpad down, it was intentional! Darkwing only seemed to put Launchpad down by accident, more of a slip of the tounge, then he felt bad for saying it. As far as the perception of this story, it depends on the frame of mind of the person who is reading it. I personally took it as two friends who are clearing the air, sort of speak. Afterall, if they want to remain friends and be able to work together, they have to set things right with each other and talk things out. This story and how different people can perceive it reminds me of a scan shot from a Darkwing Duck book written for children. http://www.mystiesplace.com/pages/darkwing/media/images/misc/dwimage006.jpg Now, check out this picture of Darkwing Duck who is walking side by side with Lauchpad, holding his arm from the book A Darkest Night. I have never read the book, but I am very sure that the author had no intentions of a romance between Darkwing and Launchpad. But, of course, taken out of context, the picture could be construed as Darkwing and Launchpad having a wee more than a working relationship. | #25 May 07th 2007, 7:04pm

CommanderHa ha... Darkwing Duck slash. To be honest, I'm not a huge slash fan--not that I have anything against it, it's just that it's not something I normally go looking for. But most of the DWD pairings I have an interest in ARE slash--IE Darkwing/Negaduck or Darkwing/Launchpad (gotta read that fic you were talking about above), Liquidator/Bushroot, Megavolt/Quackerjack, etc. That could be just because there are so few female characters in the show, though. :)I like my pairings based on personality compatibility, and it honestly doesn't matter to me if the characters are both male, both female, or one of each. I tend to gravitate towards het, but there are slash and femslash pairings I like too. :D And in other words, hi, 'tis my first posting in a DWD forum. XD | #28 Sep 02nd 2007, 9:03pm
