Author has written 11 stories for Babylon 5, Les Miserables, and Glee. All right. All right. Don't say a word. I know. In all seriousness, I will try to get a new update written soon. When I'm not inundated with work/assignments/and-or readings. On REST IN PEACE: Loves, I'm stuck. My original plotline for this story got unhinged. Any suggestions and/or help would be greatly appreciated. On Buttercup Five: My dear dear people... I'm sorry... but in all honesty? As the writers of this story have been kind of growing up during this period, I doubt whether we have any chance of finishing it. I moved out of home, my elder brother got married... my younger brothers are no longer in the same town as me... so I don't know. Really consider this on indefinite hiatus now. On Javert: Upon reading AmZ' views on Javert, I made a thorough and complete perusal of all the sections of Les Mis in which Javert features. I tried to sort out where the schizophrenia was most obvious, and seperated Javert into two obviously seperate people: Poignant!Javert and True!Javert. It is true. Hugo's description of Javert doesn't coincide with what Javert does and says. I can only suppose that Hugo got wrapped up in trying to make a point with his descriptions. He wanted the audience to know who was right and who was wrong. He wanted them to recognise his moral juxtaposition of how two men can handle the gift of mercy in two disparate ways. He wanted a scapegoat to carry his distrust of complete servitude of Law and Justice, and of the Justice System of the time. So he hit on Javert. He beat the reader over the head with a big stick. See? He's a big meanie really! See? He's just got one thing on his mind! He's simple and rigid! He's completely wrapped up in propriety and regulations! However, something came along and scuppered Hugo's clever plot device: his own extraordinary skill in characterization. Javert simply refused to be kept in his little box. So much of what he did in books three and four is in complete oposition with the stolid simple policeman Hugo outlined in book two. (Actually, I found the Poignant!Javert character to be strongest earlier in the book. He developed quite nicely on his own after that). He's obviously extraordinarily competent and intelligent, he's got a dramatic streak a mile wide, and a really wry sense of humour (Would you like to use my hat?). And yet, thanks to Valjean and Hugo, many people insist upon not only seeing him as a dull, obsessed fanatic; but also make him into the villain of the story. I hate this. But, to be honest, it's probably why I like the character of Javert so much. I always was a sucker for any character who was misunderstood by the majority. (Even if just the majority inside their stories) UPDATES: Les Mis:. Rest In Peace: Chapter Three. The Inspector is uncomfortable, and Fantine enjoys herself. (I'm actually writing about Fantine! Apart from Eponine or Cosette, she's probably one of the characters I have the most trouble writing.) Buttercup 5: | |||||||
