~~ CYNICISM IS THE SPICE OF LIFE. SO GET YOUR CHIPS READY, 'CUZ HERE COMES THE SALSA. ~~

9/10/08 - I have (had) the distinct pleasure of being able to beta for these two wonderful stories: Erik's Prisoner (now completed) and Les Shatteréd by dreamysherry and TheTerrierQueen, respectively. Please do the authors a favor and check them out! Both are magnificent.

1/23/08 - RIP Kristina. You will be forever missed.

6/22/07 - Check out my new C2 The Worst of the Worst Phantom of the Opera Fanfiction to have a good laugh at people who really shouldn't be taking themselves so seriously.

Welcome, friends! You have reached my ever-expanding, slightly-random profile.

I suppose you'd like to know a little something about me...

I'm 18, a community college/uni second year who is extremely apprehensive about what the future holds, and an aspiring author. Music is my life; I just wish I could perform it a little better. Obviously, I also write; mostly FanFiction, but I do have a FictionPress account as well, so feel free to check it out!

I am utterly, completely, soul-consumingly in love with everything having to do with The Phantom of the Opera. I also adore musicals of all kinds...Except HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL (and all subsequent crappy sequels), which I don't even CONSIDER to be a musical in the first place and I think can go die an excruciatingly painful death, for the following reason:

(yes, this is part of the actual script)

Chad: Look, you're a hoops dude. Not a musical singer person. Have you ever seen Michael Crawford on a cereal box?
Troy Bolton: Who's Michael Crawford?
Chad: Exactly my point. He was the "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway. Now my mom, she's seen that musical 27 times and she put Michael Crawford's picture in our refrigerator. Not on it. IN it. So my point is, if you play basketball, you'll end up on the cereal box. If you sing in musicals, you'll end up in my mom's refrigerator.

-sobs in a corner, shaking fist at the abomination Disney Channel movies have become-

Anyway, as a result of my wonderful obsession, most of the fics on here are Phantom of the Opera based, though there are some random stuff, too.

Philosophies on...

- WRITING: Writing is a way to express ideas in one of the most wonderful mediums known to man: words. Words are rich and full of depth, color, texture, sight, sound, touch, taste...and any other sensation imaginable. Therefore, writing should be treated with the utmost respect, by both the author and reader. Not only should the quality of the work be high, but also the feedback of the reader/reviewer should be helpful or beneficial in some way to the author. And as I don't really enjoy being a hypocrite, I constantly strive to do this in both my writing and reviews... unless you just plain suck, and have an attitude about it, too. Bleh.

- FANFICTION: Possibly one of the best things to ever happen to me. I love it. Personally, I enjoy writing fanfiction much better than regular fiction, because the characters and all of the fundamentals are already established, so the challenge lies in thinking up a creative and original set of circumstances for the characters to endure. Plus it's just so much fun...

- PHANTOM OF THE OPERA: One of my favorite love stories. I love the book, the musical, and the 2004 movie (not to mention other versions, my favorites being the Lon Chaney silent film and 1987 animated film), so you will see elements from these three in my writing, though I will inevitably weave some aspects of the Kay novel as well as the Forsyth novel into my work as well.

- Phantom (by Susan Kay): Eloquence fails me. An excellent, excellent, excellent novel, the author of which I forgive for deviating from several of Leroux's details once Christine comes into the picture in the worthy pursuit of making the work her own. Both well-written and excellently-researched, a great read.

- The Phantom of Manhattan (by Frederick Forsyth): Initially, I really enjoyed it. Now that I've thought about it for awhile, I like it less and less. I think the saving grace is the little off-shoot that explains Madame Giry a little better, only because I love her.

- Erik: Unlike many other self-proclaimed phangirls you will encounter on this site, I like my Eriks dark. Very dark. However, I am of the personal belief that no one is past redemption, so that is a common theme in much of my fiction (especially the romance ones). My Leroux Eriks will be as enigmatic and unpredictable as possible; mood swings, fits of tenderness, fits of anger, fits of insanity, fits of innocence, you name it. My ALW Eriks will follow the 2004 movie strain, as I've only seen the stage production once and don't quite know all the twists and turns that differ from the movie just yet. As such, he will be dark, obsessed, rough, seductive, and sexy as hell. And he'll probably do the cape-swishing thing. -infatuated and very hormonal teenage sigh- You will see my Eriks go off with all sorts of people (Christine, Madame Giry, Other Women, or even Raoul, but for comic purposes only), but mostly Meg, because I adore writing it.

...In regards to the more intimate side of Erik: he is, no matter what he or others might believe, a man. As such, he will think about (and most likely engage in) sex. And, even though he might be virginal in only the most physical of aspects, instinct will always take over, whether he would like it to or not. So none of this "Erik wouldn't know what to do with a woman if she gave herself to him" stuff... I'll try to keep any and all sexuality in my stories as real and down-to-earth as possible, which could prove to be a little difficult as I'm not quite... learned, let's say, in that area...

- Christine: Innocent, yet not. My idea of Christine is that she is not as entirely innocent as she leads people to believe. I'm torn as to whether or not she knows what she is getting herself into, however...it depends on the plot of the fic and which aspect I'd like to bring out in her more: girlish victim of circumstance, or willing partner in a dangerous game. Christine will most likely stick to her choice and stay with Raoul, but plenty of angst shall be involved, because it is so much fun to write, and I enjoy torturing her; however, there will always be the cute Erik/Christine ficlet or oneshot, because I am a hopeless romantic at heart and cannot resist writing those at some time or another.

Recently, I've also started writing tentative Christine/Meg. Don't ask me why, I have no idea, it just came to me one day. But, since I've started, they don't seem to want to let me go, so expect the occasional oneshot. I don't see a full-blown story any time in the future, but we'll see.

- Raoul: My opinon of the esteemed Vicomte constantly fluctuates. One day I hate his guts, the next I adore him...it just depends on my mood. Though Raoul-bashing is fun to read from time-to-time, I don't really write very much of it, as I take (most of) my writing seriously. He is a character with much psychological depth behind the "man of fashion", and I admire him for his bravery and devotion to Christine.

- Meg: Devoted to her art, her friends, and her family. Meg will always go with Erik, since anything else just isn't feasible (unless she's with Christine, haha). I will mostly write 2004 movie Meg (as well as Christine) because, to me, they have more character depth. However, whatever Leroux-based things I write will always be in character, not just for Meg, but for anyone.

- Madame Giry: Possibly one of the best characters ever created. I am, of course, alluding to the ALW version of her, as in the book she is nothing but an annoying yet extremely clever half-wit...but I digress. I enjoy getting inside this woman's head almost as much as getting inside Erik's. And ninety-nine point nine percent of the time, she will have a thing for Erik. (So what if her daughter does, too? It just makes sense.)

- The Persian (aka Nadir Khan): The coolest guy ever. I was really upset that he failed to show up in both the musical and movie (we're talking about ALW again...), but if he did, then I wouldn't like Mme. Giry so much, so whatever. I haven't written anything with him in it yet, but I have a feeling... anyway, those of you reading "Devotion": be on the lookout for him. He'll show up, I promise.

- REVIEWS: Like everyone else on this site, I'm a shameless review whore. So please, please, PLEASE review me! I live for reviews, and it's wonderful to know that you took the time to read and review my work.

- FLAMES: If you feel the need to flame me, go right ahead. As I've already stated, I try and keep my standard of writing as high as possible for me, so I take it as a good sign that I've only received one so far. However, if you feel that strongly opposed to a story, idea, principle, turn of phrase, whatever, go ahead and spout off. I appreciate the effort and expended energy on my part, as well as the laughs I will undoubtedly have. It takes a lot to hurt my feelings, so have fun. Just keep the profanity to a minimum, please.

So yeah, that's me. Feel free to private message me and drop me a line at any time. I won't bite, I promise.

warm regards,
dark-hearted rose
