Screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus said in April 2011, that they have been writing a sequel for Marvel Studios.In a June 2011, interview the duo stated, "The story will likely be in the present day. We're experimenting with flashback elements for more period World War II stuff. I can't say much more than that but we made it baggy enough to refer to more stories in the past"

What do you expect from the sequel?

I am very much hoping to see at least a few scenes with Carter. I loved her as a character, I loved their chemistry in the first movie, and though I know this is one of those Not Meant To Be romances I do hope that it takes Steve more than 15 minutes to move on.

I get that it seems to cheapen the romance between Steve and Peggy if he 'gets over it' quickly...but I don't want to see a whole movie's worth of Steve Rogers being all sad-eyed and mopey. I think pretty early on, the next Cap film needs to introduce Sharon Carter, and set up the second love interest for Steve...otherwise, it will just be a drag on the mood. Steve and Peggy CAN'T be together anymore, so it's better if Steve can move on.

Oh...and please, please, PLEASE, don't use the old comic book thing where they make Sharon Carter (Agent 13, of SHIELD) the niece of Peggy Carter...'cause that was gross; it always felt like some creepy, pedophile vibe. Just make the same last name thing be a coincidence...or at least make Sharon be a distant cousin.
