![]() Here! As promised, a section for people to help you out with your Writers Block! And I mean the real stuff, not the contest entries. So do you have a problem with your stories? Are you stuck? Need someone's help? Well, then, feel free to ask for help! We're right here! Hopefully, we'll be able to help you! 10/25/2011 #1 |
![]() Hm... this isn't exactly writer's block, but it's a problem. You see, I get extremely bored with every story I write- I get maybe five chapters into it, if even, and then I get bored. Some people like it, though, and I feel bad for not updating! Sometimes, though, I just don't like to finish things... What can I do? 10/31/2011 #2 |
![]() I have the same problem as you Panther, but I know why it happens to me- the longer I take to write a story the harder it gets to keep writing. I think it's because I think the story out so much in my head that I feel like it's finished so it becomes boring to try and put it down into words. So, my advice is this: 1) Even if you don't post your chapters right away, try to get them written as quickly as possible. If you end up with a stockpile of chapters so be it, and then if you hit writer's block it won't slow down your updating so you won't feel so guilty. Also, things are always more interesting when they're new, so the longer it takes to finish a story the less interesting it can be to write. 2) Don't over-think when you're writing because it makes it harder and the going slower so you're more likely to get bored. 3) Make sure that you love the idea you're writing about. If you don't love it you'll get bored and wonder why you bothered to start in the first place. 4) If it really gets to the point where you just can't keep writing and reach the ending you originally planned, write out one more chapter to wrap the story up where you are. Then you won't leave all your readers hanging, and if you ever want to, you could go back and finish it the way you originally planned to. I hope this helps. 11/01/2011 . Edited 11/01/2011 #3 |
![]() Wow! That's actually really good advice! Much better than I could've given her! You sound smart! (LOL, now that just makes ME sound dumb!) Hmmm... I don't think ive seen you here before... Are you new? If so, then... Well... Hi! I'm Naty17! *bows* Oh, and thanks again, panther-chan, for visiting mah forum!!! 11/02/2011 #4 |
![]() Haha, I'm not that smart. I just have a lot of experience when it comes to writing and editing. New? Not exactly. I've been around fanfiction.net for almost 5 years now- just not with this account. Due to several reasons, I abandoned my old account to make this one a few months back. Anyways, it's nice to meet you Naty17, and I hope you don't mind if I roam around your forum now and again. 11/02/2011 . Edited 11/02/2011 #5 |
![]() Yeah, I comprendo! Same here, kinda. When I first started, I couldn't tell the difference between horror and drama when I read a story (I'm still kinda dim now, but I'm getting there!), but now, I can easily pin out what needs to be changed when someone presents me a story. Let's just say, writing is my life now! 0.o 5... years?! ... Holy shiznut, you've got me beat! Aw... I kinda liked being one o' the oldest members... Why'd you make a new account? Who were you before? Did I know you? Probably not, since you didn't seem to reconize me either, but... that's pretty cool that you've been on for that long! Well, actually, you can just call me Naty if you'd like. Do you have a specific name you'd like to be called? Or do I just call you Everlude-kun? Oh, feel free to roamaround! This forum needs as many visitors as it can get! 11/02/2011 #6 |
![]() You're still pretty old, just not as old as me. ;) Anywho... I made a new account for several reasons: 1) I took quite a long break from writing and just read fanfiction, so when I finally started writing again my style had changed so drastically that I felt like I couldn't post stories under my old name because they weren't the type of stories people were used to from me. Plus, I'd moved on to different fandoms. 2) I had lots of people PMing my old account and bugging me for multiple reasons. 3) Mainly, I really just wanted a fresh start. If I could, I'd delete my old account, but fanfiction doesn't have a delete feature. (they should add one) Who I was doesn't really matter, and no you didn't know me. As for what to call me, I usually go by Everlude or Ever for short. 11/02/2011 #7 |
![]() Hahaha, I never felt so happy to be called old, LOL! Oooooooh, I get it! Sometimes, I think about doing the same thing, but... I know that I wouldn't be able to. I do have alot of PMs I STILL need to answer (#$%@!) but I know that it's okay. Besides, even if it DOES take me an ETERNITY to update, people still read and like it, and I still enjoy doing so! Yeah, they probably should... Cool! So what fandoms did you write for before, Ever-kun? Why do I use honorifics: Just in case you were wondering, and because I like explaining it (weird...), I'm trying to call everyone by Japanese honorifics because I'm writing a story for Vocaloid, which takes place in Japan, which is a place where they use these honorifics. So to get used to the story addressing people in this manner, I'm calling other members on Fanfiction by their honorifics. Hopefully you don't mind...? 11/03/2011 #8 |
![]() Yeah well, I wrapped up all my stories, and didn't bother responding to the PMs because they were becoming really rude. Let's see, my old fandoms included: One Piece, Harry Potter, Pokemon, Gundam Wing, and a few others that are older and less popular. I don't care if you add -kun to my name, so go right ahead. :) 11/03/2011 #9 |
![]() Floridapanther: Okay, well my advice here is that you should plot out stories right away. Have a introduction, rising actions, conclusion, and a conclusion. If you're just writing this at the top of your head, with a general idea, but not a complete idea, you're going to get bored because you don't know what's going to happen. Like Everlude says, have it a topic that interests you. If you're bored, nothing is going to happen. Boredom leads into laziness and so on - at least, for me it is. I wouldn't necessarily agree with the putting off a story point though - some people are generally just busy, but will come back to Fanfiction whenever they have the time. That happened to be with one of my stories, and a came up for a plot for it. Now I totally know what I'm going to do, and I'm pretty into it. 11/03/2011 #10 |
![]() Like Everlude says, have it a topic that interests you. If you're bored, nothing is going to happen. Boredom leads into laziness and so on - at least, for me it is. That's the problem, Loli-chan (*Like the nickname? ;) ). I ALWAYS think that every idea I have will be one that I want to write. However, I have this really AWESOME plot for a new story... but the problem is, I felt that way about my OneShot Requests... and you know the last time I updated was when pterodactyls were still alive... -_- I can't tell fun ideas from boring ones. Thanks for the advice, though, Loli-chan! And you too, Ever-chan! :) Haha, Naty...~ 11/03/2011 #11 |
![]() Loli-chan? Jeez, you guys are so weird... That's a compliment. Unless you don't want it to be. Hahahaha! You don't have to write about anything. Wait, you're the one turning fourteen this Saturday, right? Uggh, so many birthdays to remember... Well, anyways, why don't you try writing a list of everything you want to write about? I do webs and charts when I want to write about something, but I don't want to immediately start. Like the other day, in math class, I was watching the leaves fall. I made a list of verbs, adjectives, and colours. Then I wrote them all down. I'm probably not going to do anything with it too soon. Maybe like if I get an idea - at the top of my head, I'm thinking this - like maybe a man (OC) captures...say, Eliza from IoH one fall night. He takes her to maybe Forget-Me-Not-Valley, and she the first thing she sees is the autumn leaves. She's wandering around, trying to find her way back home, and running in all these leaves, until maybe Muffy finds her. So you see, little things like that can be effectively used in your writing. 11/03/2011 #12 |
![]() This isn't really writers block but I suck at writing endings. I've been writing for like 4-5 years now and I finally finished my first story....wow I fail. I actually hate how I wrote the ending and would love to rewrite it but I'm still a total noob at it. Got any tips or suggestions? ; A ; Thankss :) 11/03/2011 #13 |
![]() Yello peoples! Floopy here! and to answer your questions pepsipiggy if you post like a small portion of the ending here, then I could maybe help you on it. but anyways if you don't want to post it then here are some tips anyways: 1. If you're planning on making a sequel come up with a good cliffhanger, that always leaves people almost literally hanging on to the edge of the seats. 2. Don't do that "and they lived happily ever after" crap. That just makes it sound like its a fairy tale (unless it is a fairy tale). ... -.- and that's all i got... I'll post again if I come up with anymore tips! :D :3 11/04/2011 . Edited 11/04/2011 #14 |
![]() Hey! I came up with the Lolli-chan thing! That's MY nickname for Lollipopdiego!!!! Waaaaah... Oh, and thanks for the compliment, Lolli-chan! I am VERY weird! 11/04/2011 #15 |
![]() I STILL feel awkward... *gasp* YOU HAVE THE SUIT??? Lawl, I'm jealous! Ehe... Oh, I kinda have an annoyed problem. Actually, I think everyone does. You see, does anyone know why I get more reviews on my pranking thing, and less on my very first Fanfiction? Is it the requests, or... Oh and does anyone have the review promise revolution thingamagig in their profile so I could copy and paste it? I wanna join in! :D 11/04/2011 #16 |
![]() Sorry Loli-chan... and Naty-chan... -_- I 'pologize... ._. Haha! Dude, you got a SUIT! :O :D You see, does anyone know why I get more reviews on my pranking thing, and less on my very first Fanfiction? Is it the requests, or... Some people just like things with request lines since they like to have something written in their honor. Any request line on this site gets a lot of reviews, while really good writing doesn't. Just look at Iseki's group of canon ToT/AP romantic oneshots. It was basically the best thing I have ever read in my life, and yet I was one of only two people that reviewed... ._. Also, everyone, thanks for all of the advice! :) 11/04/2011 #17 |
![]() @Pepsipiggy When it comes to ending a story, it all depends on where you want to go with it. If you want it to end and be done this is what I suggest: The final chapter needs to wrap up any loose threads, but still keep the story moving until the very last punctuation mark. However, you don't want to have some crazy action thing and then a quick wrap up or the ending will feel rushed. At the same time, don't drag it out and make it boring as readers will loose interest in how the story ends. There's a fine balance as to how to make it work. Also, the way you want to leave the readers feeling should also have an effect on how you decide to wrap things up- is it a fairytail ending for everybody or are only one or two people happy? Maybe nobody is very happy when the story ends, but they've just accepted life as how it is. If you'd like to make a sequel I suggest this: There needs to be some loose end that makes readers want to know what's going to happen, some feeling of dissatisfaction because they haven't yet reached the end. If you make it too dramatic though and don't wrap things up a little bit, then it will feel like the book was never finished and the sequel won't feel like a sequel. The easiest stragtegy is to wrap up the old problem/conflict, but have a new problem/conflict shoe up because the old one was resolved. The most important thing I consider either way though when I write, is the feelings the last chapter conveys. I could write the most descriptive and vivid ending ever, but if it isn't getting the right feelings across then the story won't ever feel right as I "close the back cover" on it. @Hershey The most likely reasons I can think of for why your prank fic is receiving so many reviews is this: It's full of short, disconnected stories that are light and easy to read, but still somewhat entertaining. Plus, with fics like that most people don't feel obligated to continue following or reviewing it like they would if it was a normal story which appeals to lots of readers. Another thing is that many reviewers consider it easier to review those type of fics. At least, that's what I've found from my experience. I hope my advice helps both of you out. 11/04/2011 #18 |
![]() Thanks, guy(s)! (too lazy to go check...) 11/04/2011 #19 |
![]() Thanks for the help :) I'll be sure to use the help. I'll probably rewrite the ending later. Currently on a bus for a football game. Go marching band:) 11/04/2011 #20 |
![]() For an ending, I highly recommend three things: 1. End the story with a strong memory. 2. End the story with a strong feeling. 3. End the story with a wish or desire. And it has to be a satisfactory conclusion. Like Pepsipiggy, your story was about Will and Chelsea, right? I haven't read the ending yet, but I'd say the ending would have to be like relevant to the past events. Don't come up with something completely new and out of the ordinary that no one really expects - unless, you can portray that in such a way that in flows. YOU, the author, also has to be satisfied with it. If you're not satisfied, you're not finished. 11/04/2011 #21 |
![]() Thanks for you advice :) I just rewrote my last chapter. I am so much happier with the ending than it was before. I hope it's better than before though. Thanks again :) 11/10/2011 #22 |
![]() I'll check it out for you if you like. But no problem! :) 11/12/2011 #23 |
![]() Does it make me eligible to post here if I have way too many ideas to write for? Seriously. THEY'RE EATING MY BRAIN. 11/20/2011 #24 |
![]() maybe you could try putting some ideas together. but i usually think of too many story ideas, which is why i have so many uncompleted stories ( and cuz im lazy) I just post them up. i was supposed to update a chapter once but this idea was dwelling in my mind for a whole week so just wrote it out and published it. lol i have like two others stories i didn't publish yet but im too lazy to go back to them XD 11/20/2011 #25 |
![]() That's the problem. Like, I have this story called the Grand Hot Air Balloon race which I thought I had completely done in my head, but just got writer's block after a while. So I work on different stories when I really should be updating my old ones. XD 11/20/2011 #26 |
![]() when i have writers block i usually look back at my writing and think "what was i thinking" or just listen to some inspiring music...like vocaloid. :D and i just started this last night. i write down a vague outline of whats gonna happen in the next chapter. it actually helps alot for me. 11/20/2011 #27 |
![]() VOCALOID! *high five* Ironically, I was thinking of writing a story for Butterfly on Your Right Shoulder (Rin's version). *smacks self* BAD OTAKU. UPDATE YOUR OTHER STORIES FIRST! Well, I'll be sure to try out that method. I actually have some of the events for that story written down already. 11/20/2011 #28 |
![]() *high fiveesss lmao* Why don't you try making it a one shot or something. lol dontt hit urselff lmao. use a pillow :D good luck X3 11/20/2011 #29 |
![]() Yeah. I've been writing more oneshots these days (mostly for Hetalia, which you do not know of -.-) Okay! *grabs lacy pink pillow and hits self* thankies! 11/20/2011 #30 |
