Preferable to explaining why Sherlock was still wearing his pyjamas at 3pm, or why the butter dish was on the living room floor and the butter somewhere unmentionable. And infinitely preferable to telling yet another idiot that lipreading meant reading lips not back's of heads and that Deaf meant Deaf not stupid.

When Irene Adler contacts Mycroft Holmes with some shocking information and instructs him not to share it with Sherlock, he believes it to be a calculated power play against him. In some ways he's right, but the truth is more complicated, and personal. Could be considered an AU sequel to Neither A Soldier Nor A Gentleman, but it's not necessary to have read that.

This is a one-off, short piece that takes place when Sherlock is a kid; inspired by a post on my dash, describing how awful it is for Donovan and Anderson to mock Sherlock's experiments, because they were barging in on his private property and poking fun at him. Which led me to think about Sherlock's childhood, since D and A weren't the first bullies Sherlock had encountered.
