The next chapter of 'Debts' - to be updated in the next few days Excerpt from Chapter 3 - Memories Vico stared at her in silence, appraising, for a long time before he spoke. “I can’t see you living a long, happy life as a Dhorn trophy wife.” Oh, her life would have hardly been long. Benthur would have killed her eventually, after the claim passed to him by marriage. Just not before he made sure he had a whelp by her to smooth over squabbles about succession rights before he’d arrange an accident for her, or a sudden wasting disease. The corners of her mouth quirked upwards – not that she’d had any intention of letting it come to that. The sudden sound of laughter made Riana look up, to see Vico hitting his open palm against his thigh, his head thrown back. Between barks of laughter he asked, “Tell me, how much were you looking forward to gutting your husband on your wedding night?” The corners of his eyes crinkled from the wide grin he wore. It figured he would guess what she was thinking.
