Hi and thanks for having enough curiousity to find out who I am.
Since I'm REALLY bad at this whole "Bio in 100 words or less" deal, let me just say that I'm not young, but not old. I have a job and use fanfiction as both escapism and a creative outlet for ideas that I really don't get to explore "on the job".
Favorite Reads
Right now I'm reading primarily Evangelion, but also dabble in Tenchi, Robotech/Macross, and now Bleach. My current favorites in Eva are "Different Beginnings" and the similar "Old Friends, New Enemies". If you asked me why, I'm not sure I could tell you other than I just find them entertaining. So, that also leads into what don't I read. I tend to shy away from the horror, angst, and heavy duty drama. I get enough angst and drama at work and come here to escape it :-P I also tend to shy away from the stories that pop out things that I just have a hard time wrapping my head around - katana wielding Eva without enough backstory justification or radical shifts in character behavior, again, without enough backstory - mostly because I can't handle the "cognitive dissonance" between my internal image of the characters and what I'm reading without enough lead in to help me transition to what the author is trying to portray. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying this is "bad". It's just not for me because of the reasons I read fanfiction in the first place. To tie this back to my current favorite reads, both stories did a good job bringing me into a world where characters have enough familiar traits to cushion the changes and providing plausible reasons for the differences.
About My (only) Story
I like the idea of taking familiar characters and moving them into situations for growth and seeing what happens. Because of that, I fall afoul of the Canon-istas. While this doesn't necessarily concern me, it does limit my audience.
Since I used to be a band geek, I like the idea of using the band as a vehicle to push the characters into situations. Plus, it gives me a convenient plot device to put in the equivalent of a soundtrack. I also really like movies, so it allows me to try and integrate some of those devices also. For example, I "cut" back and forth between what would be simultaneous scenes to encompass more than one reaction and point of view to an event. It doesn't always work, but I remain defiantly unapologetic until suitably whacked : )
The Music
I listen to a wide variety of music including trance, pop, classical, rap, hard rock, and, recently, country (my wife adores country music, so to maintain household peace, I bite my tongue and listen). So, the music references and quotes will probably be all over the map and there really isn't any rhyme or reason to a particular drama other than the music's message.
