This story explains why Caje wears a wedding ring and also a pinky ring. The pinky ring belonged to his wife, who died giving birth to their daughter. The baby die's 1 week later. Long enough for Caje to have bonded with his daughter. This also helps explain Caje's deep attachment to the orphaned children of France.
