First snowstorm of the season and it is almost 2013. We do have four seasons here in Vermont, but they are: Mud Season, Blackfly Season, Foliage Season, and Ski Season, but weather is never guaranteed.
I feel compelled to add comments RE my Monkees fic. Even though it's focused on the "real world" of the making of the series, it's wildly AU regarding the history of the series, time lines, etc. I use the collection of real people, real (and fake) events and situations, and just assemble the parts as I please. In my "Monkee world" there is plenty of artistic conflict, but no impending cancellation. There is a Nesmith divorce, but it's placed at the very beginning of the show. You get the picture.
A note RE reviews. While I welcome constructive criticism focused on flaws in my writing (spelling and usage, character consistency within the stories, continuity, etc) I do and will delete criticism based purely on personal conjecture of how characters may have behaved in real life, how they spoke, etc. or comments that are driven by inaccurate observations re usage and structure. I will certainly delete and/or report direct insults.
I say this because I recently deleted a non-member review that referred to a "nonstop stream of obscenity" throughout character dialogue plus various claims of who did and did not actually use those words in real life and/or how many times, and that only girls "in biker bars" used such language at all in the 60's. In this case, the first and last claims are inaccurate; the other claims are conjecture. Whatever your opinion of vulgar language, the same colorful words have arguably been in use in similar context in private conversation for well over a century. Other attacks on style (rather than substance) were included, and the "review" closed with an undisguised insult. I left this non-member review up for a very brief while but in the end decided it was not helpful or constructive either to writers or readers so I deleted it.
I want to know if you have some serious criticism, focused on the story as it is. Please don't attack me based on personal taste or assumptions, or what you would prefer the story to be about, or based on valid choices of style that you don't care for. Those kinds of complaints indicate only that you'd more likely enjoy reading other stories by other writers instead. None of the stories posted on FFN will appeal to absolutely everyone, and they are not required to. If you feel compelled to insult someone for that reason you should not be reading on this site.
