Shalom! I am HaChosenOne, otherwise known as HCO. You are about to enter my profile. Beware… (Imperial March plays)

Proud member of the Bored Authors Society: Don’t eat the strawberry cake.

VARIOUS THOUGHTS AND RANDOM TRIVIA

One of my favorite words is “feck.” I swear too much, I know, but think about it: it’s not as vulgar as its similar-sounding counterpart, and it’s so much fun to say.

Google is so pedestrian. Use goodsearch--for every search, a cent is donated to the charity of your choice. Think of how many times you search something a day, and all that it will add up to... Thank you to omg.it's.wickedjelly for linking me to the site.

The Dream Cast, or: Say This on YouTube and Get Flamed

Favorite Elphaba: Julia Murney, closely followed by Stephanie J. Block

Favorite G(a)linda: Kristin Chenoweth, closely followed by Annaleigh Ashford

Favorite Fiyero: Sebastian Arcelus is tied with Norbert Leo Butz. Although if Neil Patrick Harris should ever play the role, as I want him to, he would most likely be my favorite (can’t you just imagine him doing “Dancing Through Life”?)

Favorite Fiyeraba: Julia Murney/Sebastian Arcelus (the best...)

I always deviate from the norm, so it is no wonder that I have a deviantART account where I post some rather mediocre stuff.

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF HCO (like you care)

First off, I am paranoid when it comes to people knowing who I really am. If you are indeed a real-life friend of mine come to track me down, don’t tell me that you’ve succeeded. hides in closet

That out of the way, I shall get down to business.

Me: I am Elphaba. Truly. I never meant to, but I look like her, think like her, act like her, have the same hobbies and causes and even somewhat similar future plans and family. I differ only in religious beliefs (I am Jewish. Quite. And a firm believer in G-d) and my romantic life (none. sigh). I only wish I could play her, which brings me to my…

Interests/Likes/Idiosyncrasies:I am a compulsive reader; that is to say, I read clothing labels and cell phone keypads if there is nothing else available. Second to reading, tied with writing, is music. I love nearly all music, primarily showtunes, opera, country, and classical. Eclectic, I know. I can play piano rather horribly, but I still want to play every instrument there is. My singing varies from day-to-day: I have alternately been told that I’m amazing and that I should just shut up; I suppose this means the end of my unrealistic dream to play Elphaba—did I mention that I’m a wannabe actress?—yes, I quote various plays, particularly Shakespeare’s, and various musicals, at random moments and am horrible overdramatic. And yes, sometimes I break into music or dance too, although I am ridiculously uncoordinated; I try Irish dance and it looks like a tic, or I turn to ballet and seem like I’m in pain. Writing is another occupation of mine and is talked of more at length below. Humor is very dear to me, as is evident in my writing. It has also gotten me into trouble at times, as have my obsessions with Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Wicked. I findmyself to be a poster girl for ADHD: I have actually broken off in mid-sentence to say, “Ooh, look, a robin!” and so on, and non-sequitors are my specialty (it all connects, really—in my mind, at least). The semicolon is, in my opinion, G-d’s gift to punctuation. Another very dear love is...

Animals: With the lowercase ‘a’, that is. I love them, all of them. It is therefore my plan to be a vet and have a houseful of animals (unfortunately, my mother is against anything with fur, feathers, etc). I should say that my favorites are dogs, horses, and lions. I also love raptors. And dinosaurs. You get the idea. Speaking of pets, I also have many…

Pet Peeves: I am a grammar/spelling freak. This translates, amongst other things, to GET YOUR FECKING APOSTROPHES RIGHT! I also loathe unwarranted hate (racism; anti-Semitism; homophobia; etc.); those people that find you interesting and accost you at bad times to grill you about your life and so on; irritating parents and teachers; bad literature. Ah, yes. Meyer and Paolini in particular have scarred my mind. I wish…

Great Wishes: Peace; enough money to pay for school, travel as I wish, move to Israel, and buy all the books, music, and films that I want while still being able to support myself and my pets and attend plays and musicals whenever I feel the urge; to find my cell phone (if it is not lost now, it will be again soon); to be finished with all...

School: I love to learn, really, and I find school wonderful in theory if not practical application. I want to study absolutely everything; I don't like to study if I have to...so yeah. I love math, but it hates me (I seriously cannot do anything except basic arithmetic without a calculator). Biology and literature, my other two Dearly Beloved Subjects, are kinder. Speaking of dearly beloveds, some of you would probably like to knowabout...

Romance: Why, you voyeurs! Eh. Romantic life=dead. I simply have a desperate longing for an entirely unavailable person. Maybe that's one reason why I write so much implausible romance.

MY WRITING

Why I write:

"The soul of a person loves to feel. It yearns not only for feelings of happiness but even for melancholy and tearful feelings. A person will listen to horror stories and watch violent horrifying scenes which actually bring him to tears, just so he will be able to feel. Emotion is the food of the soul; it is as much of a need of the soul as food is to the body." --Rabbi Kalman Klonymous Shapira (who goes on to say that "a person who fulfills this need with emotional prayer and study is nourishing the soul correctly. Prayer and study without emotion will leave a vacuum that will force the soul to search for emotion anywhere, even in sinful behavior.")

Writing is both a favorite activity and a lifeline. I certainly plan to write a novel someday…once I think of a good idea. As to fanfic, Wicked in both forms is my chief writing fandom at the moment, although I do dabble in others and have gone through extreme phases of Star Wars and The Phantom of the Opera, as you can see below. I focus on humor—nary a story or chapter of mine does not have at least one drop of snark—and romance, with swirls of angsty tragedy. In regards to updates, I either go through phases of super-writing or long periods of writer’s block.

I must also mention my titles: I'm terrible at them; even worse than with summaries. If you can't understand a title, don't worry--I probably don't either.

And then, of course, we come to the supreme part of fanfiction…shipping.

HCO’S FLEET OF FAVORITE SHIPS (in no particular order except the first)

OTP: Elphaba/Fiyero: Wicked canon and perfectly lovely, with characters that provide for very enjoyable writing

Anakin/Padmé Star Wars canon. See comments for Elphaba/Fiyero and Peter/Jason.

Peter/Jasonbare canon and so sweet. Tragically beautiful.

Glinda/Elphaba Wicked novel subtext; I generally focus on Glinda’s attraction when I write Gelphie.

Erik/Christine The Phantom of the Opera. Whether it is canon depends on which element of the fandom you are focusing on. I generally prefer Susan Kay. But canon or not, I just feel that Erik deserves a chance.

I ship others, but not so deeply. And I choose not to ship Harry Potter at all--too dangerous. EVERYBODY ships like Maguire there, and Maguire-style shipping means making dice with character names instead of little dots, putting them into a Boggle container, and shaking it all up.

Bon voyage!

QUOTES

Unfortunately, I’m too much of a quote freak to have a section devoted to them. I used to list the stupid things people at school said, but that might have made it too easy for my stalking friends to find out who I am (did I mention that I’m paranoid?). So let it only be said that, according to some, Florida is along the Jersey Shore; Mother Theresa is from the Bible; 31 is a number between one and 26; a rock is an organism; and the planets revolve around the Earth.

This shames me and makes me want to crawl into a hole with, as one teacher said, “my head between my legs.”

PSA

Jonathan Pollard has now been imprisoned for 24 years. Call the White House at 202-456-1111 or 202-456-1414 and ask the President to grant pardon to Pollard.

It was about a year ago, on April 3, 2008, that three Israeli boys were traveling to a holy gravesite. In the airport, they met a man appearing to be a religious Jew, who offered to pay their ways if they transported a small package for him, and being young and naive, they agreed. To make a long story short, it turned out to be drugs that they were carrying. Japan, where they were caught, has zero tolerance for this, and now the boys are in solitary confinement in an atrocious Japanese prison, sitting with their heads down and their hands tied behind them and forbidden to speak. They get a little bread, water, and some vegetables every day, a haircut every two weeks, and can see a visitor through a glass window very, very seldom. Each has seen his parents exactly once, due to the expense of travelling.

The government is working on trying to have them released, particularly the one who is only fifteen. It's not going very well, and the legal fees are huge (I remember not the address for sending donations).

I hate what the world has come to. That is my rant. Anyway, kindly pray for:

Yoel Zev ben Mirel Reesa Chava

Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel

Yosef ben Ita Rivka

Thank you.

MEMORIALS (or, why life really sucks sometimes)

IN MEMORY OF THE MUMBAI CHABAD VICTIMS

“How else can you explain why they're here and not here to stay?
I believe there must be, must be
Borrowed angels, here in this life
They come along, into this world, and make this world bright
But they can't stay forever, cause there heaven sent
And sometimes heaven needs them back again.”

-Kristin Chenoweth

One of the buildings targeted in the recent attacks in Mumbai was the Mumbai Chabad house. When Indian authorities liberated the hostages, six had been killed, including the Rabbi, Gavriel Holtzberg, and his wife Rivka.

The Holtzbergs’ firstborn son, Menachem Mendel, died at the age of three from Tay-Sachs disease several years ago; their second son, Dov Ber, was born with the same ailment and was institutionalized in a facility in Israel under the care of his grandparents at the time of the attack. He died at the age of 4 one month after his parents' murder. Their third son, Moshe, was born healthy and lived with them in Mumbai. He was rescued by his nanny, Sandra Samuel, and is now living in Israel with relatives. It was revealed by her father during her funeral that Rivka was five months pregnant with her fourth child at the time she was murdered.

This is in memory of:

Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, a”h - 29

Rebbetzin Rivka Holtzberg, a”h – 28

BenTzion Kruman, a”h - 26

Rabbi Leibish Teitelbaum, a”h - 37

Yoheved Orpaz, a”h - 62

Norma Shvarzblat Rabinovich, a”h -50

HaMakom y’nachem eschem b’soch sh’ar aveilei Tzion v’YerushalayimMay G-d comfort you among the rest of the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem."

Please, please let this be the last time I need to make a memorial. If you would give nearly anything to have peace, copy this into your profile. THIS IS IN MEMORY OF THE MUMBAI CHABAD VICTIMS.

IN MEMORY OF THE STUDENTS OF YESHIVAS MERKAZ HARAV

"Will I wake tomorrow from this nightmare?" -RENT

On March 6, 2008, an Arab terrorist entered Yeshivas Merkaz Harav in Jerusalem. He opened fire, and, for no crime except being Jewish, eight students were slaughtered and eleven wounded as they studied Torah.

That night, there was celebrating in Arab-occupied Gaza.

So I ask you to take some time to think on this. Think of what has been lost so far, and pray to G-D that we will have peace.

But despite all this pain, we remain united; we remain strong! And in that merit, may we have peace. Amen.

Am Yisrael CHAI!

This is in memory of:

Doron Mehereta z"l - Age 26

Yonadav Haim Hirschfeld z"l - Age 19

Ro'i Rote z"l - Age 18

Yochai Lipshitz z"l - Age 18

Avraham David Moses z"l - Age 16

Yonatan Yitzchak Eldar z"l - Age 16

Neriah Cohen z"l - Age 15
