Author has written 19 stories for Will of the Empress, Jane and the Dragon, Circle of Magic, Monsters Inc., Lucky Number Slevin, Host, Queen's Thief series, Immortals, Tamora Pierce, Trickster series, and Harry Potter. I am a twenty-one year old Canadian woman, in my third year of university. I, KrisEleven, do solemnly swear to review all the fics I read. I have joined the review revolution, post this in your profile and join the revolution! Part of the above review revolution means that if I read a fic I do not enjoy I am still going to write an honest review of it. I do not hit the back button, no matter how much I want to. I will not write a dishonest (but so much easier) review telling them that their story needs work, but "It's still great". I do have some dos and don'ts of my conduct on this site and I will post them here: 1. I will always review honestly but I understand tact. I do not review to intentionally insult a story or author. 2. If it is posted on this site it has been posted for other people to read and they have been given the right, by the site's administrators, to review in any manner they choose. Even if you post 'go lightly' I will review in my normal manner, in whatever way the story deserves. 3. I'm not going to block you after I review- feel free to PM me. However, I will not put up with trolling or stupidity. If you cannot take the review in a mature manner I will block your account. Hi, everyone! I have helped create a competition called The Ficship Competitions. It’s going to be judging all Tamora Pierce fanfiction with Tortall verse fanfiction judged in the Knighthood of Ficship Competition, and Emelan verse in the Circle of Ficship Competition. All complete Tamora Pierce stories are eligible for nominations. Visit www.fanfiction.net/forum/The_Ficship_Competitions/54838/ This is the forum where the competition is taking place. There you can find the competition’s layout and rules, as well as view the stories already nominated. The Summer 2009 Ficship Competitions have finished! There was an amzing turn-out of voters this year, and the finalist stories were very entertaining, and of really high quality. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated and special congrats to the authors of the top stories! The final rankings are now posted in the Top Five sections, and in the Archives. The next competition session will begin December 1st, so stay tuned! There has been a community made for the finalists of all the Ficship Competitions, to make browsing easier. Check it out from Sweet Sassy Sarah's profile. The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner now has its own category! I was going to keep the forum and delete the C2, as it was no longer needed but apparently we cannot delete communities. Hmm. I'll keep it until the admins answer my email either with instructions for my dumb ass or with creating a delete option. Or until I decide to change it to another interest. I'll still manage the forum. Even though I'm mostly alone there. sad sigh Visit the forum: http://www.fanfiction.net/forum/The_Land_of_Attolia/52071 My favorite authors are Tamora Pierce, JK Rowling, Brian Jacques, Megan Whalen Turner, Catherine Webb, Stephenie Meyer, and Charles de Lint. I've just read: The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan. Incredible. I am thoroughly hooked on this series, am becomming more and more depressed as I approach the end (the author died before the last book) and am cursing my brother for giving these to me right in the middle of midterms. I like to watch TV for the same reason I like books- I get trapped by the stories. Right now I like Firefly, Dexter, Castle, Bones, Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Lie to Me, Dollhouse, and How I Met Your Mother. I've just watched: Criminal Minds. Creeepy. My favorite movies are Serenity, Pitch Black/Chronicles of Riddick, Batman Begins/The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean/Dead Man's Chest/At World's End, Lucky Number Sleven, Superman Returns, XMen/XMen Origins, Hancock, and The Boondock Saints. I've just seen: Drag Me to Hell. One of my students claims this was supposed to be funny. I cannot believe that hours of my life were thrown away on this utter bullshit. Kris's Rant: Twilight. Although I am well aware that a lot of people on here who consider themselves well-read, intellectual, mature or any degree of nerdy absolutely detest the books, I am going to admit that they are among my favourites. Why? Because they are entertaining, they are cute and they don't make out to prove that the author has twenty six Phds and that you are a moron if you cannot bear to read the book three times in order to understand all of the hidden illusions. They are, however, quite poorly written. There are character and plot flaws throughout the series that make me cringe when I read them over and the writing is not the most fluid or descriptive or talented I've seen. But compared to some recent bestsellers (Eragon, Blue Bloods and Maximum Ride come to mind), they are practically masterpieces. Twilight, though, should under no circumstances be someone's only favourite or (heaven forbid) the only thing they've read. Why? Because although they are entertaining, there is stuff out there equally as fun to read, with actual thought, great messages and characters that are lovable and believable. Books that actually have merit. Want a cute love story? Try out Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, or even Meyer's other novel The Host (which I think has way better messages about relationships). Vampires? Try Vampires, edited by Jane Yolen, Vampire High by Douglass Rees, The Last Vampire by Christopher Pike (the first book, at least... Afterward it gets weird), or Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice. Magic and a strong heroine? Anything at all written by Tamora Pierce, The Blue Girl by Charles de Lint, Tithe by Holly Black, The Moorchild by Eloise McGraw, or Sabriel by Garth Nix. These are just ones that I enjoyed and thought of off the top of my head, so go experiment... If you don't like a book, its not the end of the world. Just start a new one. And who knows... You might find a new favourite if you just try some new stuff out.
