A Few Pleasantries:

Greetings and salutations to those who are now reading my profile.

I'm going to apologize in advance for the insane length; if you want to skip to the stories, feel free to hit the 'end' key now.

My pen name, as you’ve no doubt noticed, is Secret-Agent-Omega – assuming I haven’t changed it and forgotten to update my profile.

However, as ‘secret agent’ is more of a title, Omega is fine.

I’m here to read what you’ve written and post positive or constructive feedback.

I don’t flame people’s work, and I don’t appreciate others flaming mine; if you hate it that much, just walk away quietly.

A Little Background:

I’m from Earth, third planet in the Sol system. That’s as specific as I’m going to be regarding my origins for now, and there’s no reason why any of you need to know my current location.

I’m a big fan of the action, romance, and science fiction genres. My preferred ‘universes’ are:

- ‘Alias’

- ‘Angel’ (And to a lesser extent ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’.)

- ‘Bones’

- ‘Firefly’ (And related media, especially “Serenity”, a.k.a. the ‘BDM’.)

- ‘Gilmore Girls’

- ‘Heroes’

- ‘Smallville’

- ‘Star Trek’ (Every series, but ‘DS9’ to a lesser extent; every movie except 5.)

- ‘Veronica Mars’

- ‘X-Men’ (Movies only so far, but I’m trying to branch out.)

As you've probably guessed, I write. Thus far, the only universe I’m writing fan fiction for is ‘Firefly’, but I write a lot of original material too. It’s mostly poetry and short narratives, but I have aspirations of writing some really great, full-length stories. I might even finish one of them someday, at which point I’ll be sure to let everyone know; not only because I’ll be tremendously excited, but because it’s probably a good sign that you should be making arrangements for the end of the world.

That said, I also utilize a number of other mediums as outlets for my creative energy. Some of the more interesting examples of my non-literary work can be found at my website. I update every once in a while, so if you like what you see, check back occasionally.

Personal Truths:

I believe that if you like someone’s work, you should tell them; to that end I’m working my way towards posting a review for all the works on my favorites list. However, as my favorites list currently contains over 100 works, it might take a while. Your patience is appreciated.

I believe that the most interesting conflicts in stories are the ones that originate within and between characters. The decisions we make regarding who we are, what we do with the cards we’re given, and how we relate to others are what really keep an audience’s attention.

I believe there’s a distinct difference between love and lust. That may sound cliché, but try counting the number of relationships based solely on fantastic sex that have lasted beyond a year or so. Love keeps people together as surely as it keeps a ship in the air; even if that love is given in blood, sweat, and tears.

I believe that while we may be more comfortable with those who share similarities, deep down we’re all the same. We all come into the world wet, naked, and hungry. We all bleed the same sticky red. We all have a soul. As a species we are wondrously designed, with wondrous diversity. Variety is supposed to be the spice of life, and to quote a certain shepherd, “A man can live on packaged food from here ‘til Judgment Day if he’s got enough rosemary.”

I believe that Evil exists in this world; that it always has, and always will. Without Evil, there can be no Good, as there is no light without darkness. It is an eternal struggle for balance. And to preserve this balance, we must all lend our light and stand together against the darkness.

Odds and Ends:

Highly functional design combined with highly pleasing aesthetics is my idea of perfection. I’m also a big fan of the human female form. These two facts are not unrelated.

I have a tendency to include music lyrics in my stories, because often a single song – or even a few lines – can convey an idea better than a page of dialogue.

I also have a tendency to include quotes at the beginnings of chapters, because they do wonders for setting the mood.

One of my worst personal peeves – even worse than horrendous spelling and grammar – is stories in which characters have sex without protection and miraculously don’t get pregnant. I don’t care if the explanation is conventional contraceptives, a morning-after product, sterility, genetic incompatibility, or a story-magic-powered infertility-field-generator – but please don’t ignore the issue.

Strange but true – I am fluent in the standard Kryptonian alphabet and number system glyphs, as well as some of the less complicated word/concept glyphs. I’m also not too shabby at designing my own glyphs for words/concepts and names.

Off Limits:

I don’t talk about religion, I don’t talk about politics, and I try not to talk about sex – I don’t want to discuss my opinions and I don’t want to hear yours. No offense intended.

Special Relationships:

I’m for the following relationships in the following media; the media are listed alphabetically, the relationships in order of greatest to least enthusiasm:

Firefly:

Malcolm Reynolds / Inara Serra – My definition of on-screen chemistry; dialogue optional. Their presence in the same room is enough to make the heart ache and the eyes sting with longing for what could be; for the feelings that would render them one spirit if only they were admitted. When Malcolm tells Inara to prepare for an emergency departure in the premiere episode... one look, one touch, and then the façade is raised again. The very essence of their relationship in a single scene.

Simon Tam and Kaywinnit Lee Frye – The socially inept doctor and the adorably cheerful mechanic; he fixes the crew, she fixes the ship, but they alone fix each other. To paraphrase a line in Phaedra7’s “The Art of Scars”: “It’s so sweet you might need insulin shots.”

Hoban Washburne / Zoë Washburne – Who says nice guys finish last? Not the gently playful pilot or the stoic warrior woman who married him, that’s for certain. Sure, there were spats, but what they had together was always greater than what separated them.

Jayne Cobb / River Tam – Yes, it’s somewhat disturbing from a strictly age-difference perspective. But on the other hand, Jayne can be very childish, and River hasn’t been a child for quite a while. It may require exceptionally delicate handling, but this relationship can be one of the most interesting when done properly.

Smallville:

Clark Kent / Chloe Sullivan – Chloe’s feelings were evident from the series premiere, yet Clark is still clueless 5 seasons later. And yet… the Season 5 finale. Enough said. Don’t even TRY to tell me he didn’t kiss her back.

Jonathan Kent / Martha Kent – I don’t think that I really need to say anything here, do I? Oh, wait – I do: Lionel Luthor, keep your grubby paws off Mrs. Kent or Mr. Kent’s going to return from the grave and hunt you down. I’d include the obvious joke about the shotgun, the shovel, and the large amount of acreage, but I think everyone would see that coming.

Cream of the Crop:

Everyone has favorites, and I’m no exception. When it comes to fan fiction, I’ll read just about anything within my preferred universes, and if it’s the least bit good I bookmark it. However, every once in a while I find something that raises the bar for what I think works in that universe should be; that ought to be reproduced in hardcover book format and made recommended reading. The following works have made that list:

Firefly:

“Strange Bedfellows”, “Bedlam Series”, and “Bed and Wine Series” by Kaynara – My three favorite works of ‘Firefly’ fan fiction, period. Words are simply insufficient to describe them. I have no connection with Kaynara other than the occasional IM conversation, but I’ll consider myself obscenely lucky if I end up with half the writing talent she has. Joss Whedon, if you’re reading this, I recommend that you contact this lady immediately and offer her a job.

Research and Development:

The following works are classified as ‘in-progress’. The descriptions are included so that readers of my work know what’s in store.

Firefly:

(Title Unknown) – In response to the large number of positive reviews for "Those Eyes", I'm working on a short, single-chapter work, set for certain after "Heart of Gold" and possibly after the BDM. Mal-centric POV regarding his beliefs and feelings for Inara. Just as much angst as its companion piece (Yes, the pun is intentional, hardy har... oh, never mind...) and no happy ending. Will be rated T for references to violence and probably adult themes.

(Title Unknown) – A medium-length, possibly multi-chapter work, set after the BDM. Old enemies return, and Mal does some soul-searching as he and the crew of Serenity race to save one of their own. Angst with a happy but open ending. Will be rated M to MA for violence, disturbing images, and explicit adult themes.

“Icons” (Working Title) – A medium-to-long, multi-chapter work, set after the BDM. While on a planet renowned as an ‘artist’s paradise’, River paints a portrait for each crew member, some of which reveal more than others. Drama and possible angst, ending unknown. Will be rated K+ to T for minor adult themes.
