About me: 21 year old female who, like many others, has developed a fascination with Pirates of the Caribbean, and more especially with that J/E kissing scene in DMC. Though, to be honest, I actually find Geoffrey Rush to be sexier than Johnny Depp. Yes, really. I tend to go more for character than looks, though I have come to the conclusion of late that Johnny is a genuinely brilliant actor. I am currently working on my first fanfiction, which I hope to be posting very soon. I've seen other stories on this site with similar plot lines, but I do hope that I will at least be able to put my own original spin on the story. A few notes on themes that will come up in my story: I have a lot of difficulty suspending my disbelief. Throughout the movies several things kept occurring to me. First off, that a girl as frail and skinny as Keira Knightly is wouldn't last a month at sea. I mean, the conditions were abysmal on ships at the time-- stale food, contaminated water, no way to properly clean oneself (they certainly didn't waste fresh water on bathing, it was too precious), no toilets...yuck! And if they were to run out of provisions, she doesn't even have enough meat on her bones to make decent long pork! In other words, she's not really female sailor material. And to return to the theme of personal hygiene: I love Jack Sparrow, really I do; but I've long thought that the only romantic fantasy I'm capable of having about him would have to involve dunking him in an extra-potent vat of Ridd (as in delouser). I mean really! Much as I loved the scenes between Jack and Elizabeth in DMC, somewhere in the back of my mind the idea kept running that he had only recently shared a coffin with a very decayed corpse, and that I doubted he had visited ye old Laundromat since. The neat freak in me was performing Gibb's black spot ritual and dashing headlong for the shower! What I guess I'm trying to say is that I actually mention these things in my story, and that I hope it doesn't ruin the fantasy aspect of the tale. I guess we'll see... Historical note: Long Pork is a sailors term for human flesh, which on occasion sailors resorted to eating when they ran short of provisions on a long voyage. The term is used in DMC when Will is searching for Jack. The black fisherman Will questions says that there is an island where he trades spice for delicious long pork. It should have been a warning to Will that there would be cannibals there! | |||||
