I've been writing fanfiction for a couple years now, but before that I wrote a lot of poetry. My biggest fanfic so far is "Dragon Ball: Chaotic Future," which has erupted into a sort of universe of its own with the additions of several side stories, a one shot, and the still-in-progress sequel, "Dragon Ball: Chaotic Universe."

"Chaotic Future" is a story that takes place in Future Trunks' timeline, but rather than miraculously resurrect all of the long-dead Z fighters, I decided to introduce some new ones, as well as some new races, themes, etc.

The biggest complaint that I get about "Chaotic Future" is usually: "Where's Trunks? You mentioned him in your summary, but he's nowhere to be found!" It's true, Trunks doesn't appear until about 10 chapters in, but so what? I apologize to all you Trunks fanboy/fangirls out there but guess what: I'm sure the Earth isn't the only planet in the universe having problems!!

If you start to read "Chaotic Future," don't stop just because Trunks isn't the main focus, please keep reading!

Trunks fans will be happy to hear that the entire first story arc ("Guardians Saga") of "Chaotic Universe" revolves almost entirely around Trunks. Think of it as my way of saying "thanks" for sticking with "Chaotic Future"!

I've also been working on a "Highlander" story called "Dark Genesis" on and off for the past few months, but so far it's taken a back seat to my "Chaotic Future" projects.

My overall thoughts about fanfiction (and this site in particular) are fairly positive.

Its nice to see so many people interested in writing, though not ALL of the fanfiction out there deserves a second glance. Also, I'm not very fond of the "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" style of reviewing that seems to be all too common. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to give someone a good review just so that they'll do the same for me, that's ridiculous!

The way I look at it is this: you should tackle fanfiction the same way you would any other form of writing; with skill, respect for the content and characters, and (most of all) intelligence. You wouldn't write a novel or original story that was constant drabble, so why a fanfic?

So those of you who are doing a superb job (and you all know who you are) keep it up. Those of you who, quite simply put, aren't... stop or go back to the drawing board.
